Nintendo DS handheld - Image 1It seems like Nintendo has finally broken Sony's grip over the Japanese video games hardware market. The latest numbers from Media Create tell of how DS sales have recently outsold the PlayStation Portable by a narrow margin.

Nintendo owes much of its success to several DS software titles that have been listed during the previous week's top software sales charts. Despite the number one title being native to the PSP (Phantasy Star Portable), no less than five DS titles have carved a comfortable niche in software charts, most of which were remakes.

Anyway, here are the details of the software and hardware sales charts for the week of August 4 to August 10:
  1. Phantasy Star Portable (PSP) - Sega
  2. Fire Emblem: Shin Ankoku Ryuu to Hikari no Ken (NDS) - Nintendo
  3. Rhythm Tengoku Gold (NDS) - Nintendo
  4. Tales of Vesperia (Xbox 360) - Namco Bandai
  5. Dragon Quest V: Tenkuu No Hanayome (NDS) - Square Enix
  6. Sangokushi Taisen Ten (NDS) - Sega
  7. Summon Night 2 (NDS) - Banpresto
  8. Wii Fit (Wii) - Nintendo
  9. Mario Kart Wii (Wii) - Nintendo
  10. Soul Calibur IV (PS3) - Namco Bandai
  1. DS Lite - 60,434
  2. PSP - 58,501
  3. Wii - 38,506
  4. Xbox 360 - 24,962
  5. PS3 - 9,673
  6. PS2 - 8,503

 » yup you missed news

PSP had been outselling DS in Japan for several weeks.

   Re: chessboxer - 2008-08-15
 » not weeks,

months. The PSP had been the top selling hardware for around 6 or so months.

I see the 360 has also outsold the PS3. That won't last long though. The PS2 normally sells 3x as much as the 360.

There ARE several weeks within 6 or so months. I suppose the way I said it makes it seem less impressive; so sue me.
