Latest Starwars Battlefront to be a PSP exclusive - Image 1

It was recently announced that the latest installment from the Star Wars Battlefront series - Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron - will be a PSP exclusive. Slated to be released this September, the series has a very good track record with the previous two games selling more than 10 million copies on various platforms.

The latest Star Wars game from Rebellion Developments and LucasArts is currently being developed by Rebellion Studios. The game focuses on the exploits of the Renegade Squadron; it's also reported to have a new storyline and multiplayer functions. Known to be composed of the toughest fighters in the galaxy, the squadron was assembled by Han Solo himself and has previously utilized their skills on missions in Korriban, Alderaan, and Sullust.

All in all, the single-player mode encompasses 11 different skirmishes. In addition to this, more maps such as Box Pity, Ord Mantell, Saleucami, Hoth (a newer version), and even a brand new Endor map should be available. For those who are into space battles, you'll be getting Kessel, Hoth, and Bespin to try your skills on.

The full release of the game allows up to 16 people to battle it out in Infrastructure Mode and up to eight players in ad hoc. Each player will be given 100 points to spend on custom kits that allow you to add bonuses to health, agility, speed, weapons.Of course you will still be able to pick your species, body, uniform, and insignia options just to give your character that personal touch.

Those who play the game to see the exploits of the more famous characters won't be disappointed. Admiral Ackbar, IG-88, Ben Kenobi (Episode IV), Asajj Ventress, and Kit Fisto are among the 14 new heroes said to be making a comeback in this latest iteration of the game.

Vehicle buffs won't be disappointed either since the guys at Rebellion have added new B-wings, TIE Defenders, A5-R Juggernauts, and even T4-B heavy tanks for you to pilot. What? You don't like driving generic vehicles? Well, for the pickier connoisseurs, you can pilot the Slave I, Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter, Darth Vader's TIE Advanced, and the Millennium Falcon.

To keep track of your greatness, they are are going to implement online leaderboards and stat pages so the rest of world can bask in your 1337ness. It really seems like the game has a little something for everyone. If Rebellion pulls this off, then we could be looking at another PSP classic. Be sure to check out the screenshots of the game and see if it's your cup of tea.

 » Oh My F'ing GOD!

This is going to so ROXORZ!

Hopefully they get it right and have True Online Multiplayer
Infrustructer Support, I call Thomas or TOMIS.

Not just another StarWars game but one that you can
school others online with will make this an instant PSP
classic.

All other developers should be fallowing in this T.O.M.I.S.
and will soon learn that if you don't utilize the full
capabilities of the PSP by having TOMIS as a standard
then your games will fall short and the ratings/popularity
of said games will not be as high as those who do.

Allot of developers have been taking the easy route when
producing games turning off their market and SONY.

SONY has been after the developers to do more yet they
don't listen. SONY also has been telling developers to
implement Online Multiplay but not many have aside from
SOCOM and a few others.

Hopefully this will give the compitition a swift kick to the
groun so that others will fallow in the foot steps of
SW BF3.

 » after all...

soooo many other games are claiming to have
online play just so you'll make the purchase only
to find out once you've got it and it's to late, that
there truely is not any online play.

This is what they do, they call it "Wifi multiplayer"
instead of AD-Hoc and when we see WiFi we all
think the same thing "COOL Infrustructer
Multiplayer" sadly this isn't the case but it should
be the case and the system is being abused.
Thats why T.O.M.I.S. is here.

 » INFRASTRUCTURE!!!!!

it's not rocket science - ad hoc, psp's within 50 metres, infrastrure - ONLINE INTERNET MULtiPLAYER, wifi - either. this article says infrastructure, so it will be online multiplayer OK!

Your the noob if you have to use a tank

 » Why?

Why make a big-name licensed game exclusive to the losing portable console? That seems like the worst choice they could have made. At least release it for both portable consoles, or if you'd rather focus on one console, focus on one of the home consoles. It really seems like a bad idea to me.

 » loosing?

I'm no sonny fan boy or what not, but the psp isn't a loosing console. You sound like a nintendo fan boy....just because you don't have a psp, doesn't mean you should degrade it. Imagine a game like that on a nintendo ds? it would not work very well period..thats why they choose the psp

   Re: nah (Unregistered) - 2007-05-11
 » both portables?

quite frankly, wouldn't want to play it on the DS.. terrible graphics...
   by wee (Unregistered) - 2007-05-10
 » On the contrary

PSP's ripe for this kind of portable multiplayer online game.'

the psp really needs games like metal gear and socom that try to use all its power to the max. This machine hasn't even begun to show its full potential yet. It's still a baby.

   Re: Wicked_Insider - 2007-05-10
 » I agree...

And it's high F'in time another developer steps up to the plate and gives us fuller use of the PSPs hardware. I can't wait for portable multiplay games to be produced by the droves.

» The part of this story that's strangely absent

You'd thing the blog author would include what a dissapointment BF2 was (surely for the PSP if not in general).

I hope this the load distance and low enemy counts that BF2 has.

   Re: Abeanie (Unregistered) - 2007-05-11
 » Bf2

i own bf2, graphics were dire, enemy count ridiculously low unless you played against wookies or gungans etc, (n.b on hoth there were usually about 2 men on the battlefield at anyone time, rest in at-ats or turrets) but the game play rocked, and i've played it ever since - it was not as good as it could have been been, but it wasn't dissappointing - in fact it was extremely fun to play.

looks f***ing awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!

   by AsunaNegi (Unregistered) - 2007-05-11
 » Great if...

This would be great, AS LONG as they fix the 10 AI per side problem they had for BF2 on PSP. It was ridiculous. On hoth there weren't any enemies. There was a reason why the only levels I played on were Kashyyyk and Mustafar...
