katamari

Haven't been caught up with Me and My Katamari yet? Now would be a good chance to get on the ball, as EB Games/Gamestop stores are now selling this cute little game for only $20.

For those of you not quite sure of what this game is, here's a brief intro: The King of the Cosmos and the Royal Family are taking a vacation from all their work creating the...umm...Cosmos, when the King accidentally creates a tsunami and wipes out a nearby island. As the crown prince, it's your job to help gather materials from nearby areas to help repair the damage, which you do by rolling ANYTHING up into a ball, be it paperclips, mice, cars, people, ships or Godzilla. Anything.

This is the third installment in the games series and was the first to be ported to a portable player, the first being Katamari Damacy, followed by We Love Katamari. While this installment of the game didn't match up to its previous versions, it's still a fun and funny game to pick up for your PSP.

It's not the greatest of the three by any margin. There's no new stage music (only music for the islands where you select levels, check records, swap clothes, etc), and aside from a couple special stages, there's only three size areas, and each of the goals has you just reaching a certain goal within a section of that stage. The content of the area varies based on time of day (randomly determined by the game), but after playing through about 2/3s of the game, I felt like I was just doing the same thing over and over, and I never got that sensation playing the other two games. The Chameleon and Ape stages are the pretty fun.

Oh, and the control is difficult to get used to. At least it doesn't use the nub.

The credits game is far and away the best thing on the disc though.

I never played the others, so I can't compare, but I think the PSP version is definitely a great game. It works very well as a portable experience, the graphics are pretty good, the gameplay keeps it entertaining throughout. It's a steal at $20 - pick it up, especially if you haven't played any Katamari before.

 » difficult controls

this game is impossible to play on the PSP control scheme. My fingers cramped so many times, and basically the game is just suited for analog sticks.

I just bought it and it doesnt load on 2.71 SA-A (error 8002012D). I thought this firmware was so cool I wouldn't need devhook =/.
