Homebrew coder Zx-81 dropped by the QJ.Net Forums to announce the release of version 1.0.5 of PSPSim. This homebrew emulator is a PSP port of the SimCoupe, an emulator for the SamCoupe home computer. The SamCoupe computer was a British Z80-based home computer released by Gordon Miles Technology back in 1989. Here's the changelog for version 1.0.5:

Homebrew coder Zx-81 has just updated the PSPSIM homebrew, which is now running at version 1.0.4. This application is an emulator for games built to run on the SAM Coupe - an 8-bit Z80-based home computer system originally developed by Miles Gordon Technology back in 1989. And much like the updates for PSPYape, PSP7800, and PSPMSX, this emulator now uses the PSP GPU for rendering - full explanations on what it does below:

Months and months have rolled by and at last, we have an update for another Zx-81 emulator. The good homebrew developer recently updated his SamCoupé Emulator for the PSP, PSPSIM, to version 1.0.3. In case your memory banks ain't giving you a clear picture of this one, the last update was dished out by Zx last May and from then on, it has remain silent. But now, it is roaring back with a vengeance thanks to Zx, with the help of Mr Nick666 in the graphics and settings files department. Just to give you some info on what a SAM Coupé home PC is, the product was released some time in 1989. If it's the first time you're hearing about it, that's not surprising. Apparently, it flopped in the market and the company that made them, Miles Gordon Technology went bankrupt. Anyhow, a SAM Coupé home PC was capable of playing early version of Lemmings, Prince of Persia, and Klax. It was an 8-bit computer which was like the thing of the future at that time. Shifting our focus back at Zx-81's creation, here is the changelog for v1.0.3.

Most people probably don't know the SAM Coupe home computer - that's not surprising, as it was a commercial failure which brought it's manufacturer, Miles Gordon Technology, to bankruptcy. Perhaps the SAM Coupe will now get a piece of the popularity it would have deserved as it was a really cool little machine. First released in 1989, it was a 8-bit computer and while being very advanced for that, 16-bit technology was about to be introduced to the mass market. It didn't help either that very few software houses supported the SAM Coupe's development proved to be rather difficult. Nonetheless, the SAM Coupe software library included lots of disk magazines, as well as ports of popular games like Klax, Lemmings, and Prince Of Persia. And as with many home computers, a tight-knit community exists around the SAM Coupe still today. So there is really some fun to be had with PSPSIM - versions for both FW 1.5 and 2.5 (using Fanjita's eLoader) are provided. Download: [PSPSIM v1.0.1] Read: [Forum Release Thread] |
