God of War: Chains of Olympus - Kratos with shield - Image 1

After dishing out some gameplay-related details straight from God of War II game director Cory Balrog, we're now releasing some in-game screenshots featuring God of Badass, err, War directly from the video game's developer, Ready At Dawn (courtesy of PlayFrance).

As you can see from the game's image above, Kratos now carries a shield to make up for the loss of his dodge moves (PSP doesn't have a right analog stick for it remember?). We're also treated to a menacing screenie of a Cyclop baddie wielding a wooden club thingie (God of War has been known for its creative use of Mythological characters and weaponries). Lastly, we're given a glimpse of how sick the graphics for the PSP version will be, and as a God of War follower myself, I have to admit this is almost of PS2 quality.

Anyway, God of War: Chains of Olympus will follow Kratos' dark path right after Ares chained him with the Blades of Chaos. As a soldier of Ares, Kratos is forced to do his bidding which usually had him waging the former God of War's battles. It should also give us a better grasp of the old Spartan general's struggles under the command of Ares, as well as how he coped up with the loss of his soul (it should be remembered that he asked Ares to make him a great warrior in exchange for his soul).

God of War: Chains of Olympus should hit video games' store shelves come November. That's pretty short in video gaming timetables (provided there are no delays), so we should be able to see the Ghost of Sparta combo'ing with his Blades of Chaos inside our PSPs in no time.

 » Wider and wider...

The PSP's screen is roughly 16:9.

The first screens of God of War: CoO were about 2:1.

And now these are, like, 3:1.

They keep getting wider and less PSP-resolution-y! Why?!

Ready at Dawn, you confuse me, and I'm still waiting on my Ratchet & Clank and GoW demos. =(

Because these are not PSP screenshots, that's why.

Why show a tiny, low resolution, aliased PSP screenshot when you can show a nicely rendered, fully antialiased, higher resolution development system screen?

These aren't as bad as the OTHER "PSP" God or War images that appeared on another gaming site. They were 800 x 453 pixels in size, over 2.75 times the size of a PSP's screen.

 » Sony Sucks!

If Sony would have given the PSP a better screen maybe we wouldnt be having this problem.

The PS2 can push 640x480 with some AA. The PSP is *more* powerfull and yet we get 480x272.

I think the fact that the PSP screen is 25ms basicly speaks for itself and for how much Sony cares about the PSP and about its fans giving us a screen that was NEVER MEANT TO EVEN PLAY MOVIES!!

" If Sony would have given the PSP a better screen maybe we wouldnt be having this problem."

The problem here isn't the PSP's screen, but publishers showing off "PSP screenshots" that clearly aren't from the PSP.

"The PS2 can push 640x480 with some AA. The PSP is *more* powerfull and yet we get 480x272."

I don't know where you get this information, but I have doubts the PSP is more powerful than the PS2. Even pushing fewer pixels, the PSP exhibits slowdown during complex scenes.

I can't can't find a pixel refresh rate listed for the PSP screen anywhere, but if is 25ms, that is good for 40fps without ghosting. Since movies are shot at 24fps, I see no problem. Even video at 30fps works fine.

also to add to that guys comment the ps2 cannot do AA they have certain effects to blur the image to hide jagged edges but havent you realised every ps2 game has jagged edges absolutely everywhere lol

actually, i think psp games run at a higher resolution on average, compared to ps2.

ps2 has a minimum resolution of 256x224, and when it was released, i don't think many games were released with 480i/p capability.

but then again, i could be wrong. *shrug*

You will NEVER see any PSP game that has the SAME graphics as a PS2 game...

 » Dont hate Good Devs..

Just cause they are bigger than psp screen rez, it clearly shows how good a PSP game can be when developed by a great Developing team such as READY AT DAWN.They have proven themselves with Daxter on the PSP yet ppls will question their GoW Work?Please....
