PSP homebrew developer Mathieulh tipped us off today to let us know that a new Popsloader binary with full support for building multi-disc PSone EBOOTs is due for release soon. Essentially, this means that when converting multi-disc PSone games for use with custom firmware on the PSP, users will be able to store and compress all the data into one EBOOT file, rather than building a separate EBOOT file for each disc. |

Metal Gear Solid here we come!
I thought Malhiuleth (or whatever the spelling is... too lazy to scroll up) WAS dark alex? I mean, isn't mahlateuth his m33 codename? That's what my pandora kit tells me...

But what about memory stick size? I can fit two disks fine, but if I have an eboot of all three disks of FF7, that's going to get kinda big. I would prefer converting each disk individually, then choosing which one is loaded via a menu within the emulator. Just a simple "disk swap" would suffice.
Then this program is not for you. It's for those that do want their multi-disc games in one eboot so that they do not have to switch between them.
Final Fantasy doesn't need all discs in one EBOOT. It let's you save before the next disc is due.
Final Fantasy VII won't be that big, the files are the same for all discs, the only difference was the inclusion of fmv videos on the other discs. This would actually save room on games like that and I'm sure there were a lot of others beside the Final Fantasy games.
... no more ePSXe between game discs... YES!
About pholly's comment, he's probably right as the fmvs and soundtrack maybe, and some other things are probably the only different things on each disc.
Go! guys Go!
You are truly masters of your art. I want to have your babies. JK. But really I truly appreciate your effort. Thank you so much!
Iirc, the maximum number of game discs for PSOne is four (Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy IX, etc). Assuming 700MB per disc, no compression and redundant files, the game would still fit in a 4GB memory stick, with 1GB left over.
If you take into account that game discs are usually much less than 700MB, factor in compression and get rid of redundant files, you could probably strip 4-disc FMV-intense games down to less than 2GB.
Whichever way this gets implemented, it's a welcome development. One that I'm very much looking forward to.
this articles only applies to 2 games series:
Legend of Dragoon
Final Fantasy
:P
Dark_AleX, you the man!
actualy theres more than 2, heres just a few you forgot: syphon filter 2, driver 2, and a few others with 2 or more discs besides ff and lod buddy, so it applies to all
another one would be abe's odd world odyssey
I hope the master DAX can sort some compatability with some PSX games.
I was dieing to play again like, Star Wars The Phantom Menace.
Trying to get it work for well over a year now and still no joy, or has any boady has any surgestions?
Though I can see how I would prefer it, this is likely the best method for multi-disk games that don't save at the end of disks.
Can DAX put his legendary skills up to the test to make Brave Fencer Musashi and Parasite Eve 2 finally work? Lets find out on the next episode of DAX and Hacks.
That's really more Sony's job. :P Sure, DaX MAY be able to do that, but if I were him, I honestly wouldn't want to waste my time to do what Sony already is. XD
Well, DAX should understand that its pretty bullsh*t that we have to pay for games in PSP format when we already own the games, its just a matter of making it work when converted. I like my copy of Parasite Eve 2, but I don't want to buy another one for the PSP when I could just convert it myself.
It's not alex' job to increase game compatibility with sony's PSX emulator, I reckon..
On a sidenote: could you please STOP clicking on the old news like the 1.50 or 3.52 Firmware. It's pretty annoying that
these oldish news are on the top.
ThAnK YoU!!!
It's not DAXs job to do that, but, helping the homebrew scene in such a way would help us out alot. We all are having issues with several games being compatible with pops, DAX must know this, because we all know this.
And plus, none of this is DAXs job. He could have quit the homebrew scene a long time ago if he wanted, I would have understood.
i dont think it will be simple to make it work + who would actully wanna play any ps1 games on psp anyways its lackin the other analog stick and besides they will look whack compared to todays games lol Dark alex is just killing time but hey who can blame him for not having a life?
I hope your not talking about Dax!
with out him none of this is posible: and I think that anyboady shows disrespect to the master should be banned. or tared and fheathered!
Seriously you better watch your damn mouth when talking about the messiah of practically all that is good about the PSP. U probably bricked ur psp trying to install one of his self installing custom firmwares you retarded mother *****er.
WHAT RIGHT HAVE YOU GOING ON ABOUT DAX'S WORK BEING USELESS? HUH?!?!?!?!? HAVE YOU DONE ANYTHING LIKE M33 OR OE AND SUCH? COME ON! I DONT THINK YOU HAVE COME BACK HERE AND SHOW ME WHAT YOUVE MADE AND HOW MANY PPLZ USE IT THEN MAYBE !MAYBE! ILL APOLOGIZE BUT TILL THEN SHUT THE HELL UP!!!! DAX RULES
i just hate it when people do that crap and rip on others work
Lol. I love how forums can turn into flaming posts when just a little bit of gas is poured on it. But yeah, you guys are right, DAX has made the PSP to what it is at least a 40% of it vs Sony's 60%. DAX is the man, and I am sure he can make anything work, but believers like us also put alot of pressure on him to keep creating work, and on top of that, excellent work.
