ive been waiting for this
ive been waiting for this
Note for the person giving the news:
I've not modified reboot.bin of the firmware. i've modified msreboot.bin OF DEVHOOK. Please correct the news to avoid confussion.
lol, kinda contradictory
msreboot.bin is NOT the same as reboot.bin; it's part of Devhook, while reboot.bin is part of the firmware.
is booster still working on devhook???
the reboot.bin and the msreboot are totally different and dark alex does not provide a 2.71 dump so his loader is 100% legal!
BTW concerning the ps2nfo issue, their shennanigans have been known for ages (modifying readme's, credits and even hex editing). they did it to me and chossy's work in the past and they're doing it again with dark alex. their site is a joke, please don't go there
Dark_alex is to PSP as NEO was to the Matrix.
This news is soooo wron.... "That version allowed people to flash a part of the firmware dump to the flash to speed up the loading of Devhooked firmware."
Nope, it's not about that but about emulating 2.71 on 2.71 (think ISOs....) without actually installing the 2.71 files on MS... Devhook will read it straight from the flash
i wonder where he is, i am pretty sure he has devhook emu 2.8 but he will not release it, maybe or maybe not.
well is it possible to upgrade to 2.00 then downgrade back to 1.50 for good?
nocomment
okay guys this is slightly off topic but something you should think about if you've ever downgraded or downdated a PSP,
we've all heard many reports that if you downdated from 2.x with a 1.5 FW that the install may not be "clean" and that you should update to 2.0 and then back to 1.5 for a cleaner install.
we've also heard reports from many others that they've experienced no issues and that 1.5 FW will ignore any extra files in the flash therefore, there is no such thing as a "dirty" 1.5 install via the downdater (either the 2.5/2.6 or 2.71)
Let me be the one of the first to tell you that there is a significant difference when it comes to a "clean" (up to 2.0 back to 1.5 via eboot) install versus a downdated install.
I'm not 100% sure about this particular flash install but I'm gonna assume it uses the same principle as BOOSTER's latest DEVHOOK release which allowed you to install the flash0 font files and flash1 user files from your memstick to the NAND to speed up devhook performance.
I can verify that if you downdated from either 2.5/2.6 or 2.71, the devhook font installation procedure will give you flash write errors and will cause Devhook to crash as soon as it is launched, but it wont brick your PSP I've tested this on 2 downdated PSPs (one downdated from 2.6, and another downdated form 2.71)
now to be fair, I didn't use this current flash installer posted today, but rather the flash install that BOOSTER enable in his last devhook 0.46 release in June.
now here the clincher, BOTH PSPs gave me flash write errors when installing the font files (although flash1 and kd files wrote fine) and I was able to remove all flash installations to return DEVHOOK to normal functionality, BUT!!!! When I updated both PSPs to 2.0 and then dowgarde to 1.5, ther Devhook flash installation worked with no errors.
Naturally, this particular flash install is for FW 2.71 so whether or not your PSP has a "clean install" is irrelevant, but this just reminded me that, yes there is such a thing a "clean FW" regardless of what Freeplay may claim, but as far as a "dirty FW", I never noticed any errors other than that the Devhook flash installer refused to run on a downdated PSP. and it worked perfectly on the same PSP downgraded from 2.0 with the Sony 1.5 updater eboot.
Again, this has nothing to do with flashing part of devhook on the flash, but to emulate 2.71 *off* the flash!
Please QJ, update this news post for crying out loud :(
Dark_Alex has done a great job with this and most users will just dump it because of the wrong and misleading description :-/
what Dark_AleX said""Note: i've hacked msreboot.bin in this version to have support of direct flash in 2.71.
However you cannot have direct flash 2.71 and 2.71 emulation at the same time (the emulation
of the rest of firmwares is not affected by this)."
what qj.net said "Now if you read it carefully, it says that he has modified the reboot.bin file. If you guys remember correctly, this was the reason why Booster's release site was taken down a few months ago. For that same reason, we can't host the file here"
Booster got shut down for the "reboot.bin" _NOT_ "msreboot.bin" this file can be homemade just so you all know.
So this just accesses the 2.71 flash instead of reading files from the memory stick. So it doesn't write to flash, it just makes it take up less space on the memory stick and maybe work a little faster. Sorry if I come off as noobish.
Sorry. Normally I get this quick but this time I'm lost. What does this do or mean?
i believe #13 yeah it worked on clean fw 1.5 be4 but now with dark alex it still dont work with mod fw1.5 hmmm
does this work on this piece of ***** 082
Hi, Dark_Alex
I have used your devhook launcher and find it very useful with my PSP. but I faced one problem whenever I emulate to fw 2.71 to play iso games, i could not return back to fw 1.50 emulation. i also cant launch devhook 0.45 when i am in fw 2.71. is there a way that you can create a program that i can resume back to fw 1.50 emulation instead of the original fw 2.71?
I just took the leap of faith and upgraded my 2.60 TA-082 to FW2.71 just to try this out, theres nothing to lose, Ookm is working on a 2.71 downgrader for TA-082, and the TIFF eloader loads most of the good homebrew and that works on 2.71, so I did it. It works, first try on everything, the henb2 wrote the files correctly, devhook loaded up correctly, 1.50 booted up correctly and no bricking occured, and I know how a devhooked 1.50 psp. Its pretty cool, running homebrew from the XMB, but only 1 thing sucks, is that there is no wallpaper support and some other features are missing, but oh well. If you have a TA-082, I can confirm it works, well on mine anyways (mines a original 2.50 TA-082 to be exact.)
Installed it and tested it on my orig 2.6 TA-082 psp, all worked first try as the fellow before said, so it does indeed work, so all the ta - 082 pspers, just update... i mean just follow the instructions and you will be fine, and u can join all 1.5 homebrewers :P
writing unecessarily to flash isn't my cup of tea but its nice to see progress in this :D
i think i'm right in assuming that u have to run the tiff exploit to load this off the xmb, would it be possible to edit the firmware and flash it permenantly using the same method as downgrading, so you can just start it up from cold and it works just like a 1.5
if so i would happily upgrade....
lol @ pspupdates for being too scared of sony to upload the files directly :P
"lol @ pspupdates for being too scared of sony to upload the files directly :P"
They're avoiding a lawsuit, moron.
Can anyone confirm that this does not write to flash, but instead reads from the flash to speed up the process? (As 'meh' has said twice).
I had a 2.5 psp and had to upgrade to 2.6 to play the umd's I got (got the whole package relatively cheap). I thought hacking 2.6 would be the next step but 2.71 is getting all the love at the mo'. I don't really care, I'll jus update and join the 1.5 crowd (albeit emulated and not 'pure' lol)
Respect to Dark Alex and all the other psp hackers!!:-p
One other thing, there's been a few comments to suggest this, but no real confirmation. For us 2.71 psp-users, does it mean that we're emulating a 1.5 psp emulating 2.71 running an iso (if we indeed decide to run an iso, which is illeagel of course...who cares??) I dunno how that sound to you, but surely there's gotta be some lag if your emulating whilst emulating something else?!?!?
I am not a n00b, but this si so f_ucking unclear its unreal. Coupled by the fact the lots of people have given their "theorys" on what it might do. So now I am totally confused.

One other program that I find having a 'dirty' fw has a negative effect is running RunUMD. If you have a dirty fw, it will hang on the loading screen after your press circle. Now, for the most part, RunUMD is obsolete... however, with people who have broken/defective UMD drives, RunUMD is useful for loading ISO's that require firmware up to 2.6.
Whoever did the original post was a *****ing retard.
Okay, I have an .iso already, and im originally on 2.71, plus I have Homebrew Enabler for 2.71 Original Revision B already on. I also have the Devhook on my psp.
I run Devhook Launcher for 2.71.. and now im basically lost. I usually quickly understand what to do, but what do, do I do if I want the iso to work and such.. Can somebody just explain what to do? and what I might need..? I have the iso in it's own folder under /GAMES.
