If you're one of those PSP owners who have become hooked on Play-Asia and their amazing deals, you might wanna sit tight and read through this article 'cuz this week's special at Play-Asia is the very cheaply priced Mercury Meltdown. Play-Asia is now taking orders for Mercury Meltdown and they're selling it for...*drumroll*... US$8.90! Talk about real price meltdown, huh? You'll get to save US$24 by taking advantage of this offer. Err, well actually you have to pay for shipping too so wait, (sorry I'm awful at numbers) all in all that'll be US$12. Still an awesome deal, right? But don't even think of getting all greedy with Mercury 'cuz orders are limited to five units per person, and if you ARE planning on getting copies from Play-Asia, make sure you place your orders soon 'cuz the offer expires in four days. So if you don't have the game yet, what are y'all waiting for? Go get one now! |

Okay, to start things off - and head off potential hostile comments and lawsuits, this story is not about bricked handhelds! (Damn, the challenges of making snappy titles...) Okay, now that's out of the way, Mercury Meltdown arrives in stores today! The successor to Archer Maclean's Mercury sends players through more wild and insane puzzles featuring the blob of that temperature-sensing, hated-by-Greenpeace element of the periodic table. This sequel's got more color, as opposed to Archer's more industrial look. It also tweaks certain elements from the first game, such as time limits, to make the game accessible to the beginner, but still a brain-busting challenge in spite of it all. Your standard blob of mercury now features four distinct states: normal, rock-solid, molasses-slow cold, and Sonic-burning hot forms that changes the way players must navigate all those mazes. If you're in the mood for puzzles to burn your PSP time with, or if you enjoyed Archer Maclean's Mercury, then Mercury Meltdown is the perfect buy. And we reiterate again: this isn't about bricking PSPs. Brain-busting challenges may brick your brain, though. Buy: [Mercury Meltdown] |

Mercury Meltdown, a game involving weird blobs of mercury, has a new video that shows how the game was developed - from sketches to the final design of the game. The game has features over 160 game levels, game share and downloadable content, free-form progression, and five unlockable mini-games.Just like its predecessor, Archer Maclean's Mercury, the idea is to guide the blobs of mercury to reach the destination, by tilting the playing area. The sequel has more levels and it features a progression system wherein the levels are specifically designed to minimize as many camera problems as possible. All stages in a lab are now accessible when the lab is unlocked, allowing players to decide whether to try another stage to progress. Check out the video for some intense blob of mercury action. For anyone who has not played the Japanese demo of the puzzle game Mercury Meltdown but is still interested in it, we have some new screens in store for you folks. Developed and published by Ignition Entertainment, the sequel to one of the PSP's best puzzlers is out in Europe by September 28, but U.S. gamers won't be able to see it in store shelves until a month later. Despite the all-new art style, Mercury Meltdown's
gameplay still consists of guiding a liquid blob to the end of a maze,
avoiding traps, door switches, spikes, moving floors and other
hazardous elements in over 160 levels. With this simplicity in gameplay
and high potential for addictiveness, this title will hopefully be
making it as one of the best puzzle games for the PSP this year.

There's a PSP demo of the new puzzle game Mercury Meltdown now available on Sony's official Japanese PSP page. Unfortunately, you'll need Firmware 2.80 to run this...still, it's always cool to see downloadable demos of upcoming games. To save you the effort of browsing through Sony's cryptic PSP site, we've put the demo up for download on our servers. Put the EBOOT.PBP in a folder called "UCJS10043" in your PSPGAME directory, and it should work fine! Thanks for the tip, PSMonkey!! Download: [Mercury Meltdown Demo] |

A sequel to Mercury, the inventive puzzle game released when the PSP launched last year was announced a while ago, now Ignition Entertainment has given Mercury Meltdown a release date: In Europe, you can officially get your hands on the game this September. In Mercury Meltdown, now featuring an all-new visual style, players once again take the role of the liquid "blob", and avoid lots of obstacles and hazards on the way to the goal. The sequel has expanded on this unique premise with the introduction of 4 states the blob can have - Normal, Solid, Fast and Slow. With those new states, more complex levels and new challenges are possible, making the game even more fun. Besides this, the developers have doubled the number of levels to a total of more than 160. The added Downloadable Content feature promises even more levels, and when players have finally come around to beating all these challenges the new Wireless 2-player modes provide 5 sub games to play against a friend or the computer.
