PSPX48 - Image 1PSP homebrew developer zx-81 is at it again, coming in this time with an update for the HP48 calculator emulator on Sony's handheld. PSPX48 version 1.1.0 is packed with convenient bug fixes and added compatibility for the latest firmwares.

PSPX48, which gives you access to an HP48 calculator without actually buying one, was released more than a year ago to the delight of everyone who wanted to make their PSP more useful. This version maintains all the refinements done on the homebrew app, but is now compatible with FW 3.xx. Here's the changelog:
  • Now compatible with custom firmwares 3.x and PSP-slim
  • Bug fix and code cleaning
  • New help menu
For instructions on how to make PSPX48 v1.1.0 work, just check out the Readme file that has everything you need to know.

If there was any doubt in the minds of the people that ZX-81 was the most hard-working homebrew developer, it can be squashed now. Because you see, ZX81 has released updates to three emulators in a span of a few hours! The emulators in question are PSPZX81, Sinclair ZX 81 emulator; PSPXTI, a TI-92 calculator emulator; and PSPX48, an HP48 calculator emulator.

Here's what's new in each of them:

PSPX48PSPX48 v1.0.6 (HP48 calculator emulator):
  • Save state is now done using zlib so ram file size is smaller and as a consequence, it is much faster to save.
  • Bug fix (may display strange characters in the emulator menu)
ZX81 says that Hewlett Packard started allowing HP48 BIOSes to be downloaded off the net sometime in 2000. Although they're needed, ZX81 won't be offering them with his package since they're not GPL licensed.

PSPXTIPSPXTI v1.0.8 (TI-92 Calculator emulator):
  • Save state is now done using zlib so ram file size is smaller and as a consequence, it is much faster to save.
  • Bug fix (may display strange characters in the emulator menu)
In the case of this emulator, you need to own a real TI92 calculator if you want to download its BIOS. Two versions are included, one for FW 1.5 and one for 2.XX.

PSPZX81PSPZX81 v1.0.2 (Sinclair ZX 81 emulator):
  • Add speed limiter option
  • Add background change color option
  • Add .81 as a valid program file extension
Manuals or documentation for the ZX 81 can be downloaded from here.

As always, all three of these emulators have been released under the GPL license, so the source code is bundled. Below are the download links for all three of them.

PSPX48

Zx-81 from our forums has just updated his HP48 Calculator Emulator for the PSP. It emulates a pretty expensive calculator on your PSP for free. What has changed since the PSPX48 v1.0.4? According to Zx:
  • Add new beautiful icons and background designed by Jer666
  • New user interface with menus and useful options
  • Display battery usage
  • Add Help window with all PSP shortkeys
  • Save configuration file option
  • Screenshot image option
  • PNG images instead of BMP (smaller images)
  • Toogle between analog and digital pad option
  • New keyboard handler and new mapping
You will need to get the HP 48GX Revision K ROM from hpcalc.org. We can't host that file, but it's easy to get from there (look for the link below). For those who need it, there's a user's guide for the HP48 (it is a PDF file so you will need Adobe Acrobat or something similar). Zx also has a way for you to add two more slots of memory to your HP48 (again, look for the links below).

HP48 Calculator Emulatorzx-81 from our forums has just updated his HP48 Calculator Emulator for the PSP. For those who don't know, it emulates a pretty expensive calculator on your PSP for free.

Here's what's new in v1.0.4 :
  • Load external application or game files and libraries (With .48 and .lib file extentions)
  • Hardware reset of the HP48 (Inside the application file selector window)

You need the HP48 BIOS to run it. He hasn't distributed it with the application because it's not GNU. We have given a link below where you can find it.

As always, this latest version is also GPL. So you're free to have a look at the source code and modify it to your liking. Be sure to check out the readme since it mentions a lot of features which might be very useful.

HP48 Calculator Emulatorzx-81 has just released an update to his HP48 Calculator Emulator. Although there isn't any major change, this release fixes a bug which resulted in the PSP freezing up on 2.0 firmwares. The source has been included along with the 1.5 and 2.0 version. Here's what zx-81 had to say:

Here is a new release of the HP48 emulator for PSP.

There is no major change, only a bug fix for FW 2.0, so there is no need to update/download only if it wasn't working before on your PSP. CousinWeb gave me his PSP today with a FW 2.0 and i've fixed the bug that froze PSPX48 at startup (Many thanks to him !)

As always, the package is under GPL Copyright and sources are included.
As PSPXTI v1.0.4, for me this is the final release, i won't work any more on this homebrew (only if major bugs are found).

Zx81 has updated his PSPXTI to version 1.0.4. PSPXTI is a PSP port of XTiger emulator of TI-92 calculator, which originally runs under X windows in UNIX. This emulator works on 2.50 with the eLoader, and should be working fine under v1.50 PSP too. Here is the message from the author on this version:

Hi All,

I've just released the version 1.0.4 of the PSP TI-92 calculator.

We can now toggle between classical skin and aqua skin inside the emulator! Some minor bugs have been fixed in the keyboard handler, and it should be more stable now. This version works with 2.xFW. and 1.5FW.

Thanks for the email heads-up, Ryu!

Zx81 has updated his PSPXTI to version 1.0.3. PSPXTI is a PSP port of XTiger emulator of TI-92 calculator, which originally runs under X windows in UNIX. This emulator works on 2.50 with the eLoader, and should be working fine under v1.50 PSP too. Here is the message from the author on this version:

I've just released a new version of the PSP TI-92 calculator. It works now with TI-92+ v1.1 ROM!
A reset function has been added in the "application file selector window" in order to reset the emulator (but loosing all data in memory).

PedRom, a TI-92 ROM under GNU license, is now included in this package. This ROM is only useful to do basic operations and its capabilities can't be compared to the TI ones.

I've tested this version only with 2.5FW. Nevertheless a 1.5FW version tested by SubZero is also available in this archive.

As always sources are included. I've just released a new version of the PSP TI-92 calculator. We can now load basic and ASM programs (.92x files) directly in this emulator.

Zx-81 has updated his PSPX48 emulator to version 1.0.1. PSPX48 is a ported version of Eddie C. Dost's X48, an UNIX emulator (under X Window) of the HP48 GX calculator, written in C language. The current version of PSPX48 was ported from v0.4.0 of the X48 using PSPSDK. Source code is also included. Zx-81 suggested that the HP48 BIOS is now legal to download. You will need it to run the emulator (hint: Google).

The key mapping has been improved in this release, and the eboot for 1.50 has been added.
