Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G -- released as Monster Hunter Freedom Unite in North America and Europe -- has made history in Japan by earning the distinction of being the first PlayStation Portable title to ship over 3.5 million copies, Capcom has announced. The game, which was first released in March of 2008, went on to ship 2.5 million copies in seven months. A "Best" version, released in October last year, then went on to ship a further one million copies. Both versions are counted in the final 3.5 million unit tally. The game is also getting a pair of new PSP bundles later this month, so that number could still conceivably go up. The Capcom press release also announced Monster Hunter Festa '09, an event to be held in Japan this August. Capcom aims to use the event to bring fans of the game together in celebration of all things Monster Hunter. Related articles:

But it still doesn't sell good enough to offer US/EU players online multiplayer. Great.

well, their MH also doesn't have online using infrastructure mode... they only have, officially, ad-hoc party (ps3), and we can have that too (using a 'fake' japan psn account, but who cares)
with all this advertisement of MHFU here, if it sells good hopefully we will have ad-hoc party officially too!
