Ó

Sony have confirmed the launch of 'Planet PSP' (Working title) for September 2006. Planet PSP will have interactive City guides for 6 European Cities: Amsterdam, Barcelona, London, Paris, Prague and Rome. Each guide has been developed with the young city breaker and frequent traveller in mind and comes packed with information on how to experience the very best places in town - from the latest restaurants to the most underground of clubs - along with videos, audio walks, photography, maps and pre-planned itineraries to suit every sort of visit, and every type of adventurous traveller.

Planet PSP will feature 3 main Information categories:
  • Points of interest: Each city has 250 main points of interest covering eating, sleeping, nightlife, shopping and sights with original photography, key information and contact details
  • Essential information: The bits you just must know from pharmacies to embassies, hospitals, airlines, money and costs
  • Getting around: Comprehensive and detailed zoom-in, zoom-out maps covering transport systems and roads
Planet PSP will also feature audio tours, video content, and Intineraries; and there are plans for more content and map updates to be made available to download  via the Internet after launch. It's a shame this 'game' won't be released before Summer, you'll have to make your summer trip to Europe without this handy application!

I'll leave you with a bit of advice. If you ever find yourself in a foreign country and needing to use Planet PSP, I'd advise you don't flash it around so much. Thieves can Identify foreigners in seconds, especially if your looking up maps on your PSP. It'll be gone before you have the chance to say 'Save me from firmware upgrades'.

 » hmmm...

I am involved in Travel Media Production and I have a feeling this is going to fall VERY short of what it is trying to do. It will need to be extremely detailed with the ability to be updated to include new information.
Amsterdam, Barcelona, London, Paris, Prague and Rome, These cities all have extensive history, infacstructure and tourist attractions. This program is either going to be very convoluted and missing alot of important info or it is going to be very well done but geared only to one specific type of traveller. (The yuppy traveller who drags their PSP along when they are looking at the wonders of the old world)

"Hey, lets go to the louve"
"Ok, i'll be sitting in the lobby playing Daxter"

 » pretty good idea

I think that they should also include psp related things, such as wifi hotspots, video game stores, etc. Good concept though I doubt I would have a whole lot of use for it.

 » definately won't run on 1.50

I'm pretty sure that this application will not run on 1.50 Firmwares. But I sincerely hope that either MPH, or Fanjita, or someone else is gonig to hack this application, in order to let the 1.50 users enjoy it as well.
It is worth a hack ;)

 » Prague?

A guide for Prague but not for berlin or another german city? Bad idea ...

maybe Prague is a nice city, perhaps better for sightseeing ... but a kick in the a** of the germans ....

» a great way to get mugged!

Let's look at the city list here, "Amsterdam, Barcelona, London, Paris, Prague and Rome."

If you're in the wrong area of Amsterdam, Prague, or Rome and you've got a PSP in your hands and you're busy reading through about where to go--don't be suprised if you get mugged. Especially in Rome, where I can imagine some gypsy kids running off with your PSP while your enormous-backpack-clad-ass just stands there and cries.

London, Paris, and Barcelona are a bit safer.... But even in their shady areas, be cautious!
