Dissidia Ultimania - Image 1Yesterday's article on the Dissidia: Final Fantasy Ultimania guidebook was sheer joy for the FF geek. Now, we're upping the ante. Thanks once again to jack_gllghr, no less (you rock, man!). Just as promised, Keiya (the guy who was able to post some pics of the Ultimania guide) has updated with some translations.

Oh, and TLDR, my foot!

If you're an FF-geek, consider this a crash course on 20 years' worth of limit breaks, final attacks, and the lot. This is, after all, about Dissidia's characters' EX Modes. That's where you get to unleash hell on your opponent.

We're posting jack_gllghr's 2-part email here in full; unrefined, undiluted. It lists characters' EX Modes in chronological order from FFI characters to FFX.

Keiya has updated his photo album, and has provided some ExMode Translations!

  • Warrior of Light slashes through his opponents like a "Dazzling Flash". Six Slashes, each needing a D-Button press.
  • Garland changes the form of his sword for his EX Mode. You need to Mash Circle for it to work.
  • Yes, after Firion slashes the opponent with his sword, spear, axe, dagger, and bare hands, he will launch all of his weapons from his bow as a final strike. How awesome is that? The command is similar to Auron's Bushido: 5 Buttons you have to press as quickly as possible.
  • The Emperor will literally dominate you and then blow you up with his EX Burst. You need to press the button that's flashing on the screen to execute his EX burst, and you need to do it five times.
  • We all know Onion Knight's specials. Just make sure you select Shuriken and Holy really fast.
  • Cloud of Darkness fires her Particle Cannon a la Shiva from FFVIII and FFX. You need to hold the Circle Button down until the meter reaches 120%.
  • Cecil's Double Phase starts with Paladin slashes, then he uses the original FFIV version of Darkside from Dark Knight mode, and then finishes off with a cross-shaped slash in Paladin mode. It looks like for him, you need to press both a D-Button and a Face Button at the same time for three commands, and it's up how fast you can input.
  • Golbez first makes his Shadow Dragon attacks, and then he finished the opponent with Double Meteo. His input style is similar to Cecil, but it seems to be based on timing instead of speed (you have to press the buttons as they pass by, a la DDR or Renzokuken)
  • Bartz attacks four times, each time with two different swords equipped (the first is Buster Sword + Brotherhood), and ends by combining all Eight Swords into his own for Brave Blade (I'm assuming it's all swords except Terra's and his own). You need to input two D-Buttons every time he attacks with a two-sword slash.
  • Exdeath will imprison his opponent in a super gravity field, shrink them, and crush them in his hands. Hold Circle until the bar goes down to 0 for his EX burst.
  • Terra transforms into her Esper Mode, and attacks with Riot Sword, her signature attack. You need to tap both a D-Button AND a Face Button very quickly in order to build up the bar. And as with the other EX Bursts, the faster you build it up, the stronger it gets.
  • Kefka's EX burst is now rightly named Light of Judgment, and it's where he uses the power of the Warring Triad to smite enemies down with his powerful Light Cannon. You will need to memorize three D-Button commands given to you by the three symbols, and input them as quickly and accurately as possible.
  • Cloud's Super Ultimate War God Supreme Decapitation(Omnislash) is similar to the FFVII version, and I think it needs no explanation. You mash the circle button as fast as you can to break the Limit Gauge.
  • Sephiroth's Supernova has been toned down from its ridiculous cutscene in FFVII, but he makes up for it by throwing his opponent straight into the Supernova. Like Cloud, mash the Circle Button quickly to break the Limit Gauge.
  • Squall's Renzokuken is largely unchanged from FFVIII, with the exception that Lion Heart is now limited to the last blow (so Cloud gets the entire Omnislash put in, but Squall doesn't?). You need to time the pressing of the R Button right to cause the damage to be 100% Critical.
  • Ultimecia's Time Compression fires multiple magic arrows onto the opponent, and she finishes the opponent off with Apocalypse, only here it's called End of Memories. The attack is similar to Squall's (toned-down) Renzokuken, although you press Circle instead of R to fire.
  • Zidane's Reverse Gaia, as shown in the tutorial, is a series of quick, relentless slashes. You need to mash circle to fill up the four bars and make the finisher hit a lot of times.
  • Kuja's Last Requiem works in the same principle as Zidane's Reverse Gaia, only instead of slashing the opponent, he prefers to rain down Ultima on them. Mahsing Circle will also make the Finale very strong.
  • Tidus' Blitz Ace remains largely unchanged from the original. You still have to line up the arrow in the middle, and the less time you consume, the bigger the damage will be.
  • Jecht's Blitz King is beyond epic; after slashing the opponent, Jecht Shots a gigantic boulder into the opponent before destroyed the boulder with a JEKUTOOOOOO FINGAAAAAAAAAA, causing the boulder to both hit the opponent AND shower him/her with debris. You need to do a Blitz Ace timing maneuver for both the Jecht Shot AND the JEKUTOOOO FINGAAAAA.
Justice served to the FF fanbase, what, what! Square Enix's tribute to Final Fantasy's 20th anniversary is looking more epic than ever!

Big shout out to jack_gllghr! Many thanks, you little FF critter, you! Good job!

 » That;s not all!

Keiya dropped us this on the forums before he went to bed

For now, I leave you with the equipment system:

- You get to equip one item per hand (for those who can dual wield or use a shield), a helmet, an armor, and three accessories.

- You can trade/buy/sell items via the shop.

- You can also trade items from friends.

 » cloud strife

i wish cloud had that one special attack that he used to kill Sephy at the end of FFVII: Advent Children. man, that would be awesome!

and i hope cloud has "Zack Fair" as an alternate costume. That would be pretty cool too.

 » Well..

Cloud doesn't have a Zack costume(If there is more than one alternate costume he still may..) and the attack you're talking about is Omnislash Version 5, which may or may not be in this, seeing as AC Cloud is confirmed as an extra costume.
IMO there won't be more than one ExBurst for each character, sorry so no Omni Ver.5

"Golbez first makes his Shadow Dragon attacks, and then he finished the opponent with Double Meteo"

i only played the FFVII games, but i have a quick question. Is "meteo" supposed to be "meteor"?

 » Lol

Yea, Basically. I don't know how it's translated in certain english versions, but I'm playing the fan translation of FF IV and it's translated as Meteo in that version. So yea.. lol. It isn't as such a huge deal as Meteor in FF VII though.....

 » That's dumb

I guess they don't want attention to go to Squall rather than Cloud so they limit his limit break. $queenix still isn't done squeezing people's wallet with all this Cloud s***. I used to like the FF7 franchise until they added all this sequels(the prequel would have sufficed). The sad thing about this is that people still bite to them. Face it people the moment Squaresoft became Square Enix there hasn't been any revolutionary games.
