Mp3dA couple of interesting developments are coming out of our Development Forum this weekend. First off, let’s start with MasterPiece3D - you may remember LostJared’s release of the puzzle game MasterPiece which was compatible with 2.01+ PSP’s, well now he’s released a 3D version of the game which works on all firmware versions including 2.01+ using the eLoader. Plus it looks really cool!

Here’s where it gets kind of odd. LostJared, along with his 2.60 testing partner teknogeek1300, have come across a little trick that seems to effect the reliability of programs starting with eLoader on 2.60 firmware. For some unknown reason, removing the battery from the PSP for a few seconds and then putting it back in will help make a homebrew program initialize properly on the first try. You can download a video of this procedure and read more about the procedure below. Go check it out and report your findings.

How many trys does it usally take with out the battery trick?

Not really that surprising... removing the battery does the same thing as a hard reset - completely dumps all the memory and starts from scratch.

It's taken me 10 or more attempts to load SNES emulator.. Tetris seems more robust, loads 95% of the time.

After all this time the majority of PSP owners don't know how to turn off their hardware. Amazing. Removing the battery is never necessary in any situtation. Turning the PSP off, NOT putting it to sleep will do the exact same thing as removing the battery.

But it seems that most PSP owners are braindead teenagers who just refuse to know basic operations of the gadgets they buy.

I disagree...doesnt the PSP 'turn off' when the homebrew fails to load after about 10 seconds? and when i try again it still doesnt work...so your theory is pooched.

there's a much easier way and alternative

here's what you do: when you turn on your PSP, either from sleep mode or rebooting the whole system, don't let GTA autostart. Instead, let teh menu show up, then hold the power switch for about 3 seconds to competely shut the system offf. THEN, autoload GTA when you turn the PSP on again as this is teh equailvilant of LostJared's procedures, just less complicated.

dirtbudsmoker, you are worng sir...

Removing the battery allows NO power to the sytem, meaning no memory saving, meaning temp memory dump. Removing your battery and letting sit for 40+ seconds DOES help. I recommend checking your facts next time...

AND YES, THIS IS A PROVEN FACT!

Just hold the powerswitch up untill the PSP shuts down, when you start it again it "resets" the same way as taking out the battery..

It's a build in function like rebooting a pc, just turning the psp off puts it in a state you can compare with hibernate on a pc. It only really shuts down by holding the switch up. That's also why the battery drains a little when it's just turned off..

i used this method and it worked great but after using that method for a while it stoped working and now it takes a long time to get one working again

Hmm..that's weird. I have 2.60, and out of the 5 times I've tried loading the SNES emulator, it's worked all 5 times. I guess I'm just doing something different than everybody else.

An even easier way would be to remove the battery all together. Plug in the power adaptor. Then power up the psp. You see when you r battery is left inside., even if it appears you've done a reboot. The psp is still using the battery to store latent info about the operations that you have done that day. Now starting it up without a battery will not hurt it, but truly makes sure that you have a 'Clean' boot. Then once you have the HB werking, then put the battery in as normal,(all this time the cover was off) and make sure it's in there firm. Unplug said psp and put the hold button on, then replace the batt's cover. I can't get any simpler or cleaner than that. Cheer's hope it werks for you as it does me.

Yep :) I've tried that trick in the past, where it flashes on screen real quick :). OWNED
