Manhunt 2 - Image 1It looks to be a rude awakening over in Britain for Rockstar, as the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has rejected the changes made to Rockstar's Manhunt 2 (Wii and PSP).

The BBFC mentioned that Rockstar seemingly ignored the suggestions made by the BBFC to address the game's content. It is currently unclear if these changes are the same as in the revised edition made for American audiences.

David Cooke, director of the BBFC, had this to say about the changes made to the game:

We recognise that the distributor has made changes to the game, but we do not consider that these go far enough to address our concerns about the original version.

The impact of the revisions on the bleakness and callousness of tone, or the essential nature of the gameplay, is clearly insufficient. There has been a reduction in the visual detail in some of the "execution kills", but in others they retain their original visceral and casually sadistic nature.

We did make suggestions for further changes to the game, but the distributor has chosen not to make them, and as a result we have rejected the game on both platforms. The decision on whether or not an appeal goes ahead lies with the distributor.

With this bit of news, it seems Rockstar's last chance to get the game to be released in Britain is to go through the Video Appeals Committee, which is expected to hear Rockstar's plea later in the year.

» Some people never change even after others show them how to.

Screw the UK, it already got passed as a mature down from
an AO title in the US so just ship it to those who really want
it instead of to those who fight it. Screw the BBFC's *****gotry!

» Too bad, that Manhunt 2 won't go retail in the UK.

Just download the game then, least the PSP version is region free.

 » Tarded BBFC

After having to spend millions to dumb down a game due
to the BBFC rejecting it and then getting rejected again
because it's not dumbed down enough goes to show just
how dumb and unwilling to co-operate the BBFC really is.

 » seriously

can't they just shut the f*** up?

I mean wouldn't it be just easier to sell it only over 21 or whatever? This way, at least it would be released at all.

I have to agree with some of the sentiment expressed above, but I think I'll do it with more words that won't require asterisks.

I can understand the BBFC's desire to reduce the amount of "excessive gore" in the game, but honestly "bleakness and callousness of tone"? That's where the ART is in games! Anyone can make a game where people's heads explode (or a movie for that matter), but to truly make someone's heart race, or to cause them to be sick to their stomachs due to subject matter (not visuals, per say), is when skill comes in.

Was BioShock released in the UK? I believe it was, and that game has a very bleak tone, and you get to chose to kill or safe 8-10 year old girls. I'm not saying BBFC favors one developer over the other, I'm simply saying that the environment should not be a factor in a game for adults. Hell, if anything, it should EARN it points, allowing for more gratuity (if in theme with the environment) in other situations.

Flare576 has been my handle for years, but yeah, I see your point that it seems a likely name for a troll/spammer/etc. However, I don't think I'll give it up just because other idiots have found that names-with-numbers are useful for naughty things...

» Its not just the UK

I for one don't want to import this game from the US as THAT version has already been censored by their version of the BBFC,what I would like is to be able to choose if this game is to violent for me to handle being that I'm only in my 30's! Lets hope they make the PSP & Wii PAL version include English language like they have done in the PS2 version that was released UNCENSORED in Norway.
