Feast your eyes on this! Here's Ditlew's next project named 'eTV'. eTV allows you to watch TV channels from your PSP, building on the successes of TVSP. After a few words with the developer of TVSP Andy Fung, who hasn't had the time to update it, Ditlew decided to update it himself. Just as with TVSP, the only hardware requirements for eTV is a video capture card, meaning you can avoid the expense of upgrading your PSP's firmware and buying a LocationFree device!

All you have to do is take a look at the screenshots or the video to see the quality of this work-in-progress homebrew application. Both screenshots are from Ditlew's video and show off the amazing quality of eTV. In case you have been wondering, here's a list of the differences between eTV and TVSP:

eTV Server:

  • New C# standalone server
  • Uses a Directshow filter, and can stream at full frame rate.
  • Doesn't need to be active program.
  • Can be minimized.
  • Can be run on a remote desktop.
  • Doesn't need the user to be 'logged in'
  • Crops any tv-feed to fit inside PSP's 480x272
eTV Client:
  • Connection chooser
  • Allows non 320x240 (1x1? -> 480x272)
  • Feed quality can be changed on the fly
  • Feed formats can be changed on the fly (8 different: 4/3, 16/9, ….)
  • Displays channel name, quality and screen format.
  • Fluid full rate tv (depending on the feed quality you choose)
Also, Congratulations are in order for Ditlew, who gets married tomorrow. Good luck Ditlew from QJ.NET and all it's readers! Ditlew said: "I had hoped it would be finished and ready for a beta release by now, but you guys will have to wait for me returning from my honeymoon."

Watch the video of eTV in action below. Alternatively, download the video and watch it on your PSP!

Update from Ditlew:

1.) No sound yet, will add before release.
2.) Channels are changed on the PSP.
3.) Not all TV tuners cards are supported, but server source will be released.
4.) The moaning .. have no idea, my wife to be was watching something on the TV.
5.) Will do my best to support all homebrew firmwares, but currently only tested on 1.5.
6.) Yes, it can be used remotely at starbuck or another hotspot, just adjust the quality to make the framerate fluid.
7.) Tnx, for all the congrats on my marriage :)

 » yes #1

there is a server that strems the tv content from the video card and then streams it into the psp

 » sounds nice

correct me if I'm wrong, but if I have a perfectly good TV at home, would the only use of this be if I don't want to watch TV on my computer? I suppose this could be useful if your computer is a DVR also and you didn't want to sit at your computer to watch the recordings. Sounds like fun, but I don't know too many people that will actually find this useful. Keep up the good work though.

 » Sound yet? Channel changing?

Is there a remote possibility that sound will eventually be included? That would make this eTV tits.

I am also curious if the channel changing is going on from the PSP or is that being done by changing the channel on the PC?

I have a BT878 tuner card that'll work great. I am very excited about this program. I really would like to see full features and sound support. Ditlew deserves more than a great marriage - hoorah! Way to go man...

 » Don't necessarily need a TV tuner/capture card

Some video cards have video inputs, also. You Quite a few of them do actually. For example, the ATI Radeon X800XL video card that I have has VIVO (Video Input/Video Output) capabilities that I use to connect my PS2 to my PC to play on my computer monitor.

The point is, you don't necessarily need to have a dedicated TV tuner or A/V capture device if your vid card has these functions built-in. Obviously, if your vid card can't do that, then yes, you'll need to get another dedicated capture device.

you still need a video Capture card really, your Video card obviously has it built in, but your video card is also a video capture card.

So is there a possibility to set-up my wireless speedtouch 110g to transmit instead of receiving? that would be cool. So i don't need to buy a external router instead. is this actually possible?
