Manhunt 2 - Image 1Reg Hardware reports that Manhunt 2 (Wii, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 2) can get past the BBFC ban if it is released as a downloadable title. According to lawyer Phil Carnell, hope lies in the UK's 1984 Video Recordings Act.

Carnell revealed to Reg Hardware that downloaded games do not need an age-suitability classification since the Act, which mandates the BBFC's certification program, applies only to physical products.

This loophole has apparently been used by video game publishers to circumvent bans before. A BBFC spokeswoman has also reportedly confirmed that Take-Two could go the download route and get the game out in the UK legally.

Of course, the problem here is that there is no PC version of the game. Moreover, there are no ways to download and play the game on the Sony PlayStation 2 or Nintendo Wii home video game consoles without the use of a modchip.

Carnell also noted that while Take-Two is probably aware of the loophole, the company may choose not to go the downloadable path since Sony and Nintendo are likely to allow only those games rated by the BBFC onto their respective consoles.

"Moreover, there are no ways to download and play the game on the Sony PlayStation 2 or Nintendo Wii home video game consoles without the use of a modchip."

For the PS2, that may be true, however, the Wii could use the Wii Shopping Channel to download it. It would be the first full Wii game to be on there, but it could be done.

How could the Wii store the entire Wii Manhunt game if it's downloaded on it's internal 512 MB storage?

Just get an SD card, guarenteed to fit. ;)

 » Unlikely

I can't see that happening myself, because as the article says:

"Nintendo are likely to allow only those games rated by the BBFC onto their respective consoles"

Its unlikely that they'd allow Manhunt 2 on the Shopping Channel, even if it were possible.

» 'blood and gore on' Patch

For the Wii and PC they should just release a version with all the bloody scenen cut out. If you want the whole game (with blood and gore and all the violence) you would just have to download a small patch. That would be a perfect solution! (maybe even as long as the parental protection settings alow it).

This option could work, but I'm not sure if the Wii is able to "patch" games since they are not store internally on a hard disk like a PC? From what I understand all the information is just stored on the DISC, and only the save files can actually be patched (The save files were patched with the fixed Zelda game, in the cannon room glitch).

 » MH2 is awesome

I downloaded the uncensored version of the game for my PSP. The game is wicked crazy awesome. It's just a game. Why is the UK being such D|cks about it just because of heavy violence and brutal killings?? It's just plain fun!
