Okay, enough with the conflicting reports in Engrish, enough of Casino Royale trailers on Gamers' Day, enough of the wild speculation and rampant imaginations. If you haven't been toying with your PSP and your PS3 at the same time - because you don't have one of each, or you currently are or will be too busy playing games, and you don't know how Remote Play really looks like...

Thank salimdao who sent us these YouTube embeds of his PS3 (FW1.10) throwing itself to the PSP (FW3.0) through Remote Play. That's the PS3, a music CD, a BD of "Talladega Nights", and a Memory Stick full of media files, all on the small widescreen of the PSP. You see everything from PS3 setup, to PSP setup, to the handshake between the two, and then Remote Play getting down, four on the floor. No, really. The PSP was on the floor the whole time.

That's four YouTube videos to look at. The Blu-Ray one, however, is either incomplete, or salimdao wasn't able to make it work, because it ends before the guy could make the movie play on his PSP. Hey salimdao, if you're reading this, can you tell us if the movie did play?

PS3/PSP Remote Play Network setup

PS3/PSP Remote Play music CD

PS3/PSP Remote Play "Talladega Nights"... maybe*

PS3/PSP Remote Play media on Memory Stick

* Our theory as to why it didn't work is because you have to have the BD disc already playing on the PS3 (salimdao "quit playback" before accessing the PSP) for it to Remote Play on the PSP. On the other hand, it looks like the PSP is supposed to act like a remote control of the PS3's media functions, so again, this is all wild speculation. Again. We really do hope that salimdao reads this and can help clarify things for us.

I don't get it, what's the point? The PS3 is right there. What possible use could you have for looking at it on the PSP? Anybody?

   Re: not (Unregistered) - 2006-11-21
 » PS3 close

It's not always right there. They were close just to show you. They may want to play it in their room while the PS3 is in the living room or something.

   Re: Teknorat (Unregistered) - 2006-11-21
 » er

Yes but you can't, you can't even use it as a controller at the moment. All you can do is access photos and music. So what? There's no point!

   Re: Shotgun (Unregistered) - 2006-11-21
 » Well

Sony said that i the future, youll be able to access your PS3 stuff wirelessly from any location.

» no video playback and remote play

you cant play any type of disc on the PS3 and enter Remote Play at the same time. i had to quit video playback and enter Remote Play. once i got into Remote Play, it wouldnt read the Blu-Ray movie.

   Re: ZOLTRIX - 2006-11-21
 » Got an idea.

Can you enter Remote Play and still go through the menu's on the PS3?

If so, enter Remote play and start the video on the PS3, then check if the PSP is playing it.

yeah i know what SDTV stands for. i was thinking that he's shocked bcuhs my PS3 isnt connected to a HDTV, which i know what that stands for also. then i replied saying that im saving up for one.

i tought blueray films only worked on a 1080p tv? his useing a normal tv and the psp dont support 1080p . im i correct?
thanks

   Re: 2k1yellows2k - 2006-11-23
 » It downscales.

My Sony lcd supports everything but 1080p, and on blu-ray movies it downscales to 1080i. But with games made for 720p, it plays them perfectly in 720p.

For sdtvs, I'm sure it just downscales everything to 480i. I bought my hdtv a few months before the Xbox 360 release so that I'd be ready for the "next generation" of video games. Plus, movies look supurb on blu-ray!

 » So...

I shouldn't have bought the 20gb, b/c you've gotta have the wifi of the 60gb to communicate with the PSP?

And yes, I wanted the 60gb, but I was #26 of 26 PS3s being sold at our Best Buy. Hey, at least I got one and I LOVE IT.

you can add wifi via usb and change the HD to any size, so you're not out of luck.

   Re: 2k1yellows2k - 2006-11-23
 » ok...

I already have a wifi access point in my house, so that's all I need? I just thought since the 60gb version had wifi built in that it would communicate directly with the psp instead of sending it to the router then to the psp. And no, I'm never going to upgrade my 1.50 fw. If I care that much, I'll buy another PSP for fw 3.00.

i don't get it. why would i want to play ps3 games, or whatever else, on my (relatively) tiny psp screen?

just to brag why else... or if you wanted to take your game with you when u have to use the bathroom lmao
   by matt (Unregistered) - 2006-11-21
 » clunky

This seems pretty clunky and un-user-friendly. Why not have the ps3 running a server for the psp to grab content off whenever the ps3 is in xmb view, rather than having to go select an option in the menu to sync them up every damn time. Seems as annoying as the controller syncing thing.

   Re: BULL3TPR00F - 2006-11-21

ye i agree, it should be continuously streaming content to the psp, like in the background or something, allowing you to do other stuff on the ps3.

I don't get why this is so cool.

Wow I can stream music and video from my PS3 to my PSP.

Why not just play it on the PS3 that your sitting within 30 feet of, most likely connect to a better TV and speakers.

   Re: Kutibah (Unregistered) - 2006-11-21
 » That's not the point

The point is that soon, Sony will let you use Remote Play worldwide from any access point. So while your PS3 is at home in the US, you can access it from Japan on your vacation via PSP +)

Re: Smiter (QJ. NET Staff) - 2006-11-21
 » Hey, SHUT UP

This is one feature that sealed the deal for me when deciding on a next gen console. So think about this, unless you have a big house or your room is in an adjoining building without plumbing, your bathroom is probably less than 30 feet away and therefore make this a useful function while on the crapper. ;)

   Re: ok (Unregistered) - 2006-11-22

here, what if your a poor bastard that can only afford a psp, a ps3 and enough for a movie, and a piece of bread, you would want to use your psp screen now eh...

No way am I giving up my emulators and such to play music from my PS3...on my PSP which is always in range...thats kinda retarded.

Whenever you can see game information, or use the PSP screen as a map for a game...or something cool like that, I may get another PSP and upgrade...until then. My SNES, NES, GBA, and Gensis 2.71 SE B is much cooler than a 3.00.

You CAN do that the ps3 has a web browser
   by xche78x - 2006-11-22
 » the point is

the point is you dont need to buy the highly priced and stupid location free player and just wait for it to be updated so it'll function properly, the funny though was i was about to ask if you can play the ps3 game using psp as controller and screen as well, i guess thats just too hard for the psp to handle for now.

   by anonymous (Unregistered) - 2006-11-22

you can enjoy music and videos while you're in the toilet. You cant be bringing your whole PS3 into the toilet, cant you ?
