Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Image 1

For those of us looking to see just how our favorite next-gen titles did in terms of sales, then here's something that should enlighten you: Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Nintendo Wii is currently the best-selling title in the US, not only for the Nintendo Wii itself, but across all consoles. Yes, Masahiro Sakurai's epic of smashing and item-lobbing has sold that good in the US, and scoring second place after Wii Fit in Japan.

This report comes directly from Gamasutra's weekly column, Saling The World, where the top five sellers for every available platform in the US, Japan and Europe are gathered. This is through the computation gleaned from public sales information of Amazon.com and its regional sites. Pre-orders are disregarded from the final figures, of course.

I don't even own a Wii, and I seriously believe Super Smash Bros. Brawl is some of the most fun I have ever had. It's a huge improved over the Gamecube game (and even the N64 version). The ability to choose from so many characters, create your own levels -- even play online, is quite powerful. I love the presentation, especially the nostalgiac music. The only thing is that Sonic the Hedgehog leaves a lot be desired. Even his stage isn't great (basically just a small ramp with a spinning Checkpoint ball with the ground falling every so often). They should have at least included the loop-da-loop in the foreground instead of the background. It's kind of an insult to injury to the Sonic franchise. Not even the blue blur can get any love from Nintendo. Solid Snake got a hell of a lot more love.

But overall, definitely a game everyone needs to try at least once. If you haven't tried it yet, check out your local GameStop, where they have a demo station set up. I thought I was only a PS3/360 guy, but SSBB is making me definitely consider a Wii purchase, and that's powerful in and of itself.
