Japan is getting a nifty map program for their PSP?s. This is not a GPS enabled mapping system, rather, a series of maps that allows for 360 degrees of rotation. The software will allow users to look up addresses, restaurants, stores etc., as well as save points of interest with comments. Later, those favorite places and comments can be shared with friends via WiFi connection with another PSP! The Map application will be available on UMD in Japan on April 20th for 3,990 yen. For more info, check out the announcement by Sony [here] (in Japanese). |

I have to admit this is a really good idea for the PSP.
Im a bit sick of saving mapquest as html and viewing in PSP for directions so this would be perfect if they ever made a USA version.
They could download street updates online just like microsoft streets and trips and always have an up to date system. This would be another thing worth buying for the psp. If they had GPS then the PSP would become one of the cheapest navigation you could put in your car or bring anywhere.
I remember that in the past, someone managed to connect a GPS receiver to the PSP's serial, headphone jack.
So this or any other map/gps software together with this is awesome

just imagine if a bluetooth component is ever added to the psp. then we could use this with our cellphones as a gps device.
As a motorcyclist, this is pretty much what I've been waiting for since I got my psp. I currently just use screen shots of google maps. Having access to the real google maps along with gps, like alan mentioned, would be tits.
Have you noticed how everything comes out in japan?
Europe gets all the bull****......and are the last for everything
These companies really dont know anything do they.......
The reason why europe is last is because of the smaller market. There are revolutions in technology every year in japan. Revolutions that the US population is willing to pay for. Europe on the other hand isnt as big of a market so they save it for last.
If europeans were as heavy in technology as the US then japan would consider going to europe before the US but thats not the case. Companies go to where the demand is higher. Once the demand is at a sufficient level then they move to the next biggest demand. Its common economics. If you have a high tech piece of software where would you release it first to make the best turn-around.
