What is this? It's a dissapointment in my opinion. This should be considered a 0.2 beta, not a 2.0 release.
I cant wait to see the arguments about monkey's and dadealuses emulators...not really though...i dont care
how much fps we getting on this thing?
Deserves more jumps...
...This Emulator does not compare to "you know who's" I'm sure he put a lot of work into this, and in a way I feel bad that the other guy is getting so much applause while PSMonkey is getting flamed left and right. But, competition makes for a better emulator I suppose.
hes made great progress since the last relaease but this is nowhere as far as i thought or probly anyone thought hed be the other n64 emu is alot better then this one but i think that in the future this one could actually be better so keep it up and thanks psmonkey for your time and dedication to do this
this emulator is built from ground up so its a big achievment
Keep in mind, that this is an emulator written from scratch, and not a port. Daedalus's port is faster from what I have heard, but only by a little (not really noticable).
PSMonkey never stated that this was better in performance. Remember, just about a year ago we thought of the N64 emulation as impossible, unimaginable, but now it is a reality! Support all those that contribute, PSMonkey has worked his .. off :p
Because that works on this Emu, and quite well i might add.
i have a gay generic name too lol
You are all ungrateful cry babies.
Grow up and understand that Monkey is in fact ahead of strmnnrmn due to the fact that Monkey's emulator was built from the ground up.
In case you haven't realized... Monkey has so much room to optimize his emulator while strmnnrmn can't so sh*t with his because his is just a sloppy port.
Monkey put so much hard work into all this and all you f*cking children can do it complain. Could you do any better? I didn't think so.
AMAZING work Monkey... don't be pressured by these children... no need to worry about little 12 year olds who know nothing about coding and/or porting.
all of you noobs sitting at home and touching yourselves STOP FLAMING!!!! this is a REAL emulator, im not flamin strmnnrms emulator, but that is just a port and not a real one, plus he even admmited to having to rewrite his like monkey did, this has much more potential, KEEP IT UP MINKEY@@@
which one has better framerates. also, does this support full-screen?
dont diss out monkey, he worked very hard. also the daedalus programmer has said that he was going to completelyy redesign the core of the emu. then we'll see whos emu is better.
You are all useless. None of you do anything except whine like the little children you are.
Congrats to the author of this software - you made it work, and you'll make it better.
jeez...some of you people are REALLY immature. Just back off...do you really think you could've done a better job than this? Gawd, you guys are treating the homebrew developers like EA (point: EA deserves criticism - the homebrew guys don't...they're working with like, no resources...)
Thanks to Poster 18, your right, psp updates is full of ungrateful idiots who don't know the amount of works it would take to do something like this. Good Job PSmonkey, i look forward to some further releases.
I heart monkey and strmn nrmn
Seriously. We aren't going to see a fully playable N64 Emu for a while. There's a kind of clockspeed ratio rule of thumb for Emulators, which is that, at a bare minimum, you need a processor four or five times faster than the system you're emulating to get it running. The N64 had a 94MHz processor, while the PSP's processor is only 333MHz.
Granted, this release isn't even at beta level, and I doubt any worthwhile N64 games are playable (games that used only sprites notwithstanding). But you have to realize that this is a huge undertaking. These Emu programmers need encouragement or else we're NEVER going to be playing Goldeneye or Starfox 64 on our PSPs. Well done, Monkey, keep up the good work. The same for Daedalus.
I've been using console emulators for over ten years now, and I can remember when the Super NES wasn't even playable on the PC. They had a semi-working emu called "Virtual Super Magicom" which actually cost money. I still think that the PSP has great things ahead of it as far as emulators.
What really interests me is if the PSPs CPU is capable of virtualizing. Did you guys know the N64 and PSP both use the same series processor, the MIPS RISC R4000? Now, of course, there are major differences, but the fact remains that the processors might be very similar, and thus, could execute a majority of the same code.
Now if only someone could put the same amount of attention and work into a good SMS/Game Gear Emu as they did with RIN and NesterJ.
If you were really a coder as you say you are... then you should have known that strmnnrmn's emulator will never work good and that is the reason as to why his needs ot be re-written... basically meaning he is now behind Monkey.
You obviously know nothing... your just a strm fanboy and came up with a BS reason to bash Monkey for his efforts.
Oh yeah... as a "Coder"... shouldn't you be supportive? Hmm.. .very odd...
Such fools.
Those who are flaming are those whom keep repeating theirselves and posting a comment which has been posted so many times.
Im only going to say this on behalf of PSmonkey as he cant stand the guests who post here.
1. Monkey 64 does have a rather long compatability list (believe me i have tested lots of roms (all 4mb and 8mb ). Im a tester of course :)
2. YEs it supports full screen
3. The emulator is not really optimised here
4. I dont care whos emu is better as long as they are helping each other, thats the main thing
5. Ground up or not. Its a reality that N64 will be possible on the PSP in the future.
6. Anyone who doesnt like this emu well dont say a thing. You are putting yourself down by using it.. if you dont like it then dont use it. Simple.
7. Putting other people down shouldnt be on here. Its bullying
Wally
I find it extremely odd that this emulator was started from scratch, when it took Zilmar & Jabo 5 years to get Project 64 where it is today. It took Jabo 5 years with his graphics plugin to get to the status it now occupies, and it's still being constantly improved. Azimar toyed with his HLE audio for years and it's still not perfect. These are three of the best emulator coders around that didn't achieve as much success as you (as part of a team) in such a short space of time.
I would hazard a guess that you're borrowing heavily from sources, and in that, you're standing on the shoulders of giants, professing to be one yourself. And you're aiming for 60fps in 6 months? How are you going to manage that? I have a sneaky suspicion that your speed boost will follow on closely (within weeks) of StrmnNmn's Dynarec Engine release, knowing full well he will release the source.
StrmnNmn is the original author of daedalus, and is adapting his own work to best suit the limitations of the PSP. He is well respected around the N64 scene and has been part of it for years, you could say he's been there and done it all. He's borrowed from nobody but himself, and he's rebuilding and adapting most of it to reach his goal.
So, i will welcome the release of your source code, so that i can go over it with a fine toothed comb, and pick out the coding styles that i am 99% sure you're ripping work from.
You did say that you would release it, didn't you?
I seriously doubt that you're anywhere near the calibre of the aforementioned authors, so quite how you're going to get this to a playable state within six months, knowing the technical difficulties of the N64 hardware, is beyond me.
Standing on the shoulders of giants? I think so.
Pspupdates were slow to get this news as usual. Carry on not giving people credit for news they send you and you will only get slower.
the other coder is not rewriting his core...you should know what you are talking about. He is simply starting the dynamic recompiler, and psmonkey will do the same soon..
on another note gj monkey...these people dont even understand that this is not 100% optimized and then when u finish optimizations and a dynamic recompiler they will be bowing down to you!
Keep it going Monkey, your an amazing coder!
good work Pspmonkey. looks like right now your a step ahead of Daedalus. cant wait for new updates.
leave monkey alone
this is a newly built emu from scratch not a quick port
this could end up much better then the other one eventually
u jerks and whingers this is not a competition
This is some really good advancement from a ground up N64 emulator. I'm a 100%, true blue supporter of PSMonkey. really wanna see what he'll put out next.
Amazing progress, can't wait to see the next step in the developement of this promising emulator !
don't download the other one either.
these are works in progress. seriously, how many of you actually have gone through any decent portion of any of daedalus' 4 fps roms? how many of you are actually going to keep a 4 fps max on your psp and honestly play it a lot?
these are all works in progress, and the main point in hteir release is so we can try stuff out with it, report bugs, and get rid of speculation that these guys just sitting with thumbs up hteir asses and actually coding things. that's one thing hombrew guys have over hte big companies, is LOTS of willing testers that don't need to be paid.
Also, this complaining wil only lead to fewer and fewer homebrew developers releasing early versions. think about it, they don't release earlier versions because they get dumbasses expecting a perfect game even though the dev quite clearly says it's a beta, don't expect much from it. then the dumbass complains, and jsut wastes time.
point is, if you want to try this thing out, and keep tabs on what works, how well, what doesn't, and other things, get this. if you are expecting playable speed games, DO NOT GET THIS OR DAEDELUS.
