Devhook in legal problems!

With all the success of Devhook, I guess it was getting too uncomfortable for Sony on their comfy chairs. It seems that pspsoftware.ddo.jp, the actual release site of Devhook has received a Cease and Desist Order from Sony with regards to distributing Devhook.

Now my Japanese isn't something to write home about, so I'll leave it to 0okm, who has got the translation covered. Here's the translated text:

"Reboot_1.50.bin is the copyrighted material by SONY, that is mixed with DevHook0.43fix.
Warning from SCE to those who up-load DevHook0.43fix comes.
Moreover, please annul it at once when downloaded 0.43fix is preserved at hand, and it uses it.
Not seeing this knows and there is a possibility to use, too.
Please inform me of this when there is an owner in surroundings.
Moreover, the main body of DevHook and the relation file of all versions were deleted from this site.
As a result, opening DevHook on this site to the public is completely stopped."

Now you don't need to have a Masters Degree in English to make sense of that. Sony has taken action on PSPSoftware.ddo.jp for distributing Devhook and have also requested them to notify someone at Sony when the uploader (Booster) is online.

One thing's for sure, Booster will need to find a new place to host his awesome homebrew. But seeing this happen, I wouldn't be surprised if SCE/Sony start going after sites who are hosting Devhook. Well, let's just wait and see how everything pans out. A small suggestion by me would be to download the latest versions of Devhook as soon as possible, just in case everyone is forced to remove them off their sites.

Oh, and someone Dugg this article some ten-odd hours ago... Click here to keep it up!

Going after homebrew... Arent we like under 5% of all PSP owners? Just because we beat them...

If they stop DevHook, I won't be able buy new games, so they lose profit just like before DevHook.

This makes me quite mad.

It was expected anyways ,im surprised it took that long

 » Booster didn't post it

Correct the News, for one BOOSTER's Devhook was not asked to be removed, it was the reboot.bin, second, BOOSTER never posted the reboot.bin file that was the file to question.

 » Chill out, guys

All he has to do is delete the reboot.bin files from the download. Sony isn't complaining about DevHook itself, just the copyrighted files distributed with it.

Quit bugging us.

We are simply cracked out kids hwo have nothing else to do than to play around with our beloved PSP.

You're the ones making millions. Booster is one of the only programmers to have actually create an alternative to homebrew vs new firmware requirements that lets us play with our new UMD's

I do admit that we can load iso's... but its not the only reason why we use DevHook. I use it to play my owned games, and to play with C++ on my free time.

And plus, we only represent like 5% of the PSP population. And by the way... ISO loaders have been around for a long time.

PSPUpdates would never post homebrews that has only negative impacts to the community.

No, It's not just deleting reboot.bin. You should really educate yourself before spouting out your ignorance.

 » hmmmm

but Booster only needs to delete the file that sony's reffering to right? or at least that was what i understood.... the devhook its not illegal

 » $ony' fight against windmills

if they stop devhook, there will come another prg, sony stop it, and another one came out. sony will always be a step behind !!

   by Me (Unregistered) - 2006-08-02
 » Yes quite

#36 - Yes, I am right. You might want to actually read the translation at the top. It's fairly poor, but you can understand that Sony's only reason for sending the C&D was reboot_1.50.bin. There is nothing else wrong with DevHook. It is perfectly legal to reverse engineer software. Unless Booster's been doing some dirty work behind the scenes, he can distribute his own code as much as he wants.

You all say "***** YOU and lets boycott Sony", but I don't hear any of you saying that you're going to sell your PSP's??!??

If you hate Sony sooo much, why did you get a psp in the first place?

Oh yeah to play ISO's.

You bought a psp because you LOVE Sony PS2, am I not right? So quit it.
I knew this was inevitable, Hosting firmwares, ISO's and the lot is real illegal and Sony is going to show people that they mean business. It's been the matter of their talk for some months now. You just gotta read the right sites to find out. Go dig through the corporate sites of Sony and you will see too.

Stop being a bunch of complaining, hypocritical, ignorant bastards.....It's getting old.

sony has to stop *****ing and deal with it, make better security and games

   by anonymous (Unregistered) - 2006-08-02
 » yea

#41 you're totally right.

People should stop complaining about Sony taking action against downloaders. Really... them losing a lot of profit means no new games for u little kids to download. Go cry to some real developers...maybe help out the scene a bit and donate? You think just because ur 12 and immature with no money to pay for games you can download them. WRONG.

DEVHOOK IS NOT GOING TO DIE BECAUSE OF THIS! STOP ACTING LIKE ITS GONE ALREADY!

» GAWD! MORE *****IN BAD NEWS FROM SONY!!!

Are they RETARTED?! The only reason I went out and bought Tekken and Syphon Filter for my PSP is because of Devhook! I've spent over 120 dollars on UMDs since it came out... DAMN THEM!
