Manhunt 2 - Image 1

The National Institute of Media and the Family (NIMF) has chimed in on the recent news that Take-Two Interactive has opted to suspend distribution of Manhunt 2. In their recent statement, the NIMF was more or less pleased by the occurrences, calling it "a victory for parents and children."

Regarding the ESRB's handling of the matter, the NIMF had only praises for them. Said their statement,

Because of the their thoughtful decision to give Manhunt 2 its strongest rating, 'Adults Only,' the ESRB has sent a strong message to Take-Two and other game makers that they no longer can push the envelope on gratuitous violence in videogames. The ESRB showed real leadership in assigning this rating and further evidence it is making significant progress in keeping extremely violent and graphic materials out of children's hands.

According to the IGN report, the NIMF has yet to play the game, basing its decision on the trailers viewable on the internet, as well on the fact that the game makes the player act out the violence prevalent in the game.

For more of the statements made by the NIMF, feel free to check out the link below for the full statement they gave.

» A victory for Lazy Parents

Oh what a day that we basically start to sensor Media and a companys first amendment right to free speech. Parents are the ones that have to be responsible for the media that gets into the hands of their children. What's the difference between Manhunt 2 and Saw 1, 2, or 3. - at the movies you have to be w/ an adult to see it.. but when it gets on dvd, first come first serve. I definitely hope that Take Two can fight the ESRB's decision, because whose to say that ESRB won't make the same popularity judgment of an AO rating against GTA IV. The entire video game industry should be behind Take Two... on one side they say that the consoles are being purchased by the 25 and up crowd, yet the 18 and up crowd are being punished, responsible 18 and ups, and adults, are punished.. just to cover the lazy parents everywhere... congrats.. its your day indeed lazy parents...

STUPID F**KING A**HOLE CENSOR PRICKS!!

Thomas makes a good point, like what about Hostel?. That was pretty much a porn/gore fest, and kids can get their hands on that. It's all because of those stupid-ass parents (not all of them, just the stupid-ass ones) who are irresponsible. THEY are the ones buying the media for their kids, and once the transaction of money and media are complete, anything that happens from then on is in the consumers hands. But no, instead they buy this game and blame the companies. Their argument is pretty much this:

"HEY, I just bought this gory game without thinking and after being warned that it's an ADULTS ONLY game, I put it in the hands of my child. AND IT'S YOUR FAULT COS' I DON'T WANT TO LOOK LIKE A BAD PARENT"

It's all BS if you ask me.

it wasnt sony who said they dont want AO games on their system, PS2 has a couple AO games already.

It was NINTENDO who said none of their consoles will ever have an AO game, not Sony. Sony jus said they dont want it anymroe cuz if its AO barely any copies will sell due to the fact that nearly no major retailers carry AO games.

There is no problem with your sensitivity to these kinds of things. But you have a right to NOT buy the game. No one is forcing you to play it. But don't violate our right "as adults" to enjoy the game, or the right of developers to create it.

   Re: Brutuz (Unregistered) - 2007-06-23
 » As GODzilla said

If you don't want the game, then don't but it or play it, others want the game, its like you telling ESRB to ban a new Spiderman game because you think Spiderman is crap, just not right.

How about I start putting up petions or something to ban Mormons, Buddhists or Christians just because I'm not one?
That is what your doing in essence.

Stop getting involved overcaring parents, if you over care this much, get your kids to stop doing whatever is wrong, not other people's kids. It's either you have a problem with video game violence (which you might of never even played) or your kids are all crazy and will surely kill people after playing this game. Well unlike your kids, we don't do things in such a way. I'm sure after playing Manhunt, I will go take an ax murder my whole family, my whole subdivision, then get shot down by the cops. I'm sure you'll see me on the news. SYKE

» Why is Manhunt 1 still on the Shelves then....?

this game is still on the Shelves on PC / XBOX / PS2

In Manhunt2 its got Drawn Shaded Graphics, i have seen Far Worse on DVD Films with all the Gory Horror Films Out there with Life Like Limbs being Severed, with Blood Gushing Everywhere, So this Game & Manhunt 1 are Nothing Compared to that!!!!!

This Game is given 18 for a Reason, because Kiddies & Children are UNDER 18, and So should not be Playing these Games Full Stop, So if they get hold of them, THE BLOODY PARENTS are to BLAME for Letting them & If the Kiddies Download them on Torrent Sites, then again the BLOODY PARENTS should be watching what there Kiddies are doing on there Computers Anyway, as Piracy is Against the Law, and they could get Arrested, and put away in Prison, the Parents that is LOL.....:o)

I agree with you, yet at the same time, I disagree with you. I agree that most horror flicks are gorier than so called "violent games", yet I disagree with how you said that those "violent games" should be kept out of the hands of children. The fact is, they're just games. It's not like you're killing people in real life. Releiving stress by playing Manhunt 2 is a lot better than releiving stress by going postal on your coworkers, as noones actually getting hurt. Get a grip.

 » To Everyone...

Listen. I don't think you all realize the big picture here. This isn't about parents OR kids. This is about the ESRB. Believe it or not folks, the rating system IS A SHAM. You could go up to anyone on the street - anyone in a shop, any parent, any man or woman, ANYWHERE in this blessed country and ask them, if they TRULY, UNDOUBTEDLY, AND COMPLETELY THINK that there is any different between the mental state between a 17 year old and an 18 year old. The answer folks, (like you had to guess) is a big fat NO.

What does this mean? It means - "M" rated games are complete utter BS. We need to make more people realize that the M rating needs to be completely taken out of the rating system. That way we can draw a CLEAR, THICK LINE between what is for TEENS and what is for ADULTS. You gotta be 18 to buy cigarettes, right? 21 to buy alcohol? What about Pornography? What about strip clubs? Everything that we want to keep out of the hands of children we do by setting an age limit. Either 18, or higher. Then, the content is so CONVENIENTLY PLACED OUT OF THE REACH of children. So that if you are *gasp* - I hope you're sitting down for this one - UNDERAGE you just can't buy it. Video games should be absolutely NO exception.

If the M rating was gone, and AO was the rating for Mature content-filled games, then this issue wouldn't exist. Manhunt 2 would be out in July, and everyone would just go on their merry little way.

Someone needs to start a petition or a website or something... ban the M rating!!! ESRB is wrong! AO forever.

 » ESBR

Typical how we adults get a raw deal when it comes to computer games, Unfortunately we are also targeted when some stupid idiot goes and shoots up his school.

Banning this game is and insult to be honest, this kind of censorship is not wanted.

Id like to see them ban a movie with the same content, but again its not going to happen.

Problem is, A games machine, whether its a PSP or a PC, will always be associated with children, even though the vast majority or players are aged above 18,

I still find it convenient how, ESBR do not have a contact button on their website.

Anyone know a place on line to start a online partition?

What i don't get is, this game is rated Adult Only, surly that should mean something to the parents who go out and purchase these types of games? just like a Rated 18 porn film, i cant see one parent running out to get there kid, the latest edition of Debbie does Dallas. so what the hell are they thinking when they go into a shop and get a AO rated game?

Some people need to take their head out of there arse.

How about taking your own advice,

Also, how about sticking with the article instead of tying to incite a flame war.

It was a bit hypocritical of your self, and just like buying your child a rated AO game, you chose to read the comments. or you don't.

Yet all you have done is come on here and express your view on a small majority of posters and in the process, show that you are no better then them.

Unfortunate you are correct with some of the comments, but really now, you can always just scroll past them..

As for EBRS and the ratings, who cares, if your an Adult, find some way to voice your opinion on the matter and get it into the lime light.

   by NIMF (Unregistered) - 2007-06-23
 » Manhunt2

I have just sent a message to NIMF and it reads like this.

As you well know, manhunt2 is a very violent game and has just received a rating of AO (Adult only) and banned for sale in the UK.

being a 29 year old, i have to say i have seen worse things on TV and in the news than I've ever seen on a PC / computer screen.

I think by shouting about it on your main website you your selves are drawing attention to the game On your own website On the front page. This is inadvertent advertising and could be taken out of context by some children, should they ever visit your site.

If you are truly out to make children and parents more safe, how about Asking the ESBR to drop the M rating on Video games, and start rating them like movies, this would give a clear indication as to what age group the games expected Audience is.

Ask 100 people the same question today, "if they think that a 18 year old is more mature than a 17 year old?" i would calculate that a good 98% would say No.

So please instead of thinking that a AO rating for a game is a victory for parents and children, how about educating parents to stop and think before they buy, and to test the games their children want.

Or do people like me, who are mature enough to know that Manhunt2 is not for children have to suffer censorship because of someones lack of parental skills and child responsibility?
