SCEE new Go!Explore feature for the PlayStation Portable is a powerful and fully functional Satellite Navigation system. In a partnership with TeleAtlas and NavNGo, the PSP is transformed into a state of the art GPS utility for in-car use or simple pedestrian walks.

The device offers 3D mapping that pinpoints various places of interest ranging from gas stations to restaurants. It even lets you plan out a route for you in advance, letting you "fly" over the city. In the demonstration featured here in the Leipzig Games Convention, the Go!Explore function is used to navigate from London's Houses of Parliament to Trafalgar Square. Check it out, it's pretty cool.

Unfortunately, like the PS3's PlayTV and the PSP video download service, this service is also, at least for now, exclusive to Europe.

Thanks to daspixel for uploading the demonstration in YouTube.

What does Go!Explore do that you can't already do with the software that presumably came with the GPS receiver?

Thats the point the GPS Receiver doesn't come with any software, and if it did it would be like a normal Sat Nav where you need different software for different countries, in other words it would come with Asian Maps and not EU/US maps.

Japanese and Euro only. I guess Sony feels USA is full of idiots who don't leave their house enough to find a portable TV or GPS useful... It's a shame. They will probably make it so it only works with the slim model too. Scr3w Sony.. I hate their

this makes me wonder, does the sony gps unit have some type of internal memory? or do these maps come on a non-update able UMD disk? roads do get added/removed/changed (even though google maps doesnt seem to update their roads very often)
