Can't wait for Monster Hunter Freedom 2 to come out? Guys at the GameFAQs forums sure can't. Some of them have already invested hours playing the Japanese version, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd, while some are anticipating a patch that would translate most essential text to English.

A poster by the name of ZealOfSoul claims to be working on a patch with proof to back him up. He posted several images on the forum and uploaded a video on YouTube. Most of the menus in his Japanese version of MHP2nd are now in English, from the title screen to in-game. Shops are complete with translated item descriptions. Dialogues and quest descriptions are still in Japanese though.

Many are still skeptic about this, being too good to be true. Other posters say he used image or video editing tools, but others state that translation isn't much of a big deal with the PSP. The method mostly suggested that ZealOfSoul is using is extracting the ISO and editing the text there.

In his last update, ZealOfSoul stated that the patch is in beta stage. Errors are still being removed here and there, but it looks like all the important stuff are translated. He's also still deciding how (if ever at all) to release his work, after receiving so much requests to share what was supposed to be a project for him and his friends alone.

I've been tracking the progress of this translation and its funny to see how many people always thought it was a fake over at Gamefaqs

 » not good

This is probably more attention to what he is doing than what ZealOfSoul would have liked.

I doubt this article is going to help him decide to release it, if anything i imagine it doing the opposite.

Why would he translate it and not rls? Just so he can say "i have engrish version u not!"?
Stop being a dumb*****...

he doesn't come across as someone that is fine releasing an iso to the public, he is worried that capcom might sue him.

I says originally he was just doing this for himself and his friends, at the end of the day he doesn't need everyone else to have an english translation version of the game.

   Re: KUYA (Unregistered) - 2007-06-05
 » or better yet

why not contact capcom and make a business transaction for as the official person to translate to english, beneficial for both him and capcom. then capcom can then release it right after a multiple thorough inspection.

^so you don't know what a patch is?
he doesn't need to release an iso, just the patch, that will patch any regular iso...damn you noobs....
anyway, it is a guy from gamefaqs, so it is a lie, end of story

   Re: chippxero - 2007-06-04

at the moment it's not in a patch form though, at the moment it is just a patched iso read the gamefaqs thread for details.

If one person can do this this quick... why are we waiting months for a translated version?

   by Neonix (Unregistered) - 2007-06-04
 » Just wait for English

Is it that hard to wait? Making a patch for a game that is going to be released in English is a waste of time. I'm going to go check up on that Mother 3 patch now, something that's worth patching.

   Re: akadewboy (Unregistered) - 2007-06-04
 » Yeah

I agree, this reminds me of all the zero-day Pokemon translation hacks that always come out and then quickly disappear once the official translation is released. In my opinion if you're going to hack something, choose something that will never come to the states and make it worthwhile.

 » Translated version

Patching the ISO is seeming easy to be done, as many PSP ISO games in Japanese has already been translated to Chinese(including MHP2 90% done already), and translating a game by patch is nth new in China....

Could've been the TC

The topic creator can only delete a topic if it has no posts, the most he can do is lock it if there are no posts within a half hours time.

GameFAQs is community modded, meaning that the users flag content.

It wasn't the mods, but someone with a vendetta.

It's not like an english patch is something new, I had an english patch for Tales of Eternia before it came out in Europe.
It could very well be true.

a good one would be if some1 translated Homestar Portable from japanese to english, coz i think this app will never be released anywhere exept the far east - which is a shame...

Du côté outre-manche; on reste attentif à l'évolution de la traduction; Même si on est pas fan de l'anglais; c'est toujours mieux que le Japonais.

Vivement la mise à disposition de l'iso (du moins on l'espère).

You all do knwo that it is easy to edit files of a psp iso and translate them right? the only hard part is knowing japanese and english, and the TIME it takes. the first psp game translated to my knowledge was Tenchu. i have a customized english translated version of tenchu, before it hit europe/usa and is the japanese version. if you wish to jump to the "its fake" conclusion, than pick something a little unrealistic....like a Xbox emulator for PSP video lmao. this project, is more realistic/possible then 90% of the shlt you read about PSP. its been done with many other psp games, why not MHP2?
My main words of help is that he better jump on the ball with it, the more he messes around and doesnt finish/release it, the CLOSER the release date for the usa gets. :)
