Final Fantasy VII

The moment you have all been waiting for has finally arrived as Square Enix has released a trailer for the highly-anticipated Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core for PSP today, just 3 days after we said that it was about time a trailer for Crisis Core was made available.

We are expecting a playable demo to be released by the end of 2006, but to tide you over Square Enix has gone all-out with a nice video for you to watch. The trailer is 5 minutes long and captures both cinematic video and actual gameplay; just showing what a prequel to Final Fantasy VII (and a storyline following Zack, the 1st Class Soldier) can do.

With the demo scheduled for release soon, anticipation in gaming circles is building up. Remember, if you happen to be around the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan on December 16 or 17, don't forget to check out Crisis Core which will be playable at the Jump Festa event. A translated transcript for all you Final Fantasy fans can be found below by hitting up the "read" link. Enjoy the video!

»  Man, even Kojima isn't fully backing the PSP (MGS: PO has comic book cutscenes)

Kojima always goes "all out" with his projects using big-budget production values. MGS: PO does not use cutscenes like the other MGS games, it uses comic book panels instead. This shows that even the biggest Sony supporters are "limiting" their "focus and budget" for PSP games. Sony might have made a mistake for making PSP so powerful. A "big-budget" DS game like Final Fantasy III probably cost Square only half what MGS: PO costs, and PO didn't even use full cutscenes. Is this the end of PSP? When a Sony loyal, like Kojima is even "holding back?"

   Re: . (Unregistered) - 2006-12-01

I think that the reason why Portable Ops is using the comic book style for the cutscenes is because of space limits on the UMD. In fact I don't care Im buying Portable Ops on launch day and Crisis Core when it gets released.

   Re: meh (Unregistered) - 2006-12-01
 » holding back? pff

as he already stated before, the cutscenes are for the style
he liked the style, he is going to use them...umd space might be a problem as well, but they are stylish +p
and talking about the end of psp just proves you know nothing....
dumb kids shouldn't be allowed to use the internet

Pretty much the main reason I'm interested in MPO are the Ashley Wood cutscenes, it reminds me of Kojima's oldskool games Snatcher and Policenauts, in a way.

   Re: MiGs (Unregistered) - 2006-12-02
» You got it all wrong strangler.

The Kojima name basically stands for quality. Any game that Hideo Kojima has worked gives you the feeling that you got your money's worth, I don't think this can be said about FF3 on the DS, unless your absolutely a diehard fan of FF games. I personally like the new comic book look for cutscenes, it basically has that art style from the metal gear games (the cover for MGS2 for example), but animated to the highest degree of style and coolness, how can you say thats "holding back"?

   Re: GaveUpTomorrow - 2006-12-02
 » wow...

FFVII the only RPG you ever played? RPGs have many different battle systems. The battle system in this game reminds me of Star Ocean 3's battle system from what I've seen so far. Learn what an RPG is before you say dump things. Typing in all caps only makes you look dumb as well.

 » Chris....

damn if people were like you then I bet that every company that create games in the whole world would go bankrupt after the release of their first game.

It doesn't hurt if they change it into an action game (it's an action rpg to be precisely). If the game is good and fun then that's all that matters right? You play a game because it's fun.

People who limit themselves within on genre only miss alot of stuff.

 » FFVII is so overrated

seriously it had an ok story, mediocre charater development, and a pathetic excuse for a sequel (Dirge of Cerberus) This game looks awesome though and i will definately get it, but out of all the 3D FFs, VII was on the bottom with IX (VIII owns them all) And for that noob up there....

METAL GEAR SOLID: PORTABLE OPS WILL BRING THE PSP TO ITS RIGHTFULL SHINING GLORY!!!!!!!111oneone

I'm still waitinng for square's nextword on KH for PSP

if they did as great a job on the voice acting in crisis core as they did on ff:XII this game will rock!

   Re: GaveUpTomorrow - 2006-12-02
 » Hopefully the voice acting...

won't be anything like what they did with Advent Children :( I loved the movie, but the voices just seemed to ruin it. Its still an awesome movie though.

I think that you will find the average age of a DS gamer to be much higher than what you say it is - do you not see that Nintendo markets the DS at over 18s? You may be in the US, but in the UK, the DS Lite (and Wii) are marketed mainly at the over 18s, being advertised during shows which mainly adults watch, and appearing in magazines that the 25 to 35 age group read, as well as the Touch Generation games being marketed at over 50s. It maybe different in the US, but having visited North America twice this year, it seemed pretty much the same to me.

But, even if the AVERAGE DS gamer was 10, the market is not pushed by what 10 year olds want, as hardcore gamers and early adopters affect how a market moves, as well as the target demographic.

The problem is that until Sony get over this conception of "Nintendo = kids" and "Sony = adults", they have not got a chance of overtaking Nintendo in the handheld sector. Do you not see this?
