In the spirit of journalistic integrity and reporting news as they come in on a 24/7 basis, we give you a post made by none other than Mathieulh of Team M33. In this statement, Math responds to recent issues involving the inner workings of the PSP homebrew development community.

To give you a little backgrounder, the PSP homebrew scene is pretty small. Remember when we played a bit of Six Degrees of Dark AleX when the whole community was at a loss on the whole OE Firmware source code leakage? This is something like that.

Just so you don't misplace this statement from Mathieulh, it's mostly in reaction to rumors going on about the coming release of Dark AleX's CFW PSP 3.80 M33.

Apparently, as a post by Brakken points out (check the Via link below for more info), and as confirmed by a lot of other people online, the "announcement" of the release of the CFW was nothing but a rumor that started from the IRC chatrooms. To begin with, Team M33 never really had a set release date for the CFW! To further quote Brakken:

This supposed release date was fabricated by a certain scene site, made it into publications which is why Dark_Alex's responded to it's delay.

For what it's worth, what seems to be confirmed now is that Dark AleX is planning to release the CFW on his site alone and no where else. As to when that might be, however, we still don't know.

Now, the interesting part, which is causing quite a lot of people online stirring, falls in Math's thoughts on the whole scene in general - that includes them, you, and us.

Homebrew developers' relations with websites. Websites' relations to advertisers, retailers, and whatnot. Users' relations with the devs themselves... All that. We're all a part of just one big circle of life [cue Lion King music].

Yes, we know that we are mentioned in Math's post (it's coming up in just a wee bit, so sit tight), but do understand that even we are effected by the whole advertising thing and that even Math himself points it out as something that is needed by the big news sites.

Our goal has always been to report all sorts of news 24/7 as they get released to keep all of you readers updated. And for the most part, that's also the reason why we think you should hear about Math's statement. To keep you guys updated on things.

So.

Without further ado, Mathieulh's post, replicated here, verbatim:

EVERYONE PLEASE BEHAVE.

This is not only about zeus or Maxconsole or even Datel. We wish to only release on dark-alex.org or through network (not even on exophase, lan or anywhere else.) for the time being for our own reasons.

Mostly because we are tired of people making money on our backs, wether it is maxconsole, qj or anyone else. That doesn't only include news sites but also shops that ILLEGALLY make money by flashing m33 firmwares on psps or even selling pandora batteries/memory sticks sets, some will ask over 50 euros per installs ! Some even have the guts to claim sending a percentage of the money to m33 or c+d when this is not true!

We took that decision not only against maxconsole but every other sites that do make money over our work. Of course most/all of news sites do exist for the purpose of making money and yet, those are needed.

We can always dream of decent sites that make news with no earning whatsoever but considering the tiresome job that it is and how time consumming it is for people to actually look for news and report it on a 24/7 basis, I doubt that we will see such a thing happening any time soon.

Nevertheless we hope to be able to move things and that such a change may happen if we keep having a fair release system between each and every psp related sites (by only releasing on our website or through network, then we do not care of what sites do of the binaries once they got those.)

Another thing we are pretty much fed up of is the "news race" that tend to happen between all sites that try to be the first to news stuffs all the time, and everyone of them try to get news from us almost every minutes despite the facts that we do have lives of our own for the sole purpose of getting ranked up on Alexa.

To be honest I like the maxconsole comunauty which seems more mature than the ones of most other sites, this is what kept and keeps me staying here, the fact that we stop releasing from that place does not mean we wont keep posting in there. I think that most sites got carried away and forgot that comunauties are before all created by the users, for the users.

P.S. I do not think that deleting the threads is a solution, and I do not believe that moderators were closing those on purpose. A forums need to be moderated. As long as we discuss of things peacefully there is no reason for a thread to be deleted, if not then indeed there is. If people start flamming, bitching or cursing all over the forums, then indeed those threads need to be deleted or closed. I personally know most of the moderators responsible for the psp section on the maxconsole forums, and I pretty much doubt that any of them would have deleted threads just to prevent anyone from express themselves or share their opinion (wether good or bad) about this forum.

Also a personal message to Brakken: We (the M33 team or even the Prometheus group) never worked for divineo even once, and even if we did, how would this be ANY of your business ? I have yet to see your so called "proofs" about us working for divineo (which do not exist since we never done such a thing) Keep in mind that we were not forced to make free releases available to everyone, we just CHOSE to do so. I can tell you for sure that we would have not if we worked for such company as divineo to begin with. Now please stop making pointless assumptions without proper evidences. Thank you for your understanding.

wow once again pspdates puts up another rumor leaving many users waiting for its release. When it comes to the statement im sure everyone in the community gives them the full backing they want. its a bit rude for other people to make money on your code. the other thing is on the bracken site alot of the article isnt on their so how they have this full article who knows. pspupdates stop the rumors, see a rumor on another site so you have to add it in

 » M33 deserves our support!

Team M33 obviously is getting frustrated with many people, we need to work with them in order for them to serve us! They didn't even need to give us anything, yet they still supply us with their amazing firmware. They really deserve our thanks, we owe it to them. If team m33 reads this, I hope they know that I am one of their die-hard fans, and I am proud to be one. I'm going to start a thread in the forum showing thanks, anyone who wants to post with me, feel free to do so.

 » All is well.

As I've said before, the FW arrives when it arrives. There is no sense in constantly refreshing the DAX.org site. Everyone will know when it is out because it will be all over the internet.

I can't blame them for these statements. People have made a lot of money off of their (and others) hard work. Hopefully the Network Update feature puts a dent in that cash flow.

Too bad more people don't take advantage of the free unbricking/downgrading list. I helped one kid who was about to pay 50 USD to get custom FW installed on his PSP. Instead, it cost his dad one hour and some gas money.

If I where team M33 (wishfull thinking....) I would make a 1 download per ip/user/email address thing.
Homebrew is to be shared freely but people are really taking advantage of their creations. That newssites have to pay their journalists with advertising is normal, if you want your homebrew to be a succes you even need newssites. But people asking €50 or more for a free thing (thats 80 bucks u.s. peeps!) and above that claim the honour for it is a bloody shame! Big programmers as they are they should be able to make a 1 download per user system, and i wouldn't blame them at all!

 » team m33 are gods

I don't know i'm just fustriated it isn't out yet i've been waiting all weekend long for it to come out. And it isn't out yet i guess it will come out when it comes out i'm just tired of people (not people that post on this site) but other sites telling me that its going to be release a certain day and its not. By rumors messes things up for everybody. And i don't blame Team M33 for doing what they are doing. Now I am new to the PSP world. I'm still learning how to do things and what the PSP is capable of but with these guys like Team M33 it makes it possible for all of us to do what we do to our PSP's So in that in mind the people who are being jerks and making money off of them and other teams in that matter knock it off cause if you continue to do so then there won't be any custom firmwares or free games or application that we can mess with. stop jerking people around who ever is doing it

   Re: jonnyp_777 - 2008-01-13
 » Please people.....

....stop say that these people are gods. Yea, then can code and share their work with us when they don't HAVE to, but it doesn't mean they're superior.

   Re: GaveUpTomorrow - 2008-01-13
 » I agree with jonnyp...

People really need to stop calling them gods, there is only one God. Besides, what they are doing can be done by almost anyone if the proper amount of work was put into it. The only difference between them and others is that they actually care about the scene and put the work into coding for it. All these people need to stop crying out that everyone owes them money as well...we owe them nothing. I am very thankful that they put all of the effort into coding the CFW, but as Math said himself, they release CFW because they want to, and they don't have to. They code CFW because they enjoy it and ts a good hobby. I do some small coding/scripting projects myself from time to time, and whether people use them or not, I could care less...I'd never even open a paypal link because I chose to do these things on my free time. Thank you guys for all of your effort, but also know that we don't owe you anything...as you don't owe us anything as well.

 » Addon Feature?

so yes that was just a rumor about m33 3.80 coming out the following day however, we all know its about to be released but was the self update feature still just a myth or is it in fact reality. i guess will just have to wait and see. i am ancious to get my hands on it!

   by Bobtentpeg - 2008-01-13
 » Seriously People

Take what Math just said to heart guys. The scene has evolved in a way no one wanted it to, and has turned into a bunch of little kids tealing eachothers toys. Seriously, we have sites paying devs, we have others making up stuff, and still others who pretend like that they make these great releases. I haave been in the scene since the PSP was released in the US, and have watched it go from a small group of very friendly people to a large group of very nice people together with a big ass group of whiny/*****y/annoying/stealing/conniving/and the list goes on, little kids(I realize that most of these "kids" are actually prepubescent 18+ yos)

Thats my rant.

and, people stop refreshing D_A's site, it wont get you anywhere and you;re just making life more difficult for him and the rest of team m33.

Happy Hacking
~bob

   Re: ValiX - 2008-01-13
 » Amen!

Amen bro. God what happened to the scene?

IMO I bet most people in the Homebrew scene wouldn't even know what DAX originally became famous for... Or who MPH was...

Most people now are all so ungrateful. Back in the days of the early Homebrew scene there was such as thing as PATIENCE! And because most of you n00bs don't seem to have any of this you piss off M33.
Back when SE and OE were released, no one rushed DaX and his team. He released killer updates because no one hassled him about when it was going to be released. Give them all a break! 3.80 M33 will come when it comes. It is provided FREE by the devs who give up their OWN time to create it.
God if I were Dax i would have left the scene permanently ages ago just to make things stop. Why do you think Dax went to leave in the first place? Whats one of the reasons you think Fanjita has left?

They should be pissed off that other people are making money from what THEY made and what THEY released to us for FREE. I agree to what hotdogbunker says, we should make a forum to thank Team M33.  » Updates

I always check dark-alex.org before anywhere else. I've been keeping a keen eye on the site waiting for 3.80.

Unfortunately the only place I can find any kind of updates is here. I never like trolling through thread after thread in various forums when QJ posts everything M33 related fairly quickly on the front page.

DAX and Math should consider linking to important threads they want to keep people updated on.

» Easy way to kill the rumor mill...

They should just post on their site (dark-alex.org) with updates from time to time. Or even have a simple little color system Red, Orange, Yellow, Blue, Green. Red = Haven't Started, Orange = Started, Yellow = About 50% done, Blue = Testing Phase, Green = Released! Make it a image, let people RSS to it, toss a little advertisement on it for the bandwidth costs and move on. No more 'believable' rumors. People can say "Its coming tomorrow" but you check the RSS feed and it shows Yellow - you know it's B.S.

My 2 cents.

   Re: WC - 2008-01-13
 » Yes!

This is absolutely correct. The way to prevent this problem is not to complain about it, or point fingers. The answer is -more- information and not less. The RSS is a very good idea and -many- sites already use it to not only save bandwidth from those wanting up-to-the-minute updates, but to encourage people to keep watching the site.

Most decent blogging softwares have an easy RSS function anyhow.

   Re: NakedFaerie - 2008-01-13
 » Sites, good and bad

This is a great idea. There will be no more beggers this way. They can see how far it is and know when its due.

M33, I always say "take your time" as we know from the past when its rushed it goes bad and we all know thats not what your about.
Who cares what the lamers on pathetic sites say. I was involved with the first lame site and now involved with the 2nd lame site. It would be good to find a great site but they might start good but all get money hungry and the quality of site/news drops and quickly goes bad. (It's not me, I just make bad choices)

Anyway, thats my rant. I know there are people that know what sites I'm talking about.

I've been visiting here for ages and now just reg'd as to me its still good. I hope the quality here doesnt go down like the others.

psp-haxors.com was always non-profit. after being created in september, it didn't have any ads until nearly september. and even then it was 1 or 2 ads to pay for hosting charges, never for self gain. That's the way it should be.

 » Thanks to Team M33

I for one applaud Team M33 and obviously Dark Alex for all their efforts. They have worked tirelessly without monetary gain for everyone in the PSP Community. I ask them to take their time without any pressure and release the next CFW when it is good and ready, whenever that may be.

I would love to see it out as soon as possible as I am torn inside to see what great additions this brings us. However, a little part of me wouldn't mind if they scratched 3.80 M33 in favor of decrypting the soon to be released 4.0 and releasing 4.0 M33. That would be just icing on the cake.

Anyhow, great work Team M33 and I anticipate a great release from you guys, whenever it may come out.
