LocoRoco ad

LocoRoco may have failed to drive the Japanese crazy but Sony is trying to resuscitate the game with new TV spots. Although the title was included in the 15 Most Anticipated PSP Games, its actual sales proved disappointing and its price tag was downgraded to bargain levels. But apparently, Sony isn't taking no for an answer. The company launched a new ad campaign featuring Japanese pop icon Ryoko Shinohara.

Is Sony just wasting it's money re-selling LocoRoco? One reason attributed to LocoRoco's failure to launch was Sony's original ad campaign for the game. Hopefully, they got it right this time. Meanwhile, the game will be released this first week of September in North America. Let's see if this hemisphere will be friendlier to the blob.

Here's a glimpse at the upcoming Loco Roco advertisement featuring Ryoko Shinohara.

why is this game such a big deal? the hype for this game is ridiculous, and it doesn't even look like that good of a game.

Ok, this is an awesoem game, and I have no doubt that it'll sell well in North America, and hope it sells well in Japan too.
But living in Australia, I think it's a bit odd that a game which I bought in July could not be out in America yet.
WTF?

2: Cause it such a basic and pure fun game...play it before you express yourself about the looks...they are fitting in their simplicity as playing the game would show you!

50 stages, 5 unlockable blobs (different characters) 3 minigames, a minigame house (use peices you find in the main game and in minigames to reach more peices.(150 pieces in all))

To beat a level you must reach the end (easy enough, right?) But you must also collect red bud flowers to grow (max size is 20 blobs.) and grab muimui to unlock rocohouse peices. also, you gotta grab little red fruit flies. Collecting all of these flies gets you a fruitfly bonus. These work as a kind of money in minigames.
I beat the game in 4 hours of gameplay, although the replay value of the game is WAY up there. The music changes if you change your character. there's some boss battles (i guess) but nothing difficult. The game is very easy, and that little blob is freakin cute. :P I suggest trying before buying. It's refreshing to see something new among all the same boring games.

I think the reason Loco Roco failed in japan is because they're no strangers when it comes to the weird and crazy. They've seen it all before, so when something like this comes out they think "This isn't different." But there might be more reasons on it's failure.

» LocoRoco is NOT in bargain bins...

LocoRoco happens not to be in bargain bins and I'm unhappy that so many people are believing Kotaku's lies. Apparently, Kotaku took a picture of an opening gamestore ad full of discounts. Furthermore, it just happens that LocoRoco is #2 on the PSP game charts in Japan, just being bested by Tekken. That means that LocoRoco is most likely in the top 30 of games. That is still impressive for a game that is completely new in this world of consistent retro and re-ports for the PSP (Tekken, Sonic, Capcom, Ghosts/Goblins, GTA, etc.).

 » great

Is one of the best games i have ever played. I think in Japan they are battling between the DS and PSP and Sony have to do more things to get the attention a little more for the PSP on Japan. Anyways for sure will make well on US!!!!

Trust me, this type of advertising (ie. endorsements by popular idols) _works_ in Japan. Don't be surprised if you see it rocket up the charts.

The typical Sony fanboy. Kiddy games for nintendo? Ever asked yourself why the DS, for example, is such a big success? Because of all games for kids?

Final Fantasy 3 = 500 000 units sold during the first week.

As far as I know...then no PSP game have managed to sell more then 500 000 units during the first week of it's release. I guess FF 3 is a game for kids ???????

What did you call the games for Super Nintendo or Nintendo during their time? Games for kids? Oh wait....you weren't probably born then.

Games for kids are often being based on something that only target kids, which is often mentioned before the release of the game. A good example would be games based on movies....that were made for kids (which is kind of rare)

Just because the game look simple, cute, colorful or...well lively does not make it a game for small "brats".

But in the end the majority of non-ignorant people usually call users like you (Number 11) r*tard.

And no, I'm not a Nintendo fanboy. But Nintendo and the games certain companies make for Nintendo are great. Just as great as games are for Sonys consoles or Microsofts.

As for the topic, I still haven't played Loco Roco but it certainly looks great, I'm thinking of buying it soon.
It seems that it's worth the money, but if some here thinks that it's not worth it then I would be glad if you could post your reasons for it.

Loco Roco is a game you have to force yourself to like. Basically liking this game will make you all 'hip, cool and trendy'. Anyways that a lot of people think. Those crazy people in the UK would buy anything PlayStation even if it was plain stupid.

And action or fps games are for those who are older? No wonder that PSP have only a few killer-titles. If the consumers are this stupid...

Locoroco is one of the best platformers on PSP, in fact the most fun games that I've played lately. It's a shame even the Japanese are not wacky enough to show this blob some love, and they go mental to buy some mediocre cooking game for you-know-what. Pathetic and unpredictable. Hopefully it will sell well in America and Europe.
