I've put up a new patch and binary that hopefully will fix your problem with switching modes. Also, you can now mount your memory stick as an hdd image to work around the psp fat driver limitation. Be very careful! For now don't try it with a memory stick who's contents you care about! Try not to remove the memory stick without unmounting it first. Do not insert another memory stick without unmounting the previous one! Do not mount the memory stick as an image and as an regular mount at the same time as there is a good chance you will corrupt it! Mount it using "imgmount Heed the warnings, guys. Also, please be very careful when installing this app to avoid damaging your PSP. You can click on the source link below if you're in need of further information. Here's another update to the long-running DOS emulation for PlayStation Portable project from homebrew developer CrazyC. In case you are totally not aware about this one, the name of the program is DOSBox Team">Dosbox and it's currently on version 0.7.1. It allows PSP owners to run various DOS programs on their handhelds. This update, take note, is not a full release. It seems that the developer prefers to release different patches and binaries every time a new improvement has come up for Dosbox. This is what CrazyC had to say, "I've put up a new binary that hopefully gets rid of some of the pops and clicks in the audio although it will still skip if the emulator runs to slow. No patch yet, I want to finish some other things first". Be sure that you know exactly what you are doing before installing this on your PSPs to avoid any problems. You can refer to our previous articles on this or even the Source link below for more information. If you're a retro gamer, then you'll probably be interested to know that homebrew developer CrazyC has just rolled out a new update for DOSBox v0.71. This application should allows users to play old DOS games on your PSP. The developer tried to run SimCity 2000 and Tie Fighter on his handheld with this build. While the games did run, they did so at a very slow rate. Thus, some major optimization will be needed if you expect to run anything but the most basic of games. Since this is a patch for DOSbox v0.60, there isn't any documentation included. Here is CrazyC's post on the forums that should explain most questions on the program:
This patch, when applied to DOSbox 0.60 and linked with these library functions, arwin's p-sprint and SDL (with 8-bit surface patch), gets DOSbox running on the psp. Later versions use an array too large to fit in the PSP memory for indexing memory pages while this version has high level emulation of dpmi. I've tested SimCity 2000 and Tie Fighter and they run although very slowly, a lot of optimization will be need if this will be usable. Note that stat fails if the root of the memory stick is what is being checked therefore it cannot be mounted. Mounting ms0:/psp works fine though. Also there is currently no mouse or joystick support. So download the files and try it out. Be advised though that it won't be a simple process and some programming knowledge will be necessary for you to make it work. Download: DOSbox patch v0.71 Download: DOSbox configuration file |

The homebrew updates keep on rolling in! Now we have PS2 homebrew developer">Crazy_C - the same guy who became popular for his homebrew applications for PS2 - bringing us an update to his awesome Dosbox project, a DOS emulator for PSP. This isn't actually a full release as the update deals more with binary and patch tweaks. Crazy_C explains it best in his post: New binary and patch with fix to input mapping, more debugging for ir keyboard and some changes to the recompiler that I'm fairly sure that I've worked the bugs out of but if anything breaks with this that worked before, tell me.. For the uninitiated, DOSBox Team">DosBox is an emulator enabling users to run DOS programs on their PSPs. The necessary links and downloads are right below. Have fun with DOS! It appears Crazy_C has found inspiration from the folks who created the pre-made Eboot using the new components that originally came from him. After giving us a build of his DOS emulator last month, he's now back to the scene with another update to his DosBox project, now bringing it up to V0.7.1. Here's what he said in his release: New patch and binary fixes the input issues that are causing problems with dos navigator (hopefully for good) and adds support for the full x86 address space so windows enhanced mode works. For the uninitiated, DosBox is an emulator enabling users to run DOS programs on their PSPs. The important links and downloads are right below. It's also important to note that the "binary" download below is actually an ELF file, it should be converted to Eboot format first. You can also try renaming the file to "Eboot", but if that doesn't work, you'll have to convert it via a third party programs. Have fun with DOS! Link: 0.71 conf file Download: Dosbox V0.7.1 |
