In today's global community, companies need to adjust their old marketing ways to fit the new environment. That appears to be the overriding theme behind the various MI6 Conference '08 opening day speeches.

VIPs such as President Peter Moore of EA Sports, Jonathan Simpson-Bint of Future US, Will Kassoy of Activision and Mike Benson of ABC Networks graced the event. All of them spoke about global gaming marketing and cited various examples from popular culture to emphasize their point.

For example, Benson mentioned the marketing strategy used for the show Desperate Housewives, saying that different countries "market the show in a different way than the show was intended to be marketed."

Kassoy noted how Activision's partnership with Yahoo for the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare's (PC, PS3, Xbox 360) PC demo helped lead to the game's global success. It was so successful, in fact, that exclusivity was cut short when the demand for the demo exceeded Yahoo's service capacity.

The Nintendo DS, and the PC MMORPG genre were also cited for being strong contenders worldwide. As the game enters into its second day, stay tuned for more updates on this two-day event as we get them.
