v2.70 FAQ

The recent release of PSP Firmware v2.70 has made people wonder about the possible effect this new software could have on the future of Homebrew.

To clear up some of those questions, Fanjita evaluated the new firmware and constructed a quick FAQ:
  • Homebrew does not work on v2.7. The GTA exploit is thoroughly patched, and the TIFF exploit is still patched [Confirmed by QJ.NET already].
  • It's unknown when homebrew will be available on v2.7. A whole new exploit needs to be developed.
  • In Fanjita's opinion (shared with EdisonCarter) there is no future for the GTA exploit on v2.7.
  • LocoRoco is an encrypted, signed EBOOT. The only way to run homebrew in the same way is to get Sony's encryption key and sign the homebrew. This is impossible.
  • There could possibly be an exploit to be found in all the new function, e.g. flash player, AAC support, etc. Fanjita and his team are not currently working on one.
  • There might be an exploit to be found in another game. Fanjita and his team are not currently working on one.
  • There's no truth in the rumour that v2.7 has made Fanjita and his team angry, and that they are going to work on an ISO loader as revenge.
  • The LocoRoco demo REQUIRES v2.70, even if you hack the PARAM.SFO in the EBOOT.
Following this, he drawn the conclusion that the firmware upgrade brings little benefits (therefore, it is not worth upgrading) due to slow support in regards to Macromedia Flash files and the possibility that we might not see v2.70 compatible homebrew for at least the next few months.

He forgot to put " 2.7 blows! " I have 2 PSP's and trust me 2.7 is not worth the upgrade yet.

i upgraded on purpose. homebrew was getting old again.
besides, the fact of there being flash is (much easier) better for exploits.

I am so pissed @ Sony for this, but they aren't stupid. I still love my homebrew on 2.6 and don't plan to update. Good luck with your next exploit guys. I thought you might want to see 2.7, I don't know if its actually real.

 » ISO loader

I thought Fanjita was going to work on a piracy-proof ISO loader for 2.0+? I remember this was posted on his site a long time ago

 » Bleh.

I didn't care, I updated. I'm also glad I updated, my PSP seems faster with 2.7 then it did with 2.6. I also don't plan on using any homebrew methods that require me to purchase a $50 game that I have absolutley no intrest in playing and despise in the first place for ever being developed.

Hahaha... the poor kid upgraded and whines because no one wants to support him. We're well past the age where people can "OMG, I accidentally upgraded, what should I do?"

It's been many, many months and upgrades now. If you haven't figured it out yet, you deserve the upgrade you got.

 » Seriously

I personaly don't believe that Fanjita or anyone should make a exploit for this new firmware. Simply because it takes so much time to create and develope a new exploit and its just not worth it for this firmware. I would personaly wait to see what firmware is out when the psone emulator comes out. Besides if their is a new exploit in this firmware then its best keep it a secret so it can be used when future firmwares comes out with better stuff.

» Fanjita, for goodness sakes, take the day off.

At the end of the day, if we didn't upgrade, guess what? E-loader still works like a charm! So why, after all the warnings, after all the past firmware problems, did people upgrade and whine about no homebrew? And why on earth would we ask him to do something he's already done? (Fix our mistakes of upgrading) Not to mention *flame him*?! That's like flaming a guy that walks up to your door, hands you $1000, and walks away asking for nothing. Real smart.

Fanjita et al, throw back a few pints, and know that the rational people on this site expect nothing more from you.

Of course if you can figure out a way to get the PSP to like... free Tibet, or like... Solve the problems in the Middle East... or maybe strip coaxial cable for us... I'm sure that would be appreciated ;)

Own: One Fanjita PSP
Wish List: Two Fanjita PSP's

 » what is with Sony?

If sony knows about these exploits, they must read message boards, right? Well, then shouldn't they see how much people care about homebrew too? Why does Sony so intent on f**king over its consumers? And if allowing homebrew could stimualte sales, WHY DONT THEY ALLOW IT? The PSP sales could be so much better if they would just come out of their "we hate homebrew" state of mind. So Sony, do you enjoy watching the DS continuously wiping the floor in sales? DO you actually want the PSP to fade into obscurity? Do you like having a large portion of your consumers that shelled out $250+ for your system HATE YOU???? If not, then I and the rest of the PSP community advise you allow homebrew. If you dont, the PSP is going to bomb BADLY, and your reputation will be marred by it.

 » You must be forgetting.......

Soon all new UMD's will require 2.7 firmware to run and Sony are not going to make the same mistakes that allowed 2.0-2.5/2.6 games to be exploited and run under 1.5 firmware.

by Anonymous Coward (Unregistered) - 2006-04-25
 » Nice Try...

You guys are stupid to have updated in the first place, but then again, they're just simple ROMS for the GBC or SNES... You would have to have a 1.5, *LIKE ME HAHAHA LOSERS*, to enjoy such great things as ISOs, Extended SNES emus (ME, anyone?,) and I can even play UMDs for higher firmwares if I feel so inclined! I win at the end of the day, guys, enjoy legal games for the next few months until the next update!!! HAHA
