Nanodesktop

Homebrew developer pegasus2000 dropped by QJ.NET PSP Development Forums and pointed us towards a demo for the next build of application Nanodesktop. This particular program provides coders routines for graphics, loading and saving of images, memory management, as well as mouse emulation. This particular demo focuses on Nanodesktop's networking capabilities. According to pegasus2000, the program is able to connect to a website and download a file through command line tools cURL and GcURL. It should be remembered that a separate demo for the program was released recently with focus given on voice synthesizing features. Some members of our forums shared that even though that this is just a test version, the networking capability of Nanodesktop is already working excellently. If you are quite unsure how to use this program, we suggest you refer to the forum link below to discuss it with other users. Download Nanodesktop network demo Visit: QJ PSP Development Forum |

PlayStation Portable homebrew developer califrag seems to have something good going on; after skyPSP which can turn your PSP into an actual webcam, comes an app that lets your handheld recognize a laser pointer's movements. The concept is still fresh, but just imagine what eyePSP can do in the near future.
With the help of a Chotto Shot or GoCam, eyePSP can read movements of a projected laser pointer and allow the PSP screen to display what's going on. There's only a demo as of now, but it would be pretty cool to have games controlled by the laser's movements. You can find eyePSP in action by watching the video below, or try it out yourself by grabbing the demo. Might as well visit the thread where califrag made the release, because discussions of eyePSP's future can be found there. Download: eyePSP demo |

The NeoFlash team has just released a demo program for their new PSP accessory, the PSP Motion Kit. For those of you who missed the release of the accessory, the PSP Motion Kit, as the name suggests, allows the device to become motion sensitive. While it doesn't work with any retail games as of yet, nothing's stopping the homebrew scene from developing games and apps for the accessory. The new demo program from the NeoFlash team should give development a jumpstart. The source code for the program is also provided and can be downloaded below. Chaos-Gamerz

Knight Legend, from Chaos-Gamerz, has just released the latest iteration of an evolving PSP game called World of Chaos. World of Chaos was first announced several months ago and since then has been working on the game, and a very early build has just recently been released. We missed the first release of this game, however we are here to cover this one - slightly better than the previous. For those unaware of the game you play Knight Legend himself (appearing as our favorite Zelda character, Link). You can navigate Knight around the screen and attack, that's pretty much it for now. Apart from the previous public beta, this build has improved on the sprite's movement and features a new menu. The game isn't much right now, however the author has some high goals with this game series he is creating. I was personally stunned by this game, mainly for one reason - no copyright infringement. In the past we have seen several games use copyrighted sprites and names, however this game does not fall into this category. The author uses legal sprites (Public Domain) and we hope that other inspiring developers do the same so no one has to play "police". With that said, enjoy this very early build of a long-awaited game! Download: World of Chaos: Chap 1 - Public Beta v4.5 Discuss: PSP Development Forum |

PSP homebrew developer charnold, who is known for his work on the homebrew PSP Dungeons, has come out with a rather impressive tech demo of his Dungeons Engine 2. The PSP Gallery Demo shows off the improvements that were made to the engine such as the rendering of colored lightmaps and more complex 3D objects (as compared to the original build). The demo is pretty sweet and allows you to walk around a virtual gallery. The textures, renders, and lighting look professionally done, the question is how was it done? The developer gave word that the lightmapped polygons are rendered in two passes or more, each with a different texture. There can be more depending on the image being rendered such as graffiti or glowing lights. So download the program and try it out. Charnold has stated that this engine might even be developed into a game in the future, which is something that you might want to look out for. PSP homebrew developer NoRiGoLo dropped dropped by the QJ.NET Forums earlier to let the community in on an interesting project just waiting to viewed, dubbed Recession Maxidemo. This production is neither a game nor an application, but rather is a PSP-based demoscene. A demoscene, for the guys asking, is a computer art subculture that involves creating non-interactive light-and-sound productions that are run real-time on a computer. It was a very popular trend among Amstrad CPC, Atari ST or Amiga systems back in the early to mid-90s, with Recession Maxidemo here meant to be something of a revival of that era. This demo has been confirmed to work on PSPs running on custom firmware 3.40 OE - just load it to your game folder as you would with most other homebrew applications and games, and enjoy the show. Of course, we also invite readers to drop by NoRiGoLo's thread over at the PSP Dev forums here at QJ.NET in case they want to discuss this release. Homebrew developer Lejournal released a new demo for his upcoming project that is as good and as dainty as his previous release Chocobo Run v0.1. The project is known as TamaSky and is inspired by the 90s craze Tamagotchi. Here, players adopt a virtual pet which they must nourish, feed, and clean.
TamaSky Demo v0.0 still has limited features but even so, it is very playable and as good as a full homebrew release. Some of those worth mentioning include (the list was translated from French using an online translator):

A couple of days ago, homebrew coder ufo_z came up with the unofficial demo version of the video game Cave Story. We say unofficial because Variant Interactive last year mentioned that it is planning to port this freeware PC sidescrolling adventure title to the PlayStation Portable. Despite that, we think that ufo_z's take on the project somewhat holds more water as the developer has gotten the approval of Cave Story owner Daisuke Amaya (Pixel). Anyway, this is the second demo released and a lot of improvements have been implemented since the last version. ufo_z wasn't able to include a changelog for Cave Story PSP Release Candidate 1 but the following reminders were provided:
