Mercury Meltdown

There's a PSP demo of the new puzzle game Mercury Meltdown now available on Sony's official Japanese PSP page. Unfortunately, you'll need Firmware 2.80 to run this...still, it's always cool to see downloadable demos of upcoming games.

The full version of Mercury Meltdown hits shelves on August 28.

To save you the effort of browsing through Sony's cryptic PSP site, we've put the demo up for download on our servers. Put the EBOOT.PBP in a folder called "UCJS10043" in your PSPGAME directory, and it should work fine!

Thanks for the tip, PSMonkey!!

Finally a good reason to upgrade from 2.01 to a higher firmware, I've waited long enough for a downgrader and since there isn't one I just have to upgrade the damn thing.

 » Update!

Please update.

Reason 1: These firmware fanboys have NOTHING to show in terms of quality software. It's all no-sound, poor-visual, low-frame-rate, buggy, beta, junk. Commercial companies are the only ones who can produce quality.

Reason 2: Firmware 1.51 cannot be hacked. Firmware 2.0 cannot be hacked. Firmware 2.01 cannot be hacked. Firmware 2.5 cannot be hacked... yada, yada, yada. It's constantly being hacked - even though we have been told TIME AND TIME AGAIN that upgrading is a dead end. It has yet to be proven so.

Upgrade. Enjoy. Join us in 2006 before it's over.

Get some real facts.
Developers in the homebrew community have
gone out of thier way just to create homebrew for the PSP. Atleast have some respect before calling homebrew crap.

BTW:
The only low quilty homebrews come from LUA
developers which are new to the
PSP Scene and developing.
Theres also alot of extreme great quality homebrew
in the scene already like:
Dance Dance Revolution,
Devhook, Squarez, Snes, N64, GBA,
PMP, iRShell, PSPosx. PSiX, PSP Radio,
PSP IR Remote and many, many, more!

 » @#7....

You dont have Devhook.Or maybe you had 2.71 and there is no downloader yet..... and thats why you updated.
I can be happy with 1.5 and still play tekken when it comes out..... without updating.
Maybe comercial games are better looking... but doesnt mean that they are good( alot of them are bad games).
now your are stuck with the commercial games only... and can enjoy the HB games that people make for us for FREE.

 » yeah ummm...

a new firmware to go and try to hack, i wish they support homebrew one way or another damn sony, oh well, update if ur past 2.6 if ur not don't bother for wats out dar right now.

by Not Living in the Past (Unregistered) - 2006-07-27
 » Please!

Yawn. Don't tell me I can't call it crap. People call HSG crap because it simply doesn't appeal to them. I consider GTA crap because it corrupts the youth of America. Calling something crap is an opinion.

As far as DDR, the concept is stolen.

As far as SNES, GBA, etc. Uh, you are illegally using ROMs to play these games.

I have Lumines. I don't need squarz.

IR Remote??? I'm with #8.

So as far as getting "some real facts", I've seen enough homebrew and warnings not to update to make my eyes bleed. Did I say that developers didn't work hard? No. If they want to waste their time creating crap, they have the right to.

Who said snes and gba didn't have homebrew too?
If you seriously want to avoid homebrew that bad
then be my guest!
But don't go around giving people false information
about upgrading, thats just low.

P.S
Homebrew and not to update warning where thier for the people who embrace homebrew, it was definatley not meant for the like's of you.

I give it 'till tomorrow morning till Devhook adds this *new* firmware.

Does this work with devhook fw 2.71?

   by szzzzt (Unregistered) - 2006-07-27
 » To #20

Nope, this does not work with Devhook 2.71 as it will only run on 2.80 firmware. Just wait until Booster updates Devhook to emulate 2.80.

   by ZOLTRIX - 2006-07-27
» -_- My bad. I i forgot about the new firmware XD

But Loco Roco and that other one will work i assume?

   by RaiderX - 2006-07-27
 » I woudln't even bother...

Look what they did to this amazing game... :'( sad really, its total utter garbage now. Crappy cartoon cell shaded graphics.

Mercury was great for its elegant realistic graphics.

   by szzzzt (Unregistered) - 2006-07-27
» Demos that work with 2.71 firmware...

I believe that the only demos that work with 2.71 firmware are the LocoRoco one and the Sudoku one. The other ones require 2.80.

by mr toasty (Unregistered) - 2006-07-27
 » quite fun

Well, it was, till my psp took a flight down the stairs ; ;

Anyhow, I wish that Sony had supported homebrew from the start, but somehow disabled the UMD drive so UMD dumping could never have happened and we'd all have homebrew now.

by Mr. Common Sense (Unregistered) - 2006-07-27
 » Don't do it man!

Don't you see? It's all a trick. It's not worth it! Buy the original Mercury if this game appeals to you. Firmware updates are the devil. Sony can't be reasoned with; they're evil. Don't turn to the dark side of the PSP!

If you want to update, fine. Update your psp, then stick it where the sun dont shine sideways for being a prick and trying to give false information. No one asked you to come to a website that mainly updates us on homebrew news and rag on homebrew. Go find some commercial news site that you can drool over kiddo we dont need you here.

 » wow

well now i wait on 2.8 devhook...

what is the point of the demos if they only make 1 or two of them to use?

anyone who likes homebrew and all of the high quality apps/games like pspradio, irshell, pimpstreamer, luamines, devhook .45,PSPRevolution(DDR), daedalus,PSPVBA(GBA),SNES TYL,SBA, and tons of others should not update to 2.8. even if you have a 2.6 you dont have to update... on front page there is hope for 2.6 users with ta-082 and for the other 2.6 users they can downgrade to 1.5.

Whenever updates come out... at least give it a week or two before doing it. I say this because now that we have devhook we can test firmwares out up to 2.71 right now, and hopefully 2.8 in the next couple of days. All i am saying is test a firmware before updating so that you dont make a mistake and do something that you might regret.

now back to me waiting on devhook with 2.8 support(i call this the time that i can play Syphon Filter:Dark Mirror online and other UMDS that i own cause isos are bad)
