PlayStation Portable homebrew news - Image 1

A little over a week ago, we saw Dark AleX unveil a new build for his CFW 3.71 M33-3 + PopsLoader. Recent developments may have led some to believe that the intrepid PlayStation Portable homebrew hero is slowing down. Mathieulh begs to differ.

According to the developer, M33 is still alive and kicking with DAX still at the helm and not planning to give up anytime soon. Here's a snippet of Mathieulh's post on LAN.ST:

Not quite a surprise but I rather make it official, after much reflexion Alex decided to go on with the M33 project, although you should not expect as regular updates as there used to be, for instance the M33 will be updated to future kernels only when believed necessary, thus no 3.72M33 planned (we are waiting on future official firmwares and keep improving M33's features from now on.)

There you have it folks. It looks like DAX has decided to stay in the scene, or at least for the time being. Let's all be patient and wait for future releases from Dark_AleX. As of now, they (M33) are open to suggestions for improvement. Also, Mathieulh invites interested coders who want to devote some of their time with M33 to email. Stay tuned for more info and news about this.

What'd I say?! All of you believed him when he said he was going to retire forever after releasing the 1.50 kernel... Of course, seeing the trend that he had laid forth previously (he's "retired permenantly" 6 times now!), I knew he was kidding. Thus, as long as he's not sued, he'll keep making releases. Either that, or if he becomes a DS fanboy ;P

Anyhow, about the brownflamez spam, why don't you guys at QJ just put a filter on the word ccrate? That way, all we see is "xrl.us/******", and he'll eventually make a new webpage (which'll take a LOT more effort than simply making another filter for his new website).

Anyhow, with that being said, check out this guy. He's reduced his prices for some reason. If you guys want to join the homebrew scene but have no other means of doing (i.e. if you don't have a homebrew compatible PSP available to make the battery), go to

http://stores.ebay.com/psp-unbricker

Tell him youarepwned sent you! He's seriously reduced his prices drastically. Must be the "spirit of the holidays" or something :P

 » 3.72 IS Essential...

...for those of us with a PS3 waiting to unlock the true remote capabilities of the system. AFAIK 3.72 is required to power the PS3 on/off remotely from a PSP, a very handy feature! Come on DAX!

   Re: iamback(unregistered) - 2007-11-19
 » ...

Um... ok, here's a tip:

If you need to turn off your PSP, hit that little Standby switch. It's a LOT easier than using your PSP to turn it off...

   Re: mrblack - 2007-11-19
 » Wow REALLY?!~

Reading Comprehension > You... Thank you for your mindless response.

FW 3.72 for the PSP is REQUIRED to remotely turn a "PS3" on and off...

i.e. with this capability I'd be able to access my PS3 while it's safely tucked away in its entertainment center while away from home with my PSP.

In doing so I'd have access to my entire 100GB+ music collection, or 80 Gigs of Movies/TV on demand, or even remotely play games that utilize the remote play function like LAIR.

Currently 3.71 is only able to remotely access an already powered on PS3, but is not able to turn it on and off via the internet.

Like I'm going to leave that spendy power hog of a system on while I'm gone on a trip for a week or even while I'm just gone for the weekend.

   Re: SCLakitu - 2007-11-19
 » Using 3.72 remote play in 3.71

You can dump the 3.72 remote play PRXs with PSARDumper and install them in 3.71 M33-3, so there is no need to make a 3.72 M33.

   Re: SCLakitu - 2007-11-19
 » Whoops, forgot instructions.

Use the new psardumper from dark-alex.org to dump the 3.72 firmware files from the 3.72 update EBOOT, and you should be able to replace the flash0:/vsh/module/premo_plugin.prx and flash0:/vsh/resource/premo_plugin.rco from 3.71 M33 with the 3.72 equivalent.

Then, whenever you access remote play, it starts the 3.72 version of it rather than the 3.71 version.

   Re: iamback(unregistered) - 2007-11-19
 » lol

Ok, my bad. I didn't realize you use it to "stream" music and stuff to your PSP. And to play LAIR. I assumed you just wanted to use the ability to turn it on/off randomly. I was just saying that if you wanted simply turn the PS3 on/off (which, granted, is exactly what you said in your original post...), I just said that you might as well as just hit the on/off button manually. I thought that you were going to use "ad hoc" mode to send a KILL signal to your PS3 to turn it off, much like how you use a regular IR remote, which is relatively pointless. I didn't realize you were referring to the word "remote" in the sense of "go to my pc" software type remotely. (I believe that last sentence I wrote is horrifically skewed grammatically).

 » Remote Start

Uh.. you can already make the remote start feature work on 3.71 M33 by copying two PRX files from 3.72 ... Do a search.

"3.72 IS Essential..."

Not widely essential. I'm probably not far off base when I say the vast majority of us don't have PS3. Alex would be releasing 3.72 M33 for a minority if he were to relase it.

   Re: mrblack - 2007-11-19
 » Dude..

We all are part of the minority... Very few PSP owners out of the whole know how to manipulate system firmware to be able to run homebrew etc... To single me out as the minority in this case would be simply unjust.

   Re: iamback(unregistered) - 2007-11-19
 » minority

agreed,we are all minorities. Example: I have not applied a single "custom" thing to my PSP, besides the firmware... All the settings are stock. There's no background, and no settings have been messed with (such as gameboot files/coldboot files/icon changes)... I bet about 89% of the homebrew population gets custom firmware just for that. Also, I don't use ISOs (much). Rather, my PSP is a replacement for my imaginary Sega Nomad :P So ya, it's safe to say I'm a minority too. It's funny.... I've done all this upgrading to my PSP when I can simply live with the original 1.50 firmware. OH well :P

Sure it's kinda cool the first time ("Hey I turned off my PS3 with my PSP. I'm a leet h4xx0r now!"), but after the 3rd time it gets old.

But I AM a leet h4xx0r! Today, I managed to enter "recovery mode" and I changed my kernel from 3.71 to 1.50! If that's not leet, then I don't know what is!!! (rofl)

No, but seriously, I'll admit it... On a scale from 1-10, I believe my "1337" skills in the PSP world is a mere 4. Mainly because I still don't know how to code "hello world". Ya, I know... NOOB!!!

3.72 M33 is not necessary.

I knew DAX wouldnt quit, but an official announcement is cool. Thanks QJ.

goes to show how much you know...nothing.
mrblack was talking about remote play with PSP in wifi enabled coffee bars or internet lounges and other wifi hotspots
before you had to leave you're ps3 on, but now you can switch ps3 on and off using psp
meaning from the coffee bar you can turn your ps3 on and access your music, movies and games using your PSP
