protecting first post!
wow for real?
w00t
Now all we need is the ability to get it on our PSPs without shelling out $100 on a modchip...
is this for real? What happens if sony releases 2.8 and it blocks the modchip?
So with epsilon we don't need to restart the psp everytime to run the newest or older firmware? That is freakin awesome.
I wonder if Devhook (or any other form of FW launching) could emulate the epslion bios without U.P. for FW 1.0/1.5
While paying 90 (for the chip, doing it your self, and risking breaking your psp), 200 (for the instlation done for you), or 450-500 (for a pre-modded psp) might sound great for the peeps with 2.7+ (or 2.01+ for non-GTA owners or people who want full homebrew), dosen't sound so great for the 1.5'ers among us (90, 200, or 450-500 dollars to play comercial games... right).
any thoughts?
lol QJ this was on the forums hours ago. Oh well.
This is really great news. I have a 1.5 though, I see little or no use in 2.7+ other than the UMD games, but I figure that there will be a way to play them on my 1.5 eventually. The thing that would be really great is if they could make a custom firmware that took out ALL restrictions, or custom firmwares for other things like the network cards.
sounds great !!!!
simply unbalievable
It would be nice if devhook did emulate it as well.
That's awesome!! Great work UP team!
Anways this is awsome cant wait to put the up in my psp it's just sitting there waiting to be deflowered and people shut up and dont say "Fake!" or up is way to much and blah blah just BE HAPPY your the reason my indian brothere humma kulva turned his back to the scene. Just imagine what the scene would be like with him, proberly wouldnt need this modchip. But *****s will be *****s and thanx god for boozer on his dev hook he kept me from upgrading!!!!
Why won't someone release the unencryption method for 2.60+ now... god, is this going to become a war with businesses now in an effort to keep things trade secrets? :( Bad.
Now really, this all depends on a couple of things, even if you have a 1.5 if this FW as shown in the video is booting everything (without having to modify anything) then it really is great, but if this FW is booting stuff that has had fixes (PRX being the prime example) then this isn't so good for 1.5 owners.
I wasn't so sure until the video showed the PSP tray being opened to reveal there is no UMD.
I in no way disbelieve what was shown in the video, but ***** can be faked, until this has hit the masses I will remain somewhat sceptical.
This is the sort of thing that would make someone with a 1.5 actually consider getting a chip;
i love u undiluted platinum
With this modchip, is it now possible to crack the 2.6+ firmwares since we should have full read and write access to flash0 and flash1? If so then devhook could emulate it and remove the need for an expensive psp modchip. wishful thinking or reality?
Haveing never used a ISO on a psp i wouldn't know, But I asume I can back my UMD's up to the memory stick and blah blah, How much of a load time will this save, As saving a mass amount of load time would be my only reason for a chip
if we install this mod, can we still play our games online, like syphon filter, socom, etc...?
Of course, the modchip boots with a sleep mode as well, so even if Sony could detect the chip you should be safe unless they implemented a system like they did in the Xbox for detecting modified hardware.
I just didn't know if the dnas would detect it
When will this be released...? will you be able to rip UMDs to ISOs, and if so will they be compressed (like the ciso/dax format.. I only have a 512 stick)..? does the chip come with a cable to write to both the flash and the mem stick.?
I am so going to get this if it meets all my expectations
I liked everything in this video except for the ugly logo when he hit the home button. My idea of a custom firmware is one that works seamlessly behind the scenes without big flashy logos. I understand that credit is due where credit is due but I don't think it needs to be so obnoxious. Some credited text in the system menu would suffice.
Secondly, in an above comment it was mentioned that it will cost $200 to ship your PSP off to be modded. For someone with a 1.5 like me, this doesn't seem that enticing. Especially when you consider the long term effects that modchips tend to have on hardware and potential security updates from Sony which would prevent their new updates from being run with a modchip detected.
For now, I think I will just sit back and wait. If the initial consumers' reactions of this modchip are horror story free after the first few months upon release and the prices settle down a bit, this may be something I could consider.
if they made this fw from 2.71 that means they decrpted the files which means the devhook guys can do the same and emulate this fw or 2.71 requiring absolutly no need for any 1.5 users to have a modchip especially for 100$ plus installation cause you know that most people that have a psp cant install that themselves ;-) thank god im 1.5
Don't 1.0 PSP's have the ability to install custom firmwares? If so, the few people with 1.0 can just download and install Epsilon on the normal flash memory, no? Man, I sure wish I had a 1.0 right now, rather than my damn 2.6 >_<
Also, if you have a 1.0, can you use that 'downgrade' method to go to 1.0, but rather than go back to 1.5, you install Epsilon?
Meh, Iono, I have a 2.6 =(
God how I hate my lack of money right now. As soon as I can justify spending that much money, I am doing it. No *****ing kidding at all. I can't wait until I have my own modified PSP.
By the end of summer, it should be in my hands! Muahahaha!
Ahem, anyways, great work people.
I plan on getting this chip. For the love of PSP's capabilities
The FW can't be flashed due to the IPL (which is why there will never be a custom FW with out a modchip)
hows he booting the games as if they are 100% homebrew
some more news about iso loading! naughty qj.net haha
i wanna see someone with the makers of devhook to be able to reroute the firmware like they do already, but to custom firmware. doesnt see too farfetched
I see no reason why this shouldn't work with devhook...
