Those who still play in the PS2 and PSP online gaming servers for titles such as Syphon Filter Omega Strain and Lemmings may want to play more than usual, now that Sony is planning to close the online servers after a couple of months. The PSP Content Pack for September is now available courtesy of Playstation.com. It's a free download where you get the latest in PSP system optimized video clips and trailers, wallpapers, screenshots, audio clips, and game content.

This month, the PSP Content Pack includes Need for Speed Carbon: Own the City trailer, The Godfather: Mob Wars trailers, Mercury Meltdown wallpapers, Lemmings PlayStation Underground Wallpaper Contest, a September Calendar Wallpaper and PSP TV Spot featuring Mr. Goose.

Of course, you need your Memory Stick Duo inserted first as soon as the download is done. For your PC, your available hard drive space should be 200 MB. If you've done this before, you already know the steps, but for those who are downloading for the first time, connect your PSP system to your PC via a USB cable. Then set your PSP system to USB connection mode. You should be able to transfer your PSP content Pack as soon as you double click the file and follow the instructions of the wizard.

By now, videogame retailers should have the Lemmings displayed in their racks/shelves. The cute yet always clueless creatures should have crawled their way to stores as they were officially released yesterday (May 23). Its arrival to the PSP would definitely give the classic "save 'em up" puzzle game a new and portable twist. The PSP version was developed by the guys at Team 17, the same company who developed the video game Worms.

And staying true to the essence of Lemmings, the gameplay is still the same. The game still puts players in charge of the little ones as they traverse the different stages with lots of obstacles that they should overcome to go on to another stage and more obstacles.

The PSP version of the Lemmings offers 150 different stages, 20 of which are exclusively for the PSP only. The game features updated graphics, new music, and a level editor wherein you can create your own crafty mazes that you can share with others.

This looks like a busy week for the PSP this week as five new games and three new movies are hitting the console. The games coming out this week are FIFA World Cup 2006, Field Commander, Lemmings, Monster Hunter Freedom and Puzzle Challenge: Crosswords & More! The UMD movies that are being released this week are 'Donnie Darko', 'Ikki-Tousen Vol. 1: Legendary Fighter' and 'The Boondock Saints'.

FIFA World Cup 2006 is the update to FIFA 2006, but this time focusing on the World Cup tournament. Field Commander is a turn-based strategy game that features 3D environments and 15 army divisions. Lemmings is the newest version of the popular puzzle strategy franchise. Monster Hunter Freedom is based on the Monster Hunter G game for the PlayStation 2 but made to be portable. Puzzle Challenge: Crosswords & More! is made up of crosswords, code breakers, puzzles with cryptic clues, diamond shaped puzzles, backwards puzzles and word searches all packed up in a UMD disk.

'Donnie Darko' is a story of a average misguided teen who is told one night that the world will end in 28 days and time travel fits in there somewhere as well. 'Ikki-Tousen' is an anime series that tells the story of a war between Fighters, a group of high school students destined to battle until one emerges as the Ikki Tousen. 'The Boondock Saints' is a movie about two Irish brothers who wind up taking out a couple of Boston's mafia members.

So go ahead and check out some of the new releases if you need something new to play on your PSP this week.

SCEA has released a few gameplay videos today showing off Lemmings in two different levels. The 30 second clips are for a grassy level and an Egyptian level. The videos show that some thought is required to successfully get the lemmings to their goal. Lemmings is an incredibly popular classic title that's getting some great attention on the PSP. While this game has already been released in other parts of the world, it's not due out until May 23rd in the States, just after E3, and is bound to be a fan favorite.

Gamespot gives us some gameplay footage and a sweet interview of Lemmings. The producer of the game tells us all about it, including the 120 original levels, level editor, WiFi level sharing, Team 17 developing it, and some other tidbits. From the video, we can see that the controls work fairly well and the game doesn't seem to suffer from the lack of a mouse. The video shows us the different types of levels and the enhancements the graphics and sounds received. It's exciting to see this classic redone so well.

It's good to know that people out there still treat the classic games with the respect and admiration they deserve. Too many times we've seen classics milked until the cow was dead, buried, decomposed, and turned to ash. Lemmings is coming to the PSP May 23rd.

If you've never played a Lemmings game before then I'm going to be forced to murder you and sell your dog to the Korean shop down the street. Lemmings are those lovable, yet stupid, creatures that walk off cliffs in herds for no reason. Your job is to save as many as you can using whatever tools your lemmings can hold. This popular and highly addictive game is coming to the PSP with new levels, fun, and WiFi support, and even a level editor.

Gamespot has put up a pre-E3 preview of Lemmings and gives us a nice glimpse at this classic title that will never grow old. Their preview discusses the updated controls and how well they work on the PSP, which is a huge concern for a game that used a keyboard/mouse combo. They also talked about the level editor, as if 150 levels weren't enough, and how involved the process is. They sum it up saying all the old charm is still there and old fans and newcomers will come to love this game. Lemmings for the PSP is due out in late May.
