Ó

For the guys still wondering how the PSP-Devolution modchip will handle, we've picked a news bit that should help you along. PSP mod guru jrfhoutx has announced that he's going to be reviewing the Devolution, to be released in segments.

This video will be the first part of the said review, and will begin with jrfhoutx installing the said USB-JTAG Programmer into the PlayStation Portable. Just in case the video title gave you the wrong ideas: jrfhoutx is letting the viewers know that this is not to be used as an installation guide for their own modchip. That's all for the moment - we'll let you guys know in case the modder brings up the rest of the review vids. Happy viewing!

Kudos to Foo foo for telling us about this release!

how many hours did this insanity take to complete?

Nice video, fast but sloppy soldering. Maybe my soldering isn't as bad as I thought after seeing that. but I'm not doing that to my PSP, maybe if I had a second PSP :)

 » Damn...

PSP modchips will NEVER take off. People aren't going to do this to their PSPs unless they've got an engineering degree. And with custom firmware, there really isn't a reason to.

   Re: DVD_Sandwich (Unregistered) - 2007-06-21
 » yup

Exactly. I'd rather just run 3.4OE or 3.5OE when it comes out. Not as much of a risk, really. I wouldn't feel comfortable taking apart my psp. I'm sure i'd mess up, and thats a $200 mistake

 » Yeah

Though, as there always will be people with official SONY firmware, the modchips won't vanish from the market... Yet...

OK, for starters, I cut my nails on a regular basis, you're just seeing them at 2x zoom, besides what's with you guys being super hygiene freaks? I see that comment on here all the time...

As for how long it took, it took me quite a while, but only because I was taking pics and video, if I hadn't had to do all that it probably wouldn't have taken me more than like an hour or so. To be honest my soldering skills are up to par and I actually do know how to solder and normally my soldering is much neater and much better than it looks in the video, and it may be slightly sloppy in the video, but my concern wasn't to make it look pretty, my concern was to show that though it can be a little difficult to install you don't need to be an expert at soldering to do this. Also, remember that this entire chip, though it looks big in the video, is smaller than a Memory Stick Duo...

I don't know, the UP didn't do too poorly, and so far this one seems to be doing pretty well, besides I know quite a few people who brick without custom firmware or brick with custom firmware and it can't be recovered with CF.

I don't have an engineering degree, I'm a mechanic and I did it, it has nothing to do with that, the problem is that people don't understand the purpose of them, Custom Firmware is great, but it's not the solution to everything and it can't recover all bricks

I would like to comment on the song choice. Around the World with Rollin' + Scratchin' on top. Good choice, my friend, good choice!

so... you risked bricking your psp to install a mod chip to prevent the possibility of bricking your psp in the future

brilliant!

Did you have a drink before or after doing that?

I fitted a xecuter into my xbox 1. The suspense after the installation and before testing is incredible.

well done dude!

Thanks for taking the time to make the vid, jrfhoutx.

Man, it took me hours to install my first modchip on a ps2. And the psp is much smaller inside, whoa....

   by jrfhoutx - 2007-06-22
 » ...

OK first off, if it says unregistered after my name in a comment, then it's not me, I am a registered QJ member...

The songs are:
'Around the world' by Daft Punk
'Rollin' and Scratchin' by Daft Punk
'Ooh La La' by Goldfrapp
'Halcyon+On+On' by Orbital

As for the install and the video, I didn't risk anything, I have confidence in my own skills and abilities, and I have more than one PSP. PSPs are a dime a dozen, I can always get another one if I brick one (I have a job after all). I did not have a drink before doing the install, but I did have a few beers afterwards... I love my Guinness...

Yes this did take hours to complete, but only because I was making the video. The video was edited, prep and down time were removed, and the speed was doubled in the editor, that's why it looks so fast... I don't work that fast... lol...

Who the blasted hell made that crappy Daft Punk mix?
Jeez, the beats are all over the place.
Sorry but that was just bad.
Otherwise, good stuff.
