PS3 wireless keypad and AC adapter - Image 1

Sony has sent out an announcement regarding the launch date for their new wireless PS3 keypad and AC adapter. Both peripherals will be launching in Japan on December 18.

The wireless keypad supports Bluetooth 2.0 and has a full QWERTY keyboard. It fits on both the SIXAXIS and DualShock 3 controllers and will be usable for chatting in games like LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2, and SOCOM: Confrontation as well as PlayStation Home.

The AC adapter lets you charge your controller without having to attach it to a PS3. It also has two extra USB ports that lets you charge other peripherals like the wireless keypad or a headset. You can even use it to charge your PSP Slim or the new PSP-3000.

Suggested retail price for the wireless keypad is JPY 5,500 (US$ 55). The AC adapter, on the other hand, goes for JPY 2,800 (US$ 28).

Keyboard looks pretty slick.

Should have just copied the 360 one. The 360 pad made ergonomic sense, as it kept the keypad within easy reach of your thumbs. This thing looks like it might be difficult to use and game at the same time.

It looks really cool, but i'm not buying it.

I agree.

Sony always seem to design things that looks slick but murder your thumbs! The dual shock needs the analogs moving, many times i worry i'll get athritis of the thumb :S

Now I understand this place is full of Sony fanboys but SupaDawg has a very valid point.

Sony went made this independently powered for whatever stupid reason, and the positioning is all wrong, the 360 one feels great in the hand and is actually useable. Try holding the 360 one above the controller and using it.

Yea... Bad idea. As bad as the concave triggers and left analogue stick placement.

The price is kinda steep..I hope the keyboard doesnt add too much weight on the controller.
Other than the price, I'd say this is an awesome-must-have accessory.
And the USB charger, well while it's a pretty cool thing to have, it's not practical for PSPs.
I mean if you're going to have an adaptor around, why not charge the PSP with an ACTUAL charger?
I mean the PSP slim takes twice as long to charge via USB.
But hey I'm still getting one. :)

AWE MAN! I was hoping it would snap into the USB port and use power from the controller or something. So, this things runs on it's own. I think that was a deal breaker for me. No sale.

If it was a Nintendo product, you would give it limitless praise and insult anybody who doesn't like it or says they're not buying it.

Sure, it's an ill concieved product. But so is wii speak, motion plus, the wii wheel, the zapper, wii fit, etc.

The Microsoft keyboard attachment is probably the best, but even that is fairly useless.

dude use some 'common sense' a keyboard is pretty usefull when typing

@iso i disagree i think its better that its individually powered. think about it, will you use it with EVERY game?
no, so it while its not in use its plugged in ready to go.

that to me is better than the controller lasting 1/2 the time because the keyboard is draining the battery

why is it you never realize how drunk you are till you try doing something normal

 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

@Mr. Common Douche Bag - As usual, you are 100% wrong in everything you say.

@death - Nah, this would be yet another device to keep charged. What a pain! I would rather be able to snap it on, do what typing I need, then take it off. So it wouldn't drain 1/2 the power as I wouldn't need it on the entire time.

Plus, it wouldn't drain power any more then the PS3 controller itself. Had they thought ahead they could have had the controller OPEN to send additional signals. So all the button presses would have gone through the controller. Thus, it wouldn't use any more power then simply pressing buttons on the controller itself. It's a shame to, they could have 1-upped MS on this one.
