The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi - Image 1

Here's yet another reason for video game otaku to go crazy: Namco Bandai is developing a game based on the cult anime series Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu (known to us English speakers as the Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi).

And what do you know, it's for the PlayStation Portable! And no, before you ask, it's not going to be a dancing game, but an adventure one. For the uninitiated, The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi revolves around an ordinary high-school teenager that everyone calls by his nickname Kyon.

Kyon's actually quite the unremarkable person: he doesn't have special powers, no severe childhood issues, and his hairstyle certainly doesn't have any of the spikes or lifts we see with the common anime protagonist.

The people around him however, specifically the club he's forced to join, do have special powers. And the series is about his daily struggle to cope with all of them, most of all with Suzumiya Haruhi herself. Besides being an adventure game for the PSP, there's not much else info about the upcoming Namco Bandai title.

Hopefully, more will be revealed come the game's official website opening on July 10. Until then, keep it locked here for any and all developments for this yet-to-be-named title.

anything haruhi is always great, but 3d haruhi will just be plain weird

a tactical rpg - now that'd be cool. except yuki would just tear everything up with some quick lip work

I think anything Haruhi is great although I have a horrible feeling this is going to be one of those games which are released with disney films where you walk around collecting objects to reach the end of the level. I hope there is some more skill in it and is fun to play.

I see jackasses love to post anywhere. Anyway... I can't see a game based off of an anime (that was based off light novels) but itd be interesting to check out I suppose. I'm no big anime fan but I do love the series... Mainly for Yuki Nagato...

 » Adventure game

Given the usual nature of anime-based adventure games in Japan, this game will likely consist of the player taking Kyon's role and "living through" various stories from the series in a multipath adventure. Probably there will be various endings with each of the girls, and various alternate routes to complete the stories besides the "canon" route that follows the series events perfectly.

 » Hmm...

Hope that it would be like a "Choose Your Own Adventure" type of adventure game... ^_^

 » Haruhi non-canon

That's probably going to be it. The developers will set the storyline the way it happened in the anime. It will most likely feature love sim like paths for either Kyon (boy's story) or Haruhi (Girl/God story). Then on the side, it would consit of mini games that are non canon such as "The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina" where she has all the power and abilties of her hero alter ego and works herself up to face the big bad Yuki the Space Witch. Some other sides might even feature renditions of DDR (By that I mean the hare hare yukai game) and puzzles and quizzes (Which would be done in the school classroom) AND SURE AS HELL THEY'LL FEATURE The Day of Sagittarius 3 Game made by the computer club.

All that said...if they brought it overseas into english, I'd buy a copy(AND I DON'T EVEN OWN A PSP) But if it remains in Japan I wouldn't ebay or amazon it...I would for lucky star and Haru game...but not just one.

 » Love Hina

I came across the anime by accident last year and loved it. Another gameplay option could be a dating sim, like the -hilarious- Love Hina GBA game
