Doug Lowenstein, the ESA's president, was eager to share the industry body's take on the Clinton-Lieberman Family Entertainment Protection Act. As expected, he applauds the intent but not the proposed execution. “We share Senator Clinton’s commitment to effective enforcement of the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) ratings by retailers, and we appreciate the fact that she has sought to draft a more thoughtful proposal in this area than most others. However, we strongly oppose the bill. Read the full article [here] |

Finally someone who is sane says something. Its up to the parents to raise their children, not the government.
Who will if the parents dont? Honestly do you think the kids that are dieing from over exposure, or going out and shooting up a school have parents telling there kids that its *too much go outside* or *hey kid you know this stuff is just fantasy right?* no, so where most parents are failing there has to be some kind of backup. At this point in time the backup obviously isnt working. The first step is to make it so extreemly violent games arrent accessable to kids. You can still have your Halo, Doom 3, Halflife 2, but honestly do 10 year olds really need stuff like GTA? WHen I was arround 10 GTA came out, it wasnt nearly as graphic. I admit, its a generational thing. Our rated M material was Half-Life. Now the rated M matial is GTA:SA. Think as a parent for a second, however young or old you are. Do you really think an 8 year old can distinguish between reality and fantasy when the games are so realistic, is it alright? Just for one second forget the fact that maybe your under 17 and want to play these games, would you buy one of these games for your kid... I am 21, I grew up right in the middle of all of this, so I guess we all have a unique chance to make this go in the right direction. If your going to let your kid play a game... MAKE SURE THE KID KNOWS ITS A GAME!!! Have the kid take a break after 3 or 4 hours... If your parents dont, if you dont, the government will have no choice but to, because its there responsability. Big Brother isnt always there to screw you ya know...
Not even a counter point? I was expecting something, Id even be happy with a rant...
Common you got plenty of material...
Gamer kid violence ratio
Parents not doing there job
Government wanting to do it
Your oppinion on if you would let your kids play these games...
owell... cant count on anybody for a good debate...
Ya I saw your comment, it most definatly wasnt off topic, and it was a good statement. Too bad the people who disagree with it had to delete it rather than debate over it.
too many laws.
My god, please vote that guys for president !

Is this some kind of blonde test? There's no link.
I do find it amusing how parents fail to take responisbility for raising their keds leaving it to Congress. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
guys I'm 12 years old... I've been playing lots of video games over the years. rated M games.. I'm a strait A student, I play sports a lot I'm not fat.. there's no problem. My parents have never talked to me about how video games are not real. Its pretty obvious. All this stuff is bs.
This is why kids should get spanked....I bet you that those kids who were violent and got connected with video games never got spanked.
congrats seaman9 your one of fiew that actually has a sense of reality. Fact is alot of it isnt BS. A kids brain hasnt completly developed enough to tell him that its time to get up, go eat or walk arround for a bit. Thats why alot of kids sit in front of the tv for hours on end. Now not to say there arrent exceptions, but most kids are to put it simply, kids. Kids dont have the best judgement in the whole world. And alot of that is attributed to lack of development due to age. Some people dont even get that at the adult ages. Truth is kids are very impressionable at a young age. Less so in the teens, but impressionable enough that you kids think its cool to pick on a less cool kid, or that because you have a more expensive fad item that it makes you look better. Why wouldnt games be any different on the brain and personality? Anyways, comon sense says that going into dangerous situations is bad, if a game simulates thoes bad situations dont you think you might get useto it? It might change how your mind would react? I would say ya it does, your fight or flight mechanism is altered. Anyways food for thought. Just because you and I didnt get negativly affected by video games doesnt mean the larger part of kids wont. You will all learn soon enough that the majority of people in this world are impressionable idiots. I guess what is really happening is darwin at its best no?
