Dragon Ball Z - Image 1So, you've read the manga, loved the anime and got hooked on the games, but are you ready to see Son Goku and his friends take on the big screen? 20th Century Fox surely is.

According to Canadian news site Canada.com, 20th Century Fox has given the go-ahead to three major film productions, one of them being a live-action movie based on Akira Toriyama's brainchild.

The movie will reportedly have a budget of no less than US$ 100 million, and will begin production soon with no details as to when it's projected to be shown.

The Dragon Ball Z franchise is considered as one of the most popular literary franchises in the world, with deals encompassing print, TV, video games, clothing and toys. Let's hope that this project yields results that will give justice to the legendary series. We'd love to see how the actors will go Super Saiyan on us.

Where's the audition!?! I would seriously want to try out as a DBZ character... Hope there's enough Asian actors to bring out all the DBZ characters!

 » couple of days old?

this is freakin years old
i heard about this on funimation's site back in 2001
if you google around you'll see people posting who they think will be cast as who on old forum pages

Just cause you might have heard this a years ago doesn't mean this is years old. This is a confirmation of its go ahead production.

Also I hope this is good, i mean They better take there time and actually make it good otherwise this can hurt the DBZ franchise, and im a hugest DBZ fan of all time.

I think theyd use trained experienced actors for a film with a budget of 100 million dollars. Not audition for people... unless its to be an extra or something i guess.

it was either goin to be Jet li or jackie chan. With all do respect, but they both will ruin the DBZ feel to it.

This will be interesting, three films in montreal. I saw the 1999 movie and it was kinda rubbish. I hope this will be better as it is probably going to be hard to keep their wigs/hair straight (if you've watched the program you'll know that their hair hardly moves.)

 » Well

I think they are going to mess up this movie! It's going to be like Street Fighter all over again!

   Re: na2rul - 2007-09-04

street fighter sucked. They should make it like spiderman - base it on the comic with a lil twist perhaps 2 or mb 3 movies

 » you suck fox

if this is true, then they're going to ruin it. Without a doubt, it will be a shameful representation of DBZ. It was only a matter of time before they looked to DBZ as a means to make more money, it's sad that they're going to sacrifice quality for it.

» This could go either way

it could re-invigorate the franchise that is now long past its hey day, or be a complete failure... and bury db forever just as pokemon is now buried under its own overblown popularity. who knows... I hope bulma's played by some hot chick.

 » DBZ S*cks!!!

There should be a Saint Seiya movie too!!!

   by Mattroid - 2007-09-03
 » wut?

how are they going to do this? Even in an hour and a half to two hours, you know most of it will be nothing but powering up. How much story can they possibly get through in one movie?

I take it this will be some crappy side story like the anime movies, and not directly taken from the main story. But still.

They should just make it one long-ass battle between Goku and Vageta. TWO HOURS OF IT. With a high budget and awesome special effect, that could be pretty sweet.

On second thought, don't.

if its anything like what they were in 2001
every saga will be split into 3 movies of 3 hours each

» do a better job than DRAGON PEARL .

i cant wate for this film, the asian film corp couldnt pull it off in early 1980s but computer inhanced video CG these day is great so if they do better that transformers and make the film action packed and make it real long and dont revise any of the origonal story line than this movie will be the SSHHIITT. ive kinda have been dreading this movie because i love mr akira toryiama and the dragon ballz universe and if this movie is not repersent the god like author's vision than i will be very ppiisseedd offf and upset.PLEASE WHO EVER DIRECTS THIS FILM PLEASE MAKE THIS FILM TRUE TO THE ORIGONAL UNCUT JAPANISE STORY LINE AND PLEASEMAKE THE FILM LIKE 2 AND A HALF HOURS LONG AND THEN WHEN IT KICKKKS A$$$$$$$ AT THE BOX OFFICE THEN MAKE LIKE 6 MORE AFTER THAT. THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE BIGGER THAN LORD OF THE RINGS AND STARWARS PUT TOGETHER.i am the worlds BIGGEST DBZ FAN IN EXISTANCE AND THE FANZ EXPECTATIONS ARE HIGH SO DO NOT DO A HALF BAKED JOB.

   by squall3031 (Unregistered) - 2007-09-03
 » yeah right...

This movie will fail. Trust me. Live-action SUCKS!
If they want to make this movie popular, they should make a CG movie like Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children.

Squaresoft was right about making CG movie,,..The only reason why Final Fantasy The spirits Within failed was because the storyline suck!!!
