It may not be well known in the west, but it's a fact that Capcom met success with Monster Hunter in Japan not because they just love mindless monster killing in the land of the rising sun. With the explosive release of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G for the Sony PlayStation Portable, we can be certain about what made the series such a hit.Looking at the recent survey Famitsu held when Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G made its debut, it is apparent that the online component is what compelled hunters to come back for more (2nd G being a mere expansion pack). Most players tested the waters when they picked up the first Monster Hunter for PS2 and its counterpart for the PlayStation Portable, but the more portable yet online-capable handheld versions topped the chart of which titles they wanted to stick with. Around 50% of survey participants admitted they don't settle for anything less than multiplayer, while over 30% enjoy both online and offline. Only 18% play Monster Hunter games solely for the single player experience. Consequently, some 82% hooked up to download quests available online. If anything, Monster Hunter's more casual appeal is comparable to World of Warcraft - both online games where you can tag along with real people to take on breathtaking quests. Retailers noted that the amount of new players were surprising, including a considerable portion of females. Consumers said they want to play with people they don't know, and stressed co-op doubles the fun. Without a doubt, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G's March 27 launch contributed to the PSP's stellar performance in Japan during the month's final week. This can be attributed to almost 30% of fans who bought new models of the handheld during that period, presumably bundled with the game. |

Duh whoe wouldent want to play online with others co-op ir not. Multiplayer games Are the reason to play games. Without them ur just playing with yourself....And thats only fun for so long then you get bored and want a partner....

Thats da dumbest comment I have ever encountered. Obviously u dont think about what you are saying. So you're tryin to tell me that dat the final fantasy series wasn't fun because it doesn't have multiplayer? A more correct response to this topic is that certain games need multiplayer function for it to be fun, and Monster Hunter would be one of those games. Some critics hate the game, giving it a mediocre rating solely for the fact that its camera angles are weird.. It's called getting used to the game.. If reviewers took the time to learn how to play the game maybe they'll understand how great of a game Monser Hunter is.

you cant have a wrong opinion no matter how misguided. stop comparing street fighter to final fantasy. one is a highly advanced mind sport and the other is nothing more than an interactive story.
Anyone can play ff. not many play or even like 2d fighters at all. it was almost a dieing genre for a while there too. ANYWAY, those are games you do NOT usually play 1 player unless your practicing for 2player. (i do but none of my buddies will)
Let other ppl have their own opinions.
To further his point, and challenge yours, from your own perspective you seem to be saying that FINAL FANTASY makes you NEVER want to be around friends (partners). You claimed he didnt think about what he said but it looks like you spent less thought when deciding your own.
"And thats only fun for so long then you get bored and want a partner...." + "Screw all 1p games??" wtf... Everyone likes at least one FF title.
Now that is lame.
And with MHF, go make some friends. Then you could play 4 player AD-Hoc like many other (lucky) psp pwners.
All i ask for is ad-hoc. Online would be the best OBVIOUSLY then we could play at like 12am from our beds. I find that PSP online is lame as is anyway.
MHF would be best played on ps2/3, the only way it SHOULD work is by having a save passport system so you can transfer from portable to console.
(Sorry for the long post thanks for reading)

I swear I'm gonna go over to Capcom's office and beat them with a large stinkin trout if they don't include infrastructure mode in the next MH game for PSP. Obviously I hope the sales are convincing enough for them to make another one in the future, probably port MH3 over.
For all the cash they are raking up, they would have to some cheap b*stards to not include online, which could potentially help sell the game even more, especially in US and EU where online multiplayer is even more popular.

» great idea, but..
the thing is capcom alrdy hav an online alternative, which is mh frontier. now people r gonna start sayin "well dey dnt hav it in da west". da reason y is bcuz there isnt a large enough fan base in the west for capcom to even consider our suggestions. i guess most just cant bare learning how to play a difficult-at-first game, wen it is by far the best game in da psp. and mh3 will b released for da wii, and mayb (hopefully) in da ps3.

I know a lot of people are put off by the game's steep difficulty curve and that it's really good if you invest enough time in it. It's just, the game would be both more enjoyable and less frustrating for new players in the west if online was built in. It would in fact attract more western gamers to the game. Capcom has to do their part if they want the franchise to be successful in the west. Local multiplayer isn't gonna cut it. I don't know a single person who likes the game, so the only way to play multiplayer is online.
Also I think one of the reasons Capcom decided to shift MH3's development from PS3 to Wii is so they can cheaply port it over to PSP as MHF3. I can't see them working on the PS3 version anymore. If it was being ported from PS3 to Wii, then it would have happened.
