It's PSP's year this 2007 - Image 1 "I think this is going to be the year for PSP, I think it's going to be a fantastic year for it. A very, very good year." That's how confident John Koller is on the fate of Sony's handheld for 2007.

And he actually has a well-founded reason for suddenly gushing like a schoolgirl. The recent implementation of the PSP price drop to US$ 169 apparently gave a whole lot of loving to Sony as PSP sales shot up to 300 percent - in just two days, at that. And all that love they'll be taking to the bank with them. Not only that, but the once-comatosed UMD scene suddenly gets a second chance at life as UMD sales also got a nice revival.

Also being held responsible for this rejuvenation of PSP sales is the new marketing scheme taken by Sony through its "Dude, Get Your Own" campaign. According to Koller, since the launch of the new campaign, they immediately saw an increase in sales. But admittedly, they also took a close, hard look at Wal-Mart experience during the last Black Friday.

But apart from all that, "Our greatest successes take place when publishers and developers recognize the value of the PSP owner as a PSP owner not repurposing a title," further explains Koller. "We've actively encouraged third parties in that direction."

To maintain the momentum of the PSP, Koller reveals that they will be having some major announcements coming this year. We expect to hear about them in the coming months, and you can bet we'l' be there to give you the heads up.

Final Fantasy Tactics PSP, Disgaea PSP, Crisis Core, God of War...big name titles, but 2 are improved ports, and God knows when Crisis Core will be out in English...

Why does this place attract the dumbest people on the planet?

 » Hmm...

I think the main reasons are because of the price drops and sales on everything and the help of homebrew.

I don't know how much it helps... I think it makes things worse. The amount of piracy on the psp is ridiculous. Even developers take it into account when publishing a game for the psp and have stated it in a number of articles here on qj.

I read through the entire article over at IGN and after that load of crap I start to think that living in NA is bad if your a gamer who likes Sony products because things are doing too well here for them to have bothered with things such as extra colors, well made websites, accessories or really anything else.

I am pleased with the PSP so far, but mostly because I've invested the money into it to find the few things I need to go with it (an extended battery, Hori screen protectors, good neck/wrist strap, large enough ms & lastly the PSP softcase for it's versatility) and this has lead to me accepting some of the flaws the system has rather then to ask why they have not been fixed or changed.

Through this entire article I noticed the heavy emphasis on UMD's which I think is great since I love using my PSP to watch movies, unfortunately there really isn't enough content to please me enough to use it to watch videos regularly.

Another thing I enjoyed immensively is that Snoy plans on releasing many new features via firmware updates and I hope that the few things I truly desire make their way into mainstream PSP firmware so I can leave homebrew should I choose without losing the few things it offers that I care for (reading ezines while listening to music, PDA keyboard and being able to play PS games on my PSP without buying a PS3) and I hope that Sony also looks into adding some advanced options for the power user since there clearly are many of us who like to tweak our PSP's to the extreme.

 » what? are you challenged?

I have both ds and psp, and yet I find myself playing ff3 on ds, and will be playing pokemon, but on the psp, I mainly use it as an mp3. I can already tell your a fanboy...anyone in their right mind knows that the ds is more fun with more features built in(mic, touch screen, dual screen). I can not say that psp games are the best...although they would be if they were all online.

 » hey retard

u could play ff3 on psp, and the fact that the psp can emulate all of the best games ever made makes it an instant winner in the "fun" category. id much rather play yoshi's island on psp free than pay $35 to play it on DS.

 » Get your facts right

I dont suppose you can play the re-make of ff3 that is only for DS on your psp, can you? ;)

Nah, we can't (yet,) I'm afraid we'll just be stuck playing the new FFVII Crisis Core game instead. : ( Hahahaha.
