In what seems to be a copyright snafu in Europe, Sony does not own the tradmarks to the PSP, UMD, or XMB names. These names are, in fact, not all owned by the same company or person, the PSP trademark is owned by ElectricBirdLand, the UMD's is owned by Olympus Corporation, and the XMB's isn't currently owned.

Sony is now pursuing these trademarks and threating legal action with Cease and Desist orders. If Sony is unable to secure these tradmarks soon the European launch will see another delay. Sony could also face more court room battles. Just recently, Sony had to pay up for patent violations from the Dual Shock controllers.

Gamers in Europe are itching to get their hands on a PSP after months and months of waiting already. These tradmark troubles only have effect in Europe and all the American trademarks of the PSP and all other Sony realated materials are in order.
