Team Vertex Origin is hard at work on its homebrew racing game Vertex Racing, and thanks to a translation from Maxime on our forums, we were actually able to find out more about the game's current status, as well as its direction for the future.

According to Maxime's post, Vertex Racing is doing rather well. The intro and menus are done, and graphics ameliorations also seem to have been done as well. For most of us who don't understand technical terms though, perhaps the more important update is that the infrastructure multiplayer code is almost finished.

The game will also contain multiple modes. In this case, there's a time trial solo mode which will give you high scores on the tracks depending on how fast you get through the course. More importantly, the finished version of the game will contain infrastructure and ad hoc multiplayer modes, allowing for up to 4 people to play at the same time.

In any case, while Team Vertex Origin is hard at work on their project, let's cheer them on. Watch the video below so you know how they're doing, and send them some words of encouragement through our forums. Enjoy the vid, and watch out for more info on Team Vertex Origin's Vertex Racing.

Looks like there are no physics at all.. just a box on a road :)

   Re: wikiih (Unregistered) - 2007-07-18
 » no problem

It's a little huge step for homebrew game development. Try comparing tetris with this game for example. There is maybe a small amount of physics, yet, but awesome car details compensate for that absense.

 » I agreewith wikiih

The physics will come, that level of graphics impresses me quite a bit for a homebrew game. With the physics in place, this game seems like it would be equal to some of the professional.

 » seriously

gfx are not the only thing that make a game if their arn't any physics and like johnny just pointed out it's like a box on a road

WHAT BOX?...IT WAS CLEARLY A CAR

They were talking about the physics, not the car model.

Well they have sorted out the magnetic ground so cars have air time now.

I'm sure they will implement propper physics at a later stage, at the moment it looks amazing. keep it coming

That's exactly what i was thinking lol

SAME HERE!! Btw, awsome game! First, we got a space shooter (no gravity), then a puzzle of some sort (Ozone), then the next top homebrew games is this!

 » very nice

this half way looks like a first gen psp title... which is damn high praise as far as in concerned... tweak the car handling, add some shadowing and some detail around the track, and its rivaling some of the stuff professional game developers are releasing.

 » Nice Work

it sure isnt as nice as GT4 but well i like the kind of "oldish" look of the missing physics, it reminds me of the old need for speed series on the PSOne god i had so much fun with this game, keep up the good work, i'm looking forward to having this awesome homebrew on my psp!

   Re: Sylar (Unregistered) - 2007-07-18
 » Totally agree

Also, other than the physics, I wouldlike to see the camera following the car properly when turning. In the video the camera view does not change at all during the turnings.
On top of that cars can change trayectory while "flying" which is not very real. Other than that the game looks quite promising (specially considering the Ad-Hoc and infraestructure capabilities +8-o)

» Lot of things to improve

Hello guys !

Physics engine basics are inplemented (home made) but i still have to configure it and improve it ... it is at a very very very basic stage (as the drifts and cams).

I've not the time i would like on it ... it is in progress .. slowly ... but i'm trying to perfectly code the homebrew basis and structure to prevent me becoming mad ;)

i'm actually essentially working on physics engine and multiplayer ...
We still need 3D modelers ... if you're interested : mikemax(AT)vertexorigin.net

Stay tuned ! :)

i think there should be a way to either modify the track or make a new one.
