Fanjita interviewed - Image 1Looks like IGN is getting in on the "Interview Fanjita" craze with... guess what? A interview with Fanjita!

This Fanjita interview covers the future of the PSP as discussed by Fanjita and the IGN crew, and focuses on where the PSP may be headed in the coming months. He also talks about the potential for growth beyond "the production of 100 clones of POPstation GUIs, or XMB skin themes."

Other important tidbits: his speculation as to why Sony's hesitant to adopt a more pro-homebrew stance in its corporate image, as well as the lack of a controlled homebrew initiative. Of course, there's also the usual talk about homebrew and how,as a judge for certain homebrew competitions, he's found the potential for great growth in some well-made homebrew games.

In any case, there's definitely something for every homebrew fan in IGN's coverage. Let us know what you think of Fanjita below, alright?

Thanks to Uhn for the heads-up!

from a developer interview:
http://psp.ign.com/articles/775/775304p2.html

"What has been disappointing from a developer perspective is that, despite strong hardware sales worldwide, software sales have been flat. There are arguably a number of reasons contributing to this, but in my opinion one of the key issues is piracy.

The ability to run pirated PSP software without any kind of hardware modification is a definite weakness of the system right now, and one being exploited by hundreds of thousands of gamers if Torrent traffic of pirated PSP software is anything to go by. Its a weakness that Sony may never be able to fully resolve, but action is definitely necessary to ensure the long term commercial viability of the platform.

In the mean time, all I can do is ask that gamers support the companies that make the games they play by purchasing their games legitimately."

Why didn't you throw in your usual "DS is better" comments like you usually try to s***** feed the people here?
Maybe you're finally taking a hint.

yo, jin, what did you type in? It got filtered was it the word s p o o n? Hmm, let me try: s*****

if anything should be filtered, it should be the words "first" and "post"... he he, I'm just kidding, rock on first posters!

   Re: Jin (Unregistered) - 2007-03-24

Why would they filter that word? Also, nice hint about the "first post" filtering, that was good.

   Re: Harp (Unregistered) - 2007-03-24
 » piracy?

Sure there's a lot of piracy but you'll notice that "good" titles normally get lots of sales. Why don't they ask Sony to reduce the price on games instead of ripping us off. I've bought 6 full price games for the PSP so far, I think thats enough of a contribution from me to the platform. Make some more games I wanna play and I might consider buying them.

here is another hint you should take:
http://psp.ign.com/articles/775/775306p1.html

"::' Mercury has since flowed onto PS2 and now Wii. Where does PSP now fit into Ignition's development plans for future Mercury games or other titles?'

We, like pretty much everyone else, feel the PSP needs a lift. I'm sure we will continue to support it in some shape or form but I think our days of making it the lead platform for a title are behind us. "

PSP is already the best gaming/multimedia portable console.

With some homebrew we are able to enjoy most video and audio formats and even control/see/access our PC.

It just lacks keyboard/mouse support and better office apps (only PDF is supported now). It has the perfect hardware for... everything! Wifi, big screen, 333MHz fast chip, tones of memory on the MS, etc.

If I had a mouse, keyboard, DOC/XLS/PPT reader and word editor, (real) MSN and better web broswer (everything possible!) I would never think again on smartphones or PDAs!

Thanks to all of you pirates the Psp is already dead and Sony are done for. I hope all of you are proud of yourselves, you should all listen to ''Strangler'', he definately knows what he is talking about and I suspect he has had imense industry experience, if there were more people like him, maybe the Psp would be a huge success. It is obvious he always purchases his games, music, software and never downloads anything unlike you guys.

The games aren't even worth pirating. That's the problem!

SONY STOP BLAMING PIRATES. It's bad, yes but there's more to it than people stealing games. The games suck.

Look at the Metal Gear game selling like Nintendo's games. Why is that? Because it's awesome.

   Re: ... (Unregistered) - 2007-03-24
 » wha?

They're not worth pirating?...and yet people still pirate them... Hmm...obviously worth pirating to many people, and if someone willing to illegally download a game, they want to play it...and therefore should pay for it. I buy all of my games myself, up to 50 UMD games and still going. The PSP games are more than worth it, we just live in a world full of lazy, crime driven people with no morals.

   Re: ... (Unregistered) - 2007-03-24
 » ...

Oh, and Sony is a very moral, all around great company, who really cares about the consumer and not just about money.

The games are worth pirating but not $40! You can just go get a regualr console game...

   Re: ... (Unregistered) - 2007-03-24

I agree. I've downloaded my fair share of PSP ISOs. Guess where 90% of them go? The trash can. Its better than buying a game for $30 and finding out its garbage. Its best to download them first then find out if they're garbage. I've sold all of my PSP games except for MGSPO. Its the only one I even like. I mostly use my PSP for my PS1 games, NES, SNES, GBA and TG16. I guess Sony isn't really making a dime from me.

The PSP is incredible for its graphics and capabilities. But the ONLY thing good that has come out of it isn't even from Sony. The PSP sucks, only 3-4 of it's games are really good.
   by DJ (Unregistered) - 2007-03-24
 » I agree

"Guess where 90% of them go? The trash can." Other than the fact that no one in my town (and from a majority of video stores I assume) you cannot rent PSP games but from the ones that I've played only Madden and Ratchet and Clank translate into good games. I'm using it mostly for PS1 and SNES games that I own.

The console is the best and only has a couple setbacks (primarily in my opinion a faster LCD rate like 5 ms would help for movies) but the games have been poor I mean when one of the higest rated games is Pirates! which could be basically a minigame for a PS2 game you have some game develpement problems. I mean look at how FF 7&8 look that would take 2 UMD Discs but they could probally trim it to one.
.. but the point is that it's a TONS better game than anything they have out and the games are nearly 10 years old.

first off thats illegal even if you do own it (cause the emulator wasnt designed for the console ebside the sp1 emulator) and secondly you cna do all that on an xbox, dreamcast, and px even better. Even the psp ps1 emulator has problems liek disc swapping. And its pretty sad when you use your psp to play nintendo games esp ones that everyone already played and beat laready.

i don't like you strangler.

   Re: Harp (Unregistered) - 2007-03-25
 » Illegal?

That might be illegal in your country but it's perfectly legal in mine. I can rip my PS1 games, convert them, even host them online for my own private use, as long as I'm not telling everyone to download them it's legal. How is it sad that people are using their PSPs to play the games they WANT to play?

Wanna know what's sad? Coming to a PSP news story and then doing nothing but putting it down. Wish your parents would buy you a PSP for your 8th birthday? I bet.

» Good things on the way.

Let's be honest a lot of the games on PSP are bad, but I don't find too many 3rd party games very interesting on the DS either the only DS games that have really tickled my fancy are first party titles like The New Super Mario Bros. (very fun game) and Mario Kart DS. The same thing goes for the PSP. I really liked GTA Liberty City and Dark Mirror but most other titles are lackluster. That being said there are some very good looking games coming to the PSP this year including Crisis Core, God of War PSP (which according to Ready at Dawn is supposed to be 80% efficient while the current engine for Daxter is supposed to be 50-60%), and Dracula X Chronicles which will include the original Japan-only Dracula X: Chi no Rondo as an unlockable. Silent Hill Origins looks good too. All and all I think there's some good stuff coming this year.

 » To Fanjita

You're the worst influence on game sales though, you built an ISO loader into the custom firmware. What you should have done was make that ISO loader only load ISOs that were ripped by the same PSP. Encode the MAC address into them.

Yes piracy hurts PSP, but you're the biggest component of piracy.

   Re: Fanjita - 2007-03-25
 » Nope

You might want to get your facts straight before blaming. I have never had anything to do with any ISO loader, and I did not produce the custom firmwares.

dark alex made the Custom FW
and dont blame him either

Fanjita has done nothen but help us all
look at the 3.03 downgrader man
amazeing!!! Oh whats that
we can use an IR keyboard with our psp!@!
*****ing awsome.

I dont see a problem with an iUMD ripper that embedded the mac addy
but then again
their will be an app made to edit this and wahla
once again priated iso's

dont blame the developer's
for people missuseing their software.
Blame the torrent sites that host the illegal stuff
blame the person downloading this stuff.
THEY are at fought no one else.

if your downloading games then STOP IT
and go get a job.
