Fanjita: What should you do with a non-homebrew PSP?

Writing about homebrew for the past few months have taught me a lot of things, one of them is this - "When Fanjita talks, you should listen". Recently, the legendary homebrew developer answered this question "What should I do with my non-homebrew PSP?". He mentions that they had been getting a lot of questions that goes like these:

When will there be a 2.81 downgrader?
Should I sell my 3.03 PSP and buy a 1.5?
Should I upgrade my 2.81 to 3.03?

Now, Fanjita mentions that he hopes that his article would be able to answer those questions. A good way of reaching an answer is setting the facts straight. So with that, he mentioned the facts in this particular scenario. Again, here is Fanjita's word-per-word statements:

It looks like the Team C+D kernel mode exploit will work all the way up to v3.03 - the relevant code seems to be unchanged.
It's very likely that Sony will patch that exploit in the next firmware.
As soon as a user-mode exploit is found for 2.81-3.03, it should be possible to get homebrew running on those firmwares.
It looks like the current 2.80 downgrader will probably work on v3.03, once we can run homebrew on that firmware.
Dark_AleX's OE firmwares are the best platform for homebrew users, and it seems likely that it will be possible to keep updating OE for the latest firmwares shortly after they are released.
It has historically always been easier to downgrade lower firmwares.

Now that he straightened out the facts, What could these mean for those people who are stuck with their 2.81-3.03 FW PSP? Fanjita says that things are more hopeful for them now and that he and his team are only one step away from being able to downgrade your PSP so as you could use the OE firmwares. A downgrader will come, he continues, but no one (not even Fanjita himself) could accurately predict when that might be.

He also mentions that upgrading to the next Sony PSP firmware release would be homebrew suicide, so if you wanna join in all those homebrew fun that we're enjoying, better ignore the next firmware update. And finally, upgrading your firmware from FW 2.81 to FW3.00 isn't a great move as you might delay your choice to downgrade when a downgrader finally comes.

Lastly, he mentions that if you have some spare cash but your patience is running out, then it would be best to buy a downgradeable PSP. Price difference isn't very large these days so it might be worth it.

But at the end of the day, hope is not lost for people stuck with higher firmwares. You could always have some fun with some PSP flash games, portals, TIFF games and apps and even game demos. For now, just be patient. Fanjita and the Noobz development team are working very hard for you guys to experience some homebrew fun.

That confused me too . It should be taken out, as it's obviously not possible to use TIFF apps/games (which is, "running homebrew") on firmwares on which you "can't run homebrew" (makes sense, eh?)

You can play tiff games on all the firmwares that don't have the tiff patch. Some people dont downgrade and would rather just keep using hen and tiff games.

i sorta wanted to downgrade then upgrade bak to 2.8 becuz of the gameshare demos. thoes were fun, and REAL games.

This should be jumped so noobs in other forums and threads will stop posting the darndest things. It will take awhile but like fanjita said the last thing you would want to do is update. Made that mistake when 2.8 came out he pretty much the sameday as I got my psp and I was stuck with inferior homebrew due to lack of kernel access and a longer wait from because of the MoBo.

Also thank god the scene has change since then because on whole the people where d!cks just braging about their 1.5fw and downgrading and homebrew pass the gta exploit seemed impossible.

1 thing he hasn't mentioned is those who r fortunate enough to own a non-cursed mobo motherboard but foolishly upgraded beyond 2.80...there is still a chance to dg. use modchip but hv it installed only by pro. cheaper den buying a new dged set.

U guys r not as bad as me. Coz mine bricked...waiting 4 repair. So the principal rules r :

1) Be patient no matter what. If u dun hv it, keep yr psp away n dun paly it. dun attempt to downgrade 4 the moment.
2) Must hv faith with the programmers. They hear u ok?
3) Dun complain watsoeva. U can't be worse den me.

what to do?

Buy Tekken DR, Metal Gear Portable Ops, Pro Evolution Soccer 6, GTA Vice City or any of the great games which takes your fancy.

Get a high capacity memory stick for video and music.

Enjoy owning a great portable media player/games console.

and you never know if thats still not enough one day you may get the chance to downgrade too.

I say, if it can be coded, it can be hacked. I wish I had all the knowledge these people like the noobz team and DaX, and all the other great devs.

I say to everyone never give up hope... If Sony can code it, devs can eventually hack it, and this is good news from Fanjita. Looks like even 3.03 FW people can one day enjoy homebrew too.

History tells us, if you want homebrew, never upgrade to next firmware no matter what.
No patience, sell your non-homebrew PSP and buy a downgradable/downgraded PSP.
Today, any PSP can be homebrew friendly regardless of motherboard version, or firmware version. Here in Hong Kong, harddown is extremely common, and anyone can get 3.03 OE-C, if they got cash.

probably as soon as they come out with a way to downgrade to 2.71, then you should be able to do the 2.71 ta-082 softdown and end up with 1.5 or the newest custom fw. Its all a matter of time now. but don't give up, my buddy stupidly upgraded from 1.5 to 3.01, so he's waiting with you buddy

downgrading a TA-082 motherboard is quite simple...all u have to do is change the IDstorage of the psp...as soon as a 2.81+ downgrader is out the IDstorage changer should be out with it for TA-082 mobo's

I am stuck on 3.03 with an original motherboard. So i hope there will be a 3.03 downgrader soon or i want to update from 3.03 to 3.03OE-C if they could run it from the exploit so there is no need to downgrade. meh the dev's so allready have a downgrader for 2.81 ONLY but one thats not 1000000% safe to use on all MOBO's ATM, there just saying this to whip up some excitment coz in about a month there gunna have a Downgrader done and ready to release, other wise why post this news and then post the new Custom firmware there teasing us while they iron out bugz and get it to allow original 2.81's to downgrade 1.50/2.71 then up to newer Custom Firmware.

is this info correct? i have text on both sides. the left side says "IC6001" and the left side says "IC1003". i'm gussing i've got a TA-082 motherboard. i'm new at this and would like the get the info correct sooner than later even if there isn't a downgrader out yet i would like to learn everything now.

i rarely hear about anyone using the RSS i listen to ESPN and CNN every morning and can play flsh games online anytime so why would i want to downgrade just to play these crappy homebrew games? if these coders were as good as you people make them sound they would be writing for a company and not to fulfill you dorks wetdream of having free games that look like a child development toy. Go buy the sega collection (which is awsome) if you want to play games with sub par graphics. Until i see SMB1 or street fighter 2 in decent working order on a homebrew i will continue w/ 3.03FW.
