We don't hear a lot of updates regarding the Metal Gear Solid movie (there's a movie?), so I figured fans would appreciate hearing this bit of news. During the Spike VGA Awards, someone caught Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima for an interview, quickly grilling him for some details on the movie.

With translator at hand, Kojima said that the movie is "brewing, and it's moving very slowly." Considering how we first heard of the movie back in 2006, and how nothing much happened production side till today, I'd say "slowly" is pretty accurate.

Good news for fans though, Kojima says that he intends to be very involved with the project. Explains the translator: "obviously he's not going to be in the director's seat, but he will be very, very involved with the project." Kojima is also considering a video game tie-in release with the movie, so you can at least rest easy knowing that the franchise won't go the way of Dragonball. Here's the interview so you can watch for yourselves:

This movie will suck. The games are cool but the story is whack. MGS4 story was lame, the whole series was lame (I'm talking about the story here NOT game play.) Everyone rides hideo's nuts saying how good the story is? I just don't get it. Screw the 30 minute cut scenes. Honestly if MGS4 was a movie it would get half to one star.

» What are you talking about?

The storyline is the only thing good in the MGS games. The gameplay is terrible.

if one could not wrap their head around the premise of the story.
sorry, pal... you cant win this one.
cause I for one think your statement is backwards.
the story is very in depth and well written.
and those who cannot see that... prolly had a very hard time understanding it.

 » nope hes right

I understood the story completely after reading the metal gear encyclopedia thing on the psn.

Its very deep and well written, but that doesnt make it good. People who finally understand or just hear it find it so complex that they are tricked into believing its good. A good story is something that's simple to understand (though not TOO simple), makes you empathize with the character, and has a good ending.

MGS4 was just too complicated. I literally fell asleep during one of those cutscenes. And the story has so many tangents that I ended up not giving a sh*t about Snake for a long while (until the dramatic ending). And the actual ending? HA. It was just terrible. I was on the edge of my seat with jaw wide open when snake shot himself. Then that cutscene with snake surviving (so where did the bullet go?) and big boss back alive (only to die again) and zero in the wheelchair just RUINED it. And of course, another one of those stupid talks about the AI put me to sleep.

Gameplay though was excellent.

snake never shot himself at the end, big boss shot the patriot which stopped snake from killing himself.

 » Story,

So the *random fps, survival horror* has a good "story"?
Random shooting/killing enemies makes a good game?
Because of it's not too simple story line
(GTA series, SilentHill/Resident Evil, Call of Duty, Medal of Honor)

In GTA you just random kill some gangsters... SH/RE kill all the mutated ultra insects/superhumans to complete the game...
CoD/MoH just shoot talk later...
there are too many games to name with a not too simple story line that makes soooo much sense. e.g. Need for Speed underground to undercover... You race for shiiit and respect or playing some undercover cop.. WOW AWESOME UNDERCOVER FBI 'NAM SAYING...

How about talking shiiiit...

 » Cool,

i hope it won't turn into some kind of 'evolution' or something that doesn't have anything to do with the game at all.

 » are you mad????

mgs4 is the best game ever made! how can u say the story OR gameplay is bad?
it got 10/10 on everything on ign, one of the best scores ever.
the movie will also be great! obvisouly!

I hope the movie will be great, but there has been plenty of failed attempts at making movies based off video games.

Well, Kojima's workin' on this, so it'll most likely be good.

So... Metal Gear Solid the Game of the Movie of the Game.

 » uhmm..

I saw this coming. Ok let's say everyone wants a GTA movie...I betcha what the story is gonna be.Killing and more random killing - so that's simple to understand. Now lots of ppl complain and says the movie will suck just because they played the game and never actually understood what their goal was in the first place. Never tie everything up to get an understanding of the main topic. Now that's "Lame" - If you cannot understand plain logic and track of events then keep playing GTA and Undercover because MGS series are just too complicated for the 1/4-brained.
