Hideo Kojima sat down for an interview with French site JVN and "tells everything" about Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Apart from indulging the discussion with gameplay details on the much-awaited Kojima Productions project, he also explained the very successful flash teaser on their site.
We already know that he wasn't really supposed to be part of the development team per se, but that he just couldn't get his hands off it because he "felt it was still a little early to let it completely in their hands, so I decided to take the lead." As to the reason why he chose to put it on the PSP: The game will be based on infiltration and action. I still cannot reveal too many details but we implement the specific features which may be performed only on PSP and that everyone expects, I think. As for the gameplay tidbits: The game will be a little different from the Metal Gear that players have come to know. However, history can be replayed many times and the game is filled with challenges to accomplish. So I think the game will meet players with really great life. Just to give you an example, do you remember the cardboard box at the end of the trailer of Peace Walker? In addition to this... we are preparing many cardboard boxes this time. To give you a glimpse of what's in the game, you can, shall we say, customize Snake according to your preferences and what kind of soldier you that you can use before you begin your mission. And now on the signs that appeared in their countdown timer:
Apart from images of Snake and Raiden, we had a total of 10 symbols and when they were all put in order, they formed a link with the announcements made at E3. The first symbols that emerged were the number 5 and the letter S for Snake representing Peace Walker is an advanced level "5" for me. The symbol does not hide the only lowercase letter E to E3 and is also the kanji for the word snake. Finally, the symbol which has appeared at the very end is a kanji that represents a setting sun that leads to Rising. The Rising of Rising Metal Gear Solid leads "the rising sun" , "the shining sun and the sun shining on Raiden", which was revealed in the images on the homepage. In addition, Riding is also the way Metal Gear Solid will reach a new level. To return to the symbols found on the homepage, they are also related to the conference and 360 to each of the titles announced at E3. When each of these symbols are presented in order, I think you can recognize E3, PSP, PS3, 360 and other things. Did any of your guesses even come close to his explanation? The symbols are actually self-explanatory. But putting them together, nobody could have said it better than Kojima himself. Enjoy yourself some new screenshots for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
