Ó

PSP - Image 1We don't have to remind you how big the risk is when we deal with the PSP's flash memory. No matter how good you get, there's always that danger of damaging or bricking your beloved handheld.

Well, here's something to make you smile all day long: a group of homebrew developers who refer to themselves as Team tOc (The Oblivious Coders) dropped by our forums today and released the first version of their Flash1 Formatter. This one is quite complicated, but in simple terms, the program lets you recover from a corrupted flash1 ("Woot! Woot!" as the commenters say).

Before you use this application, please take note that it only works through recovery. If you try to run it through the XMB, you will witness your PSP freeze. So beware.

Also, Team tOc added that Flash1 Formatter will only work if "lflash_fatfmt.prx" is located in flash0:/kd. In the event that it is not, the program looks in ms0:/lflash_fatfmt.prx.

There are still a few important details to take note of, so be sure to READ through the README before you do anything. (You do that anyway for EVERY piece of software before you use it, don't you?)

Furthermore, installation and usage is quite easy. After placing the folder in the root of your memory stick, all you have to do is follow the simple steps below. By the way, Team tOc is composed of well known developers EvilSeph, Moca, TUW, Ahadiel and kando.

  1. Turn off your PSP
  2. Turn on your PSP while holding down R to boot into Recovery Mode.
  3. Scroll to "Run program at /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP" and press Cross.
  4. Press tOc (Triangle + Circle + Cross) to unlock the program [this is to force people to read this readme.txt]
  5. Read the on-screen instructions (can be found in the readme file).

 » SCREEN SHIELD

i have 1 of those scrren protectors!!! (well i had 1 untill i went on holiday and my friend sprayed sun cream onto it....it was that invisible waterproof stuff so it's full of wax and oil and wouldent clean off without making the protector non transparent)

anyway i got it from a friend (i swapped it for the psp stand you get with ur psp (he wanted the stand and i wanted the screen protector)

but anyway he got it from ebay i think! (pretty sure he did!!!!!

i just wanted it coz i like screen protectors that dont make ur psp to big so it can fit confortably in my pocket as it's supposed to!!!!!

dont know wh y i went and told you the whole story of the screen protector but hay! why not! summit to do!!!!!

hope u find 1, i wouldent mind a new 1 myself! but there r 1's just like that 1 but it doesn't stay flat againt the screen!! you lift it up and it's like a sun guard ut you put it dont when ur not playing it to protect the screen!! (my bro has 1) (may have to steel it)

p.s! great app (LOL) i have the fear of bricking my psp when formatting!!! (only flashed like 3 times (3.02 OEa ----> 3.02 OEb ----> 3.03 OEa)

Much'o appreciation on the great hombew people!!!!

(BIG THANKS)

» a recovery tool for the recovery console?

this seems useless... You need the recovery console first, which provides all the necessities to recover your PSP in the first place, then this just adds what, a recovery tool for the recovery tool?

This formats yours FLASH memory witch you loose a little of each time you flash a new firmware so in other words this just boosts ur performance and extands the life of your psp

"# Press tOc (Triangle + Circle + Cross) to unlock the program [this is to force people to read this readme.txt]"

Surely if you tell people this in the home-brew description it doesn't force people to read the read me, and defeats the object of doing it.

   Re: M-Lin (Unregistered) - 2007-01-19
 » yup

Ryan A that was really dumb to put that in the description

   Re: PurpleShadow (Unregistered) - 2007-01-19
 » Agreed.

Now it's only useful for people who read ONLY the title of the homebrew!

 » works....yo

nah this is a good recovery... for those Half bricked psps that wont turn on after a full power down.

I used it worked great...

 » Why?

What's the point with this app? If you get a corrupted flash1, the flash0 dumps clean files to flash1 anyway, so what's so special with this program? O_o

 » ...

I think I'll wait for a safer version to come out. I used X-flash a while back and it said I had used up around 19.0MB of my flash memory. This'll really be good if they make a Noob friendly one. I plan to extend the life of my PSP not screw up and brick it.

Good luck to the people who're going to try this out though

 » Safety?

I'm not sure what you mean by safer. We've tried to make this as safe as possible, but may have missed something.

Please provide more information and suggestions so that we can improve this program.

 » Yet again, why?

So what IS the point with this one? Is it QJ who have done a typo again? The flash 1 (one) memory doesn't need to be formatted, the flash 0 (zero) might need it. Flash one will be formatted when you reset default settings, but not flash zero.

   Re: EvilSeph - 2007-01-20
» QJ have not made a mistake.

Flash1 does NOT get formatted when you reset default settings. It only re-writes the registsry and removes (or tries to remove) the wallpaper.

QJ have not made a mistake.
