I think it is because the conditions of the game have not been met at this point. The possibility for a remake may become greater if, for instance, the schedules of the original members of the Final Fantasy VII development team, such as Kitase and Nomura, open up. |

i really do hope this pushes through :)
I won't buy a remake on the PSP. The system is just too close to the specs of the original PSX. A remake of the game on the PSP would almost be pointless. If that was their goal they may as well port the game like they did FFT. Even that didn't work well.
If you are going to do it, do it for PS3. We've already seen the tech demo. If a remake came to PS3 it would define the system at this point. You need to make a remake where it is actually going to be improved upon
how about miles ahead of the psx and closer to the specs of the ps2. that would be a little more accurate. lets see the psx play vice city stories. hahahahaha.
sorry i just have to bash you again now that i just remembered something. have you ever heard that in order to emulate a system the system the emulator is running on has to be approximately 10 times more powerful than the system being emulated? yeah... it's true. and psx is emulated on the psp.
10 times as powerful?
Did you hear that most statistic are 73% made up ?
I agree with you on the fact that making the remake for PSP rather than PS3 would be stupid.
I mean, come on. It would be much cooler to play it with those super-cool HD graphics.
And the 1.8 GB UMD can't hold that much data. Blu-Ray on the other hand can hold so much more stuff.
If PSP is close to PSX specs, then the PS3 and 360 must be close to the specs of PC's from the late 90s.
I so much agree with Ludikhris.
A PS3 remake would be sooo much better.
This game would look a Whole lot better for the PS3
The graphics would be amazing for it
and they have said that the ps3 was gonna get the remake from the beginning anyways so why would they change platforms?
My first qj comment, and a fine subject. You gotta remember though not everyone has PS3's. More people have PSP's. Besides, okay it'd have better graphics but I'd rather take it anywhere I wanted too. And if it is the same graphics as the PS1 version I highly doubt it because it'd be pointless. But I mean, why not bring it out on both?
In the mean time i'm still getting over the fact that crisis core IS coming out in europe....Oh god...
Why touch it if it aint broke?
It sells and customers want it, so why do you think Final Fantasy 1-6 from nes and snes, to gameboy, gameboy colour, gameboy advance, nds, playstation one etc...
Would be great to see a FF7 remake in Crisis Core FF7 style.
As "hardcore" or "old school" of a gamer you might call yourself, there's no denying that by today's standards, FFVII is butt-ugly. Anyone raised in the PS2 generation will look at FFVII and wonder what the hell this mish-mash of polygons and pre-rendered backdrops are. hahahaha.... to be young again~
I agree with Seoulfood... The game looks extremely dated by todays standards... Primitive polygons on pixelated pre-rendered backdrops don't age as well as say, the 16-bit graphics of Chrono Trigger. In my opinion, this game is worthy of a graphical makeover than all others. However, I think the battle system does not need any tinkering... It would be fine as it is.
To all purists who would boycott square-enix if they did remake FF7, I understand where you're coming from... However, if they do remake it, you don't have to play it. Remember that.
FFVIICC already came out for Japan, which i played and its pretty cool, and not psx specs
whats the problem, they can just translate it to english already
the whole reason for me to buy the psp was for ff. thank god there are new things found, but they need to hurry up.. FFVIICC JAP is cool, but i want to know what they are saying
What are you talking about?
Crisis Core is coming out anyway, the point of the article is to say that the much-anticipated remake of FFVII is a possibility, provided they can get the original team together to make it.
And for the record... I vote they make it for PS3, because I already played through the original on my PSP.
and if we're gonna have to pay anything near a standard umd price for it, square enix can shove it up their own asses. we already have something called popstation
but of course, if it's something new. different gameplay style and stuff like that, we welcome it with open arms :D
I've been waiting for this for years, so I told Square Enix to screw it by ripping a friends FF7 and I'm now playing that on my PSP.
I'm doubtful of an updated PSP version. If anything it'll be PSP and PS2, since it's sold more.
If Square Enix liked money they'd release it on the DS or Wii, but hey.
Quoted from asusboy:
Would be great to see a FF7 remake in Crisis Core FF7 style.
@asusboy:
If you mean gameplay then NO NO NO NO NO.
Just a graphics improvement is all that FF7 needs.
Maybe some new features.
Next... PSP definitely has better specs that psx.
Would be nice if they remake it for both PSP and PS3. (Not likely though)
Anyways....
Yeah I hope this does go through also.
What would be really cool...
If they redid the graphics for ff6 (ff3).
i would like to play ff7 on the psp if they remake it
i've always wanted to play ff7 portable!
it will have better graphics since its stronger than the ps1
FF7 to the PSP or PS2 would be great. I'm honestly not a graphics whore so the graphics don't have to be as impressive as they are on the PS3.
FF7 wouldn't be as hard to remake as most people think either. Since Crisis Core is there, they now have a graphics engine that would work for the game.
One thing that many people who posted don't get. 1.8GB is enough memory. The reason that most games take up so much memory is the fact that they put FMV in them. It doesn't matter how good the quality of the FMV is, if it's there, it takes up a huge amount of space.
Squaresoft could just do what Monolith Soft did with the Xenosaga series, what Koji Igarashi did with Lament of Innocence, or what Atari did with the Dragon Ball games. Use the in-game graphics engine instead of FMVs.

"Use the in-game graphics engine instead of FMVs."
With Final Fantasy, the game series that relies greatly on beautiful FMVs, you think that they should use a not-so-beautiful game engine?
Remake of FFVII, finally some news! But only on PSP? Why not on PSP, PS2 and PS3?
Oh, and who gives a stuff about the FMVs? I'd prefer a longer, more enjoyable game, than a pretty one.
